[daggers - part two]
[3rd]

She stared at the bare room, thoughts flooding into her head.

She never thought she would step foot in Grimmauld Place 12 again. Never did she think the day would come when it became headquarters of the Order of the Phoenix, when the Black Family were known supporters of Voldemort. But since Walburga Black died, Sirius had inherited the house, being the eldest Black, and he had immediately volunteered the house, which had heavy protection, to the Order when Dumbledore asked for a headquarters.

She had no quarrel with Sirius Black. In her opinion he wasn't a bad person. He was outspoken and loyal to his cause and his friends. Regulus had told her once that he was a good brother to Regulus once- until he had called James his brother in front of his own brother accidentally. But for some reason, he seemed to hate her. He had caused her first panic attack, and he had taunted and teased her countless times. The only person he seemed to hate more than her was Severus Snape.

But when Dumbledore got hold of a prophecy stating a child born at the end of July would vanquish the Dark Lord and Lily's child was possibly said child, when Lily made her move out so she wouldn't be put in danger, Sirius immediately insisted her stay in Grimmauld Place and had even given her a room. She couldn't comprehend his actions- did he hate her, or not?

Her problem, however, wasn't with the room. It was with the memories this room was associated with. She remembered the only time she had visited this place. She never realized until later how blissful and full of happiness those times were, and she longed for those times now, those carefree, innocent times.

She left her room, and walked down the corridor. Sirius rarely came over, as "it was too full of memories", so she often only had the house elf, Kreacher, for company. At first Kreacher had disliked her, but after she mentioned her name his attitude changed completely and told her that 'Master Regulus' often spoke highly of her. Since then Kreacher had been nothing but loyal towards her, and was as good as a friend as Regulus had once described.

She reached the end of the corridor, and came across two doors.

One was labeled 'Sirius Orion Black', and she knew this was Sirius' room. She dared not enter, respecting his privacy.

The other was labeled with his name. She stared at the nameplate on the door.

Do Not Enter
Without the Express Permission of
Regulus Arcturus Black

She hesitated, but ultimately pushed the door open, ignoring the sign and the voice at the back of her head nagging at her not to do it.

It had changed so much since she had last walked into this room. Last time, it had been the room of the real him, with photos of his family and friends hanging on the pale green walls, books lining the polished wooden shelves along one wall. Now, it was painted a dark green, with black curtains, and black sashes hanging from the ceiling. It gave an eerie, dark vibe, and she shivered.

She had always known about the pressure the young Black carried, what with being the golden child, forced into evil because his parents were too cowardly to do so. She just wished there was something- something she could do for him. She would give her own life to ensure he would stay alive until the end of the war. He would live to see the tomorrow she would definitely not survive to see.

She wished she could be by his side then. She was well aware of the dangers lurking within the ranks of Death Eaters, and she worried so much about him. She loved him, so much, and as much as it broke her, she still loved, she still loved and cared about him, and her now daily panic attacks only consisted of nightmares of the two. He had taught her true love- to love another unconditionally, the first time she had known love itself, and now without him she still placed all her trust and care in him, still loved him with all her heart. Nothing could ever change that.

On the shelves, instead of photos, a death eater mask was placed on the otherwise bare surface. On the wall, a bulletin board with all sorts of news about the wizarding war and Volemort hung. A locked golden box lay beside the stack of books in the lower compartment of the shelf, but funnily, the keyhole was a straight, smooth narrow rectangle, and the inside was visible, the keyhole becoming narrower and narrower until the two sides touched to form a rather sharp tip. It almost looked like a sheath for a dagger.

An idea suddenly struck her. She pulled out the delicate dagger she had been given before her parents abandoned her, the identical twin of the knife she had given him. There was no way- absolutely no way- that it would work. But she slid the dagger in the hole anyway.

To her surprise, it fit almost perfectly. There was a click, and the box opened.

"So you had the key all along," a voice behind her said. "Why did I not guess?"

She didn't have to turn around to know the voice. "Sirius," she said. She turned to look at the older brother of the boy she loved, to see him glancing at the room decorations, then back at her. "When I left this place, it didn't look like this. He must have redecorated it while I was gone, I haven't had the nerve to go into his room." His tone sounded nonchalant, but she was a girl who had dealed with all sorts of pain in the past. She could identify emotion from a casual voice easily.

    "You miss him, don't you?"

That caught him by surprise, and by the way he stiffened up, she knew she had hit the correct spot. She continued. "You left him here to bear the responsibilities of two children alone. You never knew which side he wanted to stand for, but you left him with no choice."

Sirius hadn't moved. She looked into his eyes, almost identical to Regulus', yet there was something- something missing. Seeing how similar he looked to his brother almost drove her to tears, and she sorely wished it was Regulus standing in front of her, but she knew he would never come back to her, no matter how much she cried and pleaded and begged, and she wanted so badly to just break down, but she resisted. "But he loved you and he let you go, and he gave up his freedom and innocence so you could go free, he carried out his duties so you could be free to do what you wanted. He's done so much for you, could you please, please do your part as an elder brother? Could you support and love him when he needed it?"

There was a long silence, and she saw how sad Sirius' eyes were. She was beginning to think she was too harsh to him, when Sirius spoke. "Is he with- you know, You Know Who now?" His voice was soft, unlike all the other times he had talked to her.

She only nodded. "Why didn't you stop him? Heaven knows you were the only one who could." Sirius sounded desperate, the anger in his voice evident. "If you tried- if you bloody tried- maybe he would be standing here now."

At this, she fell silent, and closed her eyes. Tears threatened to well out of her eyes, as she struggled to recollect herself. He was everything to her, and nothing would ever change that. But love broke her, and shattered her, and she put all her energy into her love, for her friends, for the Order and everything they fought for, for him. Sirius' anger broke the bandage she had hastily tried to put over the hole in her heart, and all the memories, once sweet and pure and innocent, now spilled out of her with pain and anguish and she was broken, everything in her spilling out, she couldn't function. In her mind words keep replaying, things he had said to her, once kind and sweet, now bitter.

I'll always stay by your side.

    I won't leave you alone.

    I love you.

And she now felt like her world was gone, that his promises which once made up her entire world, were broken, collapsed on her, weighing her down. "I-" she started quietly, "I couldn't ever do that. It's his life, and although I would rather have a lifetime of the worse nightmares than lose him, I could never convince him, he is too loyal and stubborn and too good, too good for me, all along he was too good for me-" her voice got stuck in her throat.

She regained some of her composure, and continued. "I care about your brother, more than anything, anything in my life- he is my life, and not a day passes that I don't miss him and regret what I said to him-" she broke off, before her voice broke. She collapsed on the floor and broke down, memories of him comforting her and helping her in her mind, and bitter thoughts plagued her, that he would be longer be there.

    She was all alone.

    "I'm sorry."

"What?" She was caught off guard.

    "I'm sorry," he repeated.

She frowned. "Wait- did you just apologize to me-"

He cut her off. "Yes, I did, and for good reason. I shouldn't have teased and bullied you so much in school, I was jealous because you were close with both my brother and my best mate, and that's why I offered to give you a room here, because I wanted to apologize, and I shouldn't have been harsh with you. I'm sorry." She was sincerity in his eyes, and kindness, as he offered her a tissue. She accepted.

She was taken aback by this. Sirius Black never apologized- not to anyone. Sirius suddenly bent down and hugged her. She hugged back, and when they pulled away she felt so much reassured.

She quickly regained her posture and smiled faintly, though it did not quite touch her eyes. "Friends, then?" This was the end of her rivalry with Sirius. They were on the same side now.

    Sirius smirked. "No, sister-in-law."

    "Wait, whattttt?"
