Did Paul write the pastoral epistles? It is generally taught that he wrote 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus. For a long time most people were in agreement of that. Until the 18th century anyways.

There are letters scholars definitely agree Paul wrote: Romans, Corinthians, Philippians, etc. But when one compares these letters to the pastoral epistles, there are some clear differences. Things like language and writing style differ in the letters. Even certain ideas Paul had in his other letters are different from the pastoral epistles.

It is very possible that someone much later on admired Paul's works and wrote something of their own under his name. But it is also still very possible Paul himself did write these letters (some believe a secretary was used for some and that it would explain the style and language differences) (scribes or secretaries were often used in this time). It will probably never been known who wrote them and if it was Paul or not.
