Sometimes words can hold power beyond our wildest imaginations. Sometimes what one person sees as a fantasy, can be perceived by another as a nightmare. What one person sees as nothing, can mean the world to someone else. Just as the old saying goes: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Words can be joined together to form art. Poetry, books, songs, all these things are made up of these letters that we as humans put together, deeming that they named objects in our world. These art forms can be appreciated as beautiful, or torn down and scoffed on. Really, it all depends on who sees it.

Such is so that when a young boy at the age of seven found the collection of words listed below, he took an immediate liking to them.

Poker for the Dead
Fate and Destiny placed their bets,
A cruel game of bidding.
Fate barred her teeth with gleaming eyes,
Destiny gave up on winning.

Destiny folded aces and spades,
And then she said "You win again, I guess."
Fate sniggered and cried "I'm satisfied!"
She decided they didn't deserve pity.

For the price that they gambled wasn't a dollar amount,
But the life of many mortals.
Fate lit her fire and then attacked,
She didn't hold anything back.

She took a boy's life while he was still living,
A Fate that's worse than death.
She chuckled and sighed as the poor boy died,
Down to his very last breath.

It wasn't until his eleventh birthday, however, that the boy understood what this poem meant. Connected to what it meant. He would often ponder these words as he went about his day. They would circle round and round his head, like little voices whispering in his brain.

As the words began to take more meaning, they also began to hold more value. As it is, whenever you first hear a word, it has no value. You don't know its meaning therefore it's just a bunch of letters. However, once you realize it's meaning it holds value. So is the same of the poem.

We, as the human race, are often put between two extremes. A rock and a hard place per se. But how does one choose between two losses? Naturally, man chooses the one that is the lesser to preserve himself. However, say your two extremes are the hot versus cold. When left in one or the other for too long, man's senses begin to overload, and they will begin to make rash decisions. This makes the lesser situation much harder to see so therefore man will simply go for the easier one even if it's not always the best. This is why, when left helpless, no one human could possibly survive either a rock or a hard place, and both choices would end with the same result.

This child was tested with his own extremes, and just like any other member of the human race, couldn't think clearly, resulting in the words above holding even more meaning than before. Little did he know that the words he muttered to herself for years upon years, would end up holding more significance to someone else than to himself.
