Wanda shoved a stick of gum in her mouth as she stood against the brick wall of an old building downtown. She was waiting for her regulars and hoped the mint from her gum would mask some of the booze and nicotine from her mouth. She was too old to be working the streets but she had a few men that had been seeing her for years and felt a compulsion to partake in her services. She looked up at the cloudy sky. It looked as if it would rain soon. A rumbling in the air confirmed her suspicions. She hoped she got at least one customer before it began to pour and her night would be ruined.

A black sedan drove up with its lights on. Wanda shielded her eyes from the light and pushed herself off of the wall. The man was wearing a baseball cap and tinted glasses.

Wanda smirked, "He must be trying to hide his identity to wear those glasses at night." She sashayed to the driver's window and leaned in, "Hey there honey, you looking for someone to keep you warm tonight?"

The man laughed, "Not exactly."

Wanda laughed and stood up from the window, "I'm sorry. My mistake." She didn't want to play games tonight. Her regulars would be here soon and there was something familiar and off-putting about this guy.

"I need your help Wanda," he said as he lit a cigarette.

"Now how did you know my name?"

"Oh come on Wanda. You really don't remember me?" He removed his glasses and Wanda gasped. She recognized the light blue eyes. Vincent McDaniels had the eyes of an angel. Unfortunately, she knew that he had the soul of a devil.

"How did you find me?" She backed up a step.

"Find you? I never lost you Wanda. I need your help."

"I'm never helping you again. Not after what you did to that girl. You're sick!"

"You're killing me here Wanda. Don't make me return the favor."

Wanda stood there in her mini-dress and stilettos that she was too old to be wearing, freezing, and it wasn't even winter. Vincent's cold glare was making her shiver. She knew he was serious. He could easily kill her without blinking an eye. He was evil in human form.

"What do you want from me?" she whispered.

"You act like I'm forcing you to help me out. I just need you to talk to someone for me. That's all."

"Who?"

"You'll find out later. Now follow me so we can buy you some clothes that fit you. Aren't you a little too old to be hooking?"

Wanda crossed her arms, "I don't want to go anywhere with you."

Vincent held his hand out the window and slammed it against the door. "Get in the damned car Wanda!"

Wanda looked around. No one was paying attention to her or the car in front of her. No one would even know that she was in danger. People minded their own business in this area. It wasn't unusual to turn a blind eye to illegal doings. She walked around and got in the car.

Vincent smiled and replaced his tinted glasses. "Now was that so hard?"

Wanda kept her arms crossed and sat as close to the door as she could.

"Are you scared of me Wanda? You don't have to be you know. After all...you're my sister." The smile he gave Wanda made the hair on the back of her neck stand on end.

"Who do you want me to meet?"

"Your nephew."

At Her Apartment

It was raining outside and Joelynn was exercising in her apartment. Dr. Spencer suggested she exercise to relieve stress. She tried yoga and hated it. She tried some crazy infomercial workout that was completely insane. Now she was trying Zumba. She actually enjoyed it. The music from the exercise video made her forget all of her problems and she could easily lose herself in the dance moves.

She was about to execute her version of the Samba when a pounding on the door filled the air. She jumped at the noise, paused her DVD, and walked to her door. She peered through the peephole to see Officer Dempsey trying to shield himself from the rain.

Opening the door, she asked, "What are you doing here so late? Did something happen?"

He ran a hand through his damp dark hair and cleared his throat, "May I come in?"

She was confused but stood out of the way to let him in. "What's this about? Did you find something out about Eva?"

Before answering, he tried rubbing some of the water off of his face. "I talked to Detective Smith today. He and Detective Ellis found another dead prostitute."

"Really?" It was shocking information but she didn't understand why he was telling her this.

"It was Trixie."

Joelynn felt the blood drain from her face. "What did you say?"

"It was Trixie. She's dead."

"How? I just saw her the other day. Was it one of her customers?"

Officer Dempsey frowned, "I don't want to startle you. Why don't you sit down Joelynn?"

"Sit down? Is there something else? Does this have to do with Eva?"

He looked around thinking of the best way to tell her. On the way over, he had thought of a speech to give telling her that she shouldn't be worried about a note threatening a "Lewis woman." There were plenty of women with the last name Lewis. He would tell her that he would keep an eye out for her as well.

"You're really starting to freak me out! Just spit it out!"

"It's nothing really..." He was about to continue when her phone made a loud dinging sound. She picked it up from her coffee table because she recognized it as Jacob's specific message tone. "

The first message read, "Call the cops and he dies."

"What?" Joelynn was confused by the message. She looked at Officer Dempsey who was giving her a strange look. "Is everything okay?"

Perhaps the message was sent to her by mistake or as a joke. Focusing on the man in front of her, she asked, "Does this have to do with Eva?"

"I didn't say that."

Another dinging noise filled the air. Joelynn looked at it. It was a picture message. It was as if her heart stopped beating. The picture was of her best friend Jacob. He was tied up and bleeding from his head. "Oh my God."

"Joelynn? What's the matter?" Officer Dempsey could tell something was wrong.

Joelynn looked up at him. She had completely forgotten Officer Dempsey was there. She was about to show him the message when another dinging sound revealed a third text message, "Tell the cops and he dies."

Joelynn gripped her phone. "Nothing. Nothing's wrong. Listen, if it's not about Eva can we talk about this tomorrow? I'm not feeling well and I'm not really up for having visitors."

Dempsey was stunned. He didn't understand the immediate change in her attitude.

"Joelynn...what's wrong?"

"I said nothing was wrong. Jeez why don't you just leave already?"

Her rude comment upset him. "Fine. I'll leave." He quickly left her apartment and ran in the rain to his car.

Joelynn watched him get inside his car from her window. She looked down at the latest text which was an address. If she wanted to save Jacob, she would have to go to the address alone. Joelynn recognized the street as being in a bad part of town. She quickly threw on a raincoat and grabbed her car keys. She messed up once with Eva...she wasn't going to do it with Jacob.

She ran to her car and began to make the drive to the address from her text message.

Meanwhile

Officer Dempsey sat in his car trying to replay what just happened in that apartment. He had half a mind to get out of his car and demand an explanation when he spotted Joelynn running out of her apartment and to her vehicle.

"Now that's weird," he said to himself. As Joelynn started her car, he decided that it might be a good idea to follow her. He noticed that her driving was reckless. Clearly something was bothering her. She was driving to a seedy part of town. This couldn't be good. She pulled her car into the driveway of a vacant house. He knew it was vacant because of the "For Sale" sign on the front lawn. He parked a few houses down. "What are you doing Joelynn?" He knew she couldn't hear him but her behavior was odd and it worried him.

In the House

Joelynn walked into the house without any problems. The last message she received told her that the door would be unlocked. It was dark inside. She reached for the wall and tried to find a light switch. When she finally found it, she flipped the switch on and off.

Nothing.

The electricity was not on in the house. Joelynn used her phone as a flashlight to guide her way. "Jacob..." she called out tentatively. "Jacob are you here?"

Her phone dinged again. She looked at the message, "He's down in the basement."

For a brief moment Joelynn thought that this is where she would die. Random thoughts flashed in her mind like, "Am I wearing my good panties today? Did I leave anything embarrassing in my search history on my laptop? I hope Eva's okay."

Using her cellphone to guide her, she looked around for stairs leading to the basement. The kitchen had a door. She opened it to see that there were stairs leading to another door. This had to be the basement. Behind that door was her best friend Jacob. The sound of the rain pounding outside became heavier. She was about to take a step down the stairs when she felt someone behind her. Before she could turn around, she felt something push against her back.

Moments Later

Disguised in the dark, he pulled out his phone and took a quick picture of Joelynn's body at the bottom of the stairs. He smiled. Eva was going to love seeing this.
