Kannamma's POV!

Today is monday again☹️! Ufff!! I hate it! Okay! Coming to my brother's marriage!

In our tamil culture, Marriage is not a word but an emotion. Marriages are held like a grand festival in India according to their customs and traditions. It is said to be the most sacred bond is between the husband and wife relationship.

Speaking about marriage festival, there will be 3 functions will happen before wedding according to our customs.

Number 1 is 'POO VAITHAL' which is almost like pre engagement function. This is to announce officially that they were going to get engaged and married. In that day, groom's family will go to bride's home to give her flowers(jasmine). Till then, bride didn't put any flower in her hair. And they'll fix date for engagement and marriage. There will be close relatives only will come for this function

Number 2 is 'PATTU KATTUTHAL OR ENGAGEMENT'. In this day, groom's family again will go to bride's home with a saree for the bride. This function starts after giving the saree for the bride. Bride will drape the saree which groom's family gave and they'll exchange rings. This will be little grand than previous one. Many people will come for this function.

Number 3 is 'THIRUMANGALYAM PONN URUKKUTHAL'. It is to melt gold for Mangalyam or sacred thread. It will be held in groom's home. Only bride's family members and close relative will come without bride. This is simple function but said to be more sacred.

Then marriage! Of course, it is the most grand festival!!

Yesterday, we decided that first function 'poo vaithal' or pre engagement function will going to be held on coming friday.

Our parents already discussed about the dates of other functions with astrologer. Engagement will be in 10 days after that function, 'thirumangalyam ponn urukuthal function' will be held just before 3 days of marriage and wedding will be in 1 and half month. Not so much time ryt!? But this is because of their stars in horoscope that we should done their wedding within 2 months.

And that WhatsApp group is still silent. No one is dare to talk in that. May be my anna and anni started their personal chat as they want privacy. And speaking about maya, she had loads of assignments. She was hell busy with it for the past two days. So only she didn't use her mobile. And I don't have any clues about the rest two.

I'm now in my workplace sitting in my seat attending the calls. Someone placed the coffee in my table, I lifted my head, that's Jo.

"What kanns? Looking like you are in deep thoughts!! What's the matter?" She asked. I smiled with a nod.

"My anna is going to get married!" I grinned.

"Wow that's great! But you didn't even inform me before!" She said with a pout. I chuckled.

"I thought to tell you after confirming the good news. We went to her home past friday! And Saturday they fixed dates.." I said. She smiled with a curious look.

"Tell me with details! What's her name... How she looks... When is there engagement and all??" She asked me curiously with a wide grin.

"Hmm.. Her name is Ilakya.. Working in kindergarten as teacher.. And she looks absolutely gorgeous! My anna and she had private talk for 15 minutes.. Then they agreed with a blush😊. They look cute together. She also became frnd with me in few minutes. Their 'Poo vaithal' function is on coming friday and engagement is in 10 days after that function. And marriage will be in 1 and half months." I said.

I also shared her about maya and Kavin's meeting which maya told me, and our accidental accident meeting that day except the antics part of my heart🤫 and finally about the scam call idiot part too.

She literally laughed at each and every sentence..

"Seriously kanns! Vidhi un vaalkaila thaarumaara vilayaduthu pola😂🤣 Athepdi suthi suthi antha Kavin kitaye poi sikkura! Enaku ennamo ithu ithoda mudiyum nu thonala!😂 Kadavul etho perusa plan panraru unna vachu.. Be careful!😂🤣"

She said while laughing. I had no choice than pouting with a sad face.

The day went good in office till now. The time is half past 4. My phne pinged with some notification. I checked. That was from 'MUGHILAKYA' group and the one who texted is Idiot?? Oh.. Kavin 😁

I opened the msg immediately. My heart beats fastened seeing his msg in my mobile.

Idiot : Ting.. Ting.. Ting...📢 maapillai veetaarin kanivaana gavaniththirku! Mughilakyavin poo vaikum vizha varum vellikilamai andru ingu engal veetil nadaipera ullathu... Aagave Pen veetin saarbaga anaivaraiyum varuga varuga endru anbodu alaikindren! Nandri!!

He is really a idiot! Who else texted like this in group? I smiled at his message and also thinking whether to reply or not.

"What kanns! You are laughing like a idiot! That too seeing your phne! Tell me.. Who's that guy?" Jo asked me curiously. I saw her widening my eyes because of her sudden question.

"No.. No one.. Jo.. It's just a message in group!" I stammered. She saw me suspiciously.

"Mughilakya group ryt?" She asked. I nodded without any choice.

"From whom??" She thought while playing her index finger in her chin like a cute child.

"Kavin ryt?" She said with a bright 1000 watts bulb like face. I nodded with a chuckle. I saw her the msg. She too chuckled seeing that.

"So you are going to take leave coming friday!☹️" She said with a pout.

"Don't worry Jo! Just one day na... And you should come to my brother's engagement with Surya and your daughter.. Okay? Actually I thought to invite you by my mom after fixing the date officially on Friday. But I can't wait till then.. That's why I spilled this now itself." I said excitedly. She nodded smilingly.

Then again msg popped in that group.

Kathir: Na varamudiyuma nu therila da!☹️ Antha manager paithiyakaaran leave thara maatan... Ana mudinja alavu try panni paakren..😅 Ama ne yen da samanthame illama maapillai veetaiye invite panra🙄..

I saw Jo seat which is empty now. She came from Surya's cabin with a smile.

"What kanns!? Didn't you going to leave?" She asked.

"Yeah! Already Jo! See you!" I said with a smile. She nodded and left after taking her purse and handbag.

I put my mobile in my purse and quickly made my way to my home.

I started my scooty and reached my home. My mom is doing something with her mobile with a annoyed face. Mughil anna went to our coffee shop as appa asked some help from him. Maya is busy in writing her assignments.

"Enna ma! Romba nerama.. Antha dabba phne ah potu urutitu iruka?? Enna aachu?"

I asked my mom which she threw a deadly glare at me.

"En phne thannila vilundhu display poiduchu d athan paathutu iruken... Kayal anni ku vera call pannanum.. Un phne la konjam call panni thariya?"

(My mobile slipped in water and the display is repaired.. That's why I'm checking it.. And I have to call Kayal anni(sister in law)... Could you call her in your mobile?)

She asked me.

"No mom.. I don't have her number.."

I said.

"Then did you have Kavin or Ilakya's number?"

She asked me.

"Yeah! I have both." I said without thinking twice.

"Then call any of them!" She said.

I called Ilakya praying all gods that she should pick up the call. Because if she didn't, then I have to call Kavin. If he hear my voice... Then there are so much possibilities that he'll found out about my scam call.

Damn!!! Her mobile is switched off!!

I saw my mom. My mom saw me questioningly.

"Ma! Ilakya's mobile is switched off!" I said.

"Then call Kavin!" She said casually with a shrug.

"Ma... That... How can I...." I stammered.

"What!? What's the problem in it?" She asked me confused and frowned.

"Ma... Why can't you call them after appa came?" I asked.

"Why?" She said bluntly.

"That..." I tried to search apt lies for this situation. But my mom cut me off.

"For God's sake! That's not your in-laws home! That's your brother's in-laws home! So you don't have to be this much nervous while calling them! Cut your craps and do what I say! Call him!" She ordered me.

Sighing deeply. I called him wishing he shouldn't pick the call. But he picked it in 3rd ring.

"Hello" He said. My amma saw me curiously.

"Hello Kannamma??" He again asked because of my silence.

Voahhh! My name is damn good when he calls!!

Kannamma control! Don't flatter yourself! Be conscious.. He is your anni's brother!! Don't let your heart do anything in his matters!!!

"Hellooooo... Hellallallooo...." He said again and again cutely..

I quickly give it to my mom without saying anything. She talked with him. Then about after 20 mins, she gave it to me saying that Kayal aunty wants to talk with me.

"Hello kannamma! How are you da?" She asked me.

"Fine ma.. And how about you ma? Did you eat regularly without skipping your food?" I asked her remembering our first meet.

"Yes da! I'm really fine! Did you ask leave for friday in your office? Is everything okay?" She asked me.

"No ma.. I didn't apply for leave yet... I'll surely get leave on Friday. Don't worry!" I said sweetly.

"And kannamma.. I need you in every shopping for wedding and engagement okay?? Make sure of it." She said sweetly.

"Sure ma.." I said. I heard a whistle sound on other side.

"Uffoo.. Kannu.. Wait da.. I forget to turn off the cooker in which I prepared dhal for chappati for dinner.. I'll turn off it and will come.. Till then you talk with Kavin.. Kavin!! Talk with kannamma till I came okay? Here take!" She said in a go without giving me a chance to talk.

"Hello..." He said slowly.

"Hel... Hello" I tried to sound different. My mom saw me weirdly. I coughed like my voice is damaged..

"Thank god! You speak.. I thought you are avoiding me!" He said cheerfully.

Avoiding him! Why should I!

I mean I have reasons to avoid him but why he thinks that I avoided him!?

"Uhmm! No.. Not like that.. Why should I? My throat is not clear... That's why..." I tried to sound different going to my room leaving my mom in hall.

"Oh!! Did you do something to cure that?" He asked concerned.

"Uhmm... No" I said.

"Hey.. Don't be careless.. It's not good to leave that.. And moreover your voice is very important for your job ryt? Try pepper and turmeric with milk or dried ginger coffee like that!" He said concerned.

"Uhmm.. Yeah.. Okay!" I said.

"And I want to thank you!" He said.

Why! For messing with him before!?

"Why?" I asked curiously.

"For saving my mom that day! She is my life... You saved my life Kannamma! You can ask me anything you want as requital!" He said. I frowned.

"Sorry.. But I didn't do that for requitals! In fact, she is also my mom. So I don't need your requitals for saving my mom!" I said frowning.

"Hey cool! I just asked.. I don't how to thank you for your kindness.. So only I said like that.. Sorry if I hurt your feelings..." Saying this he mumbled something under his breath which I couldn't hear.

"It's ok.. I too just overreacted! Sorry!" I said. She let out a relieving sigh.

"Kavin!! Pooja wants to speak to you! She is in call in my mobile." Kayal aunty said to him which I could hear.

"Okay mom... Talk with her then!" Saying this he gave this to kayal aunty and left, I guess.

"Hello kannamma!" She said.

"Haann.. What happened ma?" I asked to know who is that pooja🙄!

"Athuva.. Kavin ku avan aththa ponnu pooja call panirka.. Athan avana pesa sonnen! Rendu perum romba close! Pooja vum nalla ponnu... Kavin ku call panna pola.. Busy vanthathunaala en number ku pannuna!"

(Oh that.. Pooja, his cousin called him.. That's why I asked him to talk to her! They two were so close! And Pooja is also a good girl.. She called kavin.. But the call went busy.. So she called me to talk to him!)

She said excitedly! My face fell at her words.. His cousin? Pooja?? So close??😑

Then she chitchatted for sometime but my mind is absent at her words. It is only wandering around the first words she said! Pooja! They were so close!

Arghhh!! Why is this much disturbing me..

I ate my dinner absentmindedly and went to bed.

"Kannu! What are you thinking deeply" Maya asked me.

"Nothing.. That.. Today I talked with Kavin through phne call!" I said. She saw me with wide eyes. I chuckled and told the whole scene.

"Do you think he forgot your voice?" She asked me thinking deeply.

"I don't have any idea about that!" I said with a shrug.

"Hmmm.. Leave it kanns.. Good night!" She said with a yawn. I too said her good night lying down on my bed. But sleep is far away from me.

What if Pooja is his love?

What if they were committed a long ago?

How the hell it concerns me!?

Why it is affecting me?

What's wrong with me?????

With these questions, I slept after lot of tossing and turning.
