The pool is perfectly round

Reflecting the stars above

And I know what I must do

Though I do not want to.

And I sit beside the pool,

Looking into its depths.

Though the stars are the same

All else shifts in the water.

A beautiful elf 

Stands where I sit

Her long brown hair

Braided down her back

And other things too

Shift and change

Where now are bushes

There stand trees

-

And the stars are brighter

The forest lighter

The wilds wilder

The wolves are kind

-

And here I sit

Till I have decided

And I slowly

Walk into the water.

-

It is deep.

Deeper then me. 

And as soon as my head is under

The world shifts.

-

And now I am here

Looking out.

Looking into a world

That looks colorless.

-

And in the pool, I see myself.

Or, what I had been.

Someone who has lost all hope 

Is sitting there
