Junko: Toad punned title? Really?

Monika: Life was about as normal as it could be for a girl in middle school. For Anne Boonchuy, this meant helping her loving parents with their restaurant, surviving middle school drama, and hanging out with her two childhood best friends, Sasha and Marcy. However, on her thirteenth birthday, after being convinced by Sasha to skip class to hang out, Anne was coerced by both her and Marcy to steal a peculiar music box from a thrift store. This event would forever change the lives of Anne and her friends because, as soon as they opened it, the three girls were sucked into a new world, Amphibia. A world full of... Well, anthropomorphic amphibians and various other creatures. After surviving on her own for a while, Anne met a young frog from Wartwood named Sprig, who was happy to meet her despite everyone else's concern about an unknown being arriving in their town. After fighting off a wild giant mantis, Anne would find her adoptive residence in Wartwood with Sprig's family including his grandfather Hopediah AKA Hop Pop, and his little sister Polly, as a new-found family

Junko: Gotta love the found family trope.

Monika: From this small town, Anne would begin a long quest to find her friends as well as a way back home. A quest that would unveil several moments of self-discovery for Anne and everyone involved, uncover the long-lost history of Amphibia, and ultimately, help determine the fate of both Amphibia and her own world. Eventually, after several adventures, and self-caused misadventures, throughout all of Amphibia, Anne would find her friends. But it would take more than a simple reunion for the trio to get back together.

Junko: But luckily Anne was tough enough to pull it off.

Monika: She's strong enough to beat Sasha, who one-shotted a Lava Golem. She's also strong enough to slice Frobots, which can lift buildings with ease, and a large group of them was enough to push the moon.

Junko: She survived a blow from Frobo that Peter Griffen'd her. She's even more durable than Sprig, who survived being Yamcha'd in this same scene!

Monika: She's fast enough to dodge arrows and outpace a missile explosion. She can keep up with Frobo and Frobots, all of whom can travel to the moon in a short period of time.

Junko: Yeah, you'd be surprised of all that she can do to survive.

Monika: She's an expert swordsman, capable of holding her own against Sasha in a sword fight, a person who actively trains her skills throughout the series when given the opportunity, and was even capable of outmaneuvering Sasha and turning her cape against her after Anne was disarmed.

Junko: And this is why I always say no capes. She's also skilled in Muay Thai, a form of traditional Thai martial arts. It's referred to as "The Art of Eight Limbs", as it uses eight points of contact, punches, kicks, elbows, and knee strikes. Focusing on stand-up striking alongside clinching techniques. Anne's exact mastery is unknown, but it's at least enough so that she can actively teach without much issue. She first stumbled upon this martial art after her mom enrolled her in a class after realizing, in Anne's words, how "high-spirited" she was. As a side note, apparently Amphibia has its version of Muay Thai that's the exact same for some reason.

Monika: It was still one thing that helped her survive Amphibia.

Junko: The Amphibian world is much more dangerous than our world, with most of its living organisms out to have you for dinner or worse, all on a continent about the size of Australia... very fitting, don't you think?

Monika: Anne is a foreign survivor of this wild world, be it by her own ingenuity, strength, and compassion. But that can only get her so far since a major reason for her survival is thanks to the Plantars and Wartwood. Though she did survive for a week or two before the beginning of the series by herself, so that's something to acknowledge.

Junko: Still, Anne would eventually learn the rules and trappings of Amphibia's ecosystem pretty well, going along with her change of attitude into a more mature and patient person. She even survived one of, if not the most dangerous eras in Amphibian history, involving a universe-crossing war between the resistance of Amphibia's people and the Core's robotic army. She went on to win numerous battles and complete numerous successful missions, being one of the most vital players in the war.

Monika: This did wonders on her stamina too.

Monika: Despite admitting that she's not exactly in shape once or twice, Anne actually has a lot more endurance than you may suspect. She's been able to battle for long periods of time, and once stayed up for well over a day straight, possibly more, doing both research on multiverse theory as well as fighting a giant robot with no sign of severe exhaustion throughout that period, only little bits of snoozing here or there.

Junko: She's got a bunch of things to help her too. Gathering all of her items in her book bag.

Junko: This trusty little thing behaves like any woman's purse. A bag that holds an impossible amount of items for its size. Headphones, magazines, an entire wardrobe's worth of outfits... with that much stuff she could easily use that thing as a bludgeoning weapon if she wanted.

Monika: But her main weapon is her Tennis Racket.

Monika: Throughout a good number of her days in Amphibia, Anne used her trademark pink tennis racket as her go-to weapon to fight off her opposition. She can whack someone over the head with it or use it to deflect minor projectiles. Other than that, it doesn't have any unique qualities.

Junko: Get ready for a trend with that. She has other items too. A phone with a camera that can flash at others, Beetle Jerky that has healing properties, and a Bath Bomb that makes for a very, VERY, soapy grenade. But nothing too much combat-wise.

Monika: Unless we're talking about her scythe.

Junko: A big ol' monster mantis's arm strapped to a large stick making a makeshift scythe, its sharpness is perfect to reap what you sow. But to be frank, it doesn't seem like Anne knows how to handle it the best. S

Monika: Still she has her Toad Swords. Both of which she would lose before switching over to Tritonio's Family Sword.

Monika: After Anne went through tough training with Tritonio, she was given his family sword. There isn't really anything special about it aside from it glowing blue, but it's definitely more efficient than her Toad swords, represented by how Anne took it over her other sword options into the final battle in Los Angeles.

Junko: Why am I not surprised the final battle was in Los Angeles?

Monika: I think you're thinking of Las Vegas. Regardless, she has a toy lightsaber.

Monika: A light-up toy from a local SpendCo store that Anne's dad purchased before giving it to her. While it is a pretty silly weapon to use in concept, it makes for really good playfights. With it, Anne was able to easily wipe out an entire group of FBI agents armed with shock batons.

Junko: Doing things Rouge One Darth Vader style! And she doesn't even like the prequels! And for extra protection, she has her very own chest plate!

Junko: There's nothing special about it but it does add extra protection, which is good. Plus it helps ignore the fact that she's been wearing the same clothes since she got to this world. Strange how cartoons do that huh?

Monika: Um Junko, how long have you worn that outfit?

Junko: Please, I have a bunch of clothes that look the same.

Monika: Yet you still need a bigger skirt...

Junko: Speaking of bigger skirts, she's got herself a flamethrower!

Monika: What does that have to do with- You know what... never mind.

Junko takes out the flamethrower.

Junko: Wait, isn't this just a bug?

Monika: It's a fire-breathing bug Anne got her hands on during the Halloween special, she can use it as a flame-

The bug breathed fire and burned Monika to ash before she glitched back into existence and took it.

Monika: Why do I let you hold this stuff?

Junko: Well she's already got herself a pet in Domino 2!

Monika: An alpha female Coastal kill-a-moth Anne took under her care when she was just a kill-a-pillar. Domino 2 was Anne's air support during the final battles and has shown to be quite useful for quick aerial maneuvering alongside her ex-owner. Her sharp teeth, claws, and mighty roar also make her prime material for a leader of her pack.

Junko: She does have other techniques too, like her Plantar Family Hunting Dance.

Monika: The Plantar Family Hunting Dance is a traditional, ritualistic dance invented by Leif and has been used by her descendants since then. This dance mesmerizes any creature that watches, putting them into a hypnotic state that makes them obedient to the performer. The Plantar family have used this dance to distract the prey and lure them in. Strangely enough, when first showcased by Leif, the dance seemed to have an effect on even more sophisticated and intelligent people in the form of Barrel the toad, so it's possible that it works beyond random animals.

Junko: Hah! Just imagine getting mind haxed by a random girl doing goofy ass dances!

Monika: Still, her most powerful tools are the Calamity Gems.

Monika: The Calamity Gems are ancient stones that wield absurd power, created ten thousand years ago by the 3-Gem Guardian. When used with the Calamity box, it allows her to travel to entirely different universes. Additionally, when Anne and the gang were transported into Amphibia, the gems' power lay within them, thus allowing Anne to use a portion of one gem to tap into her Super form.

Monika: This form, semi-officially dubbed Super Anne, grants Anne massively enhanced physicality, alongside high-speed flight and being fast enough to dash around faster-than-eyesight and see her enemies in slow motion.

Junko: With her super form, her hits can create large shockwaves which can flip over cars. They also produce a lightning-like energy which can damage the surrounding area. She can coat objects in blue energy to enhance said object's strength and fling it around with telekinesis as well as project area-of-effect energy blasts at will.

Monika: And in order to defeat the Core after it took over the entire moon, she tapped into her gem's full power to reach even greater heights.

Monika: This form is massively above Anne's previous super form in terms of strength and speed, along with enhancing all of her previous gem-related powers.

Junko: Her telekinesis goes from flinging her sword around to being able to send Sasha and Marcy from the middle of space to the Earth in seconds, even creating a forcefield around them! Now she can fly and breathe in the vacuum of space and even make giant energy constructs! Like when she was able to make a ginormous blue tennis racket that can fling around a massive cat ball, which exploded on impact with enemies! Yep... that was a sentence.

Monika: She likely can do more as well, as Sasha with the powers could make large wings to enhance her flight speed and giant pom-pom balls around her hands that acted like boxing gloves as well as being able to create phoenix-shaped explosions. Marcy was also able to make a DnD-styled die, which could bounce between enemies and eventually create another massive explosion.

Junko: What's with these chicks and blowing shit up?

Monika: Junko, you have no right to talk.

Junko: Still, that wasn't enough to beat the Core, so Anne used all three gems. Since the gem's powers multiply when used in tandem, classic synergy buff, this granted her an even more powerful transformation!

Junko: Holy shit that's bright!

Monika: By calling upon the combined power of all three gems at once, Anne can achieve a glowing white form of ridiculous strength. With a simple all-out blast, she was able to annihilate the Core and obliterate the moon it was controlling in the process.

Junko: But power comes at a cost as using all three gems at once is extremely taxing on the human body. After the form exerts all its energy, Anne will crumble to dust and die. Furthermore, the gems will shatter as a result of using all of their power, so if Anne doesn't kill her target in time, she'll either die or be left powerless... but mostly die... until she lives too! Saved by the 3-Gem Guardian!

Monika: Upon her death due to full usage of the Calamity Gems, Anne awoke in a strange realm. In it, she would meet the 3-Gem Guardian, the protector of the entire multiverse and creator of the Calamity Gems, who just so happened to look like her cat Domino at the time.

Junko: Try not to get fooled by the appearance of this HP Lovecraft looking cat. His true form would blow a normal human's mind, which Anne nearly learned the hard way.

Monika: Following some discussion, the Guardian would return Anne to the living world so that she could live a life well lived so she could become a better guardian later, also giving one-time use shards of the Calamity Gems to allow her to return home with Marcy and Sasha.

Junko: Yeah, this interaction with the Guardian is important because of the circumstances. The Guardian could make a direct copy of Anne's being just before she died and send it back to the normal world, meaning Anne could get at least one revival upon dying. This is in addition to the Guardian being able to see the future.

Monika: But that doesn't mean she's completely immortal.

Junko: Anne isn't much of a strategist, typically jumping into battle with a simple three-step plan... get in close, do not get hit, and hit. She's proven to be able to adapt on the fly and be tactical with her surroundings of course, but still, definitely not a fighting genius.

Monika: Her transformations also have some glaring weaknesses. Most notable are the stamina issues. Turns out, the power of the gems places a large strain on the human body, and Anne can only stay transformed for so long before burning out, kinda like Kaioken. While she did get better at maintaining them over time, they do still pack a stamina issue, eventually resulting in her being depowered and drained when she reverts to her base state.

Junko: And as stated before, using all three gems and turning to that white form will kill her.

Monika: Still, as a result of her journey, Anne had helped change Amphibia for the better, along with her friends, and herself. Before, she used to be a somewhat impulsive girl who usually took the easy way out of things, letting people walk all over her as a result, and she was not really sure what she wanted to do in life or who she was. However, this life-changing journey led to Anne understanding responsibility, bravery, and empathy for others, and finding and learning to love herself for who she truly is.

Anne: Change can be difficult, but it's how we grow. It can be the hardest thing to realize you can't hold on to something forever. Sometimes, you have to let it go; but, of the things you let go, you'd be surprised what makes its way back to you.
