It did not take long for Embry to arrive at his former home when the news about Maya's parents wanting her back home reached him.

He was beyond livid and fortunate to the fact that he or even Seth no longer phased, because they did not have to worry about exceeding their anger beyond control.

"Why the hell are they coming back expecting we'll do as they asked?!?" Embry slammed his hands on the counter as he peered at Maya who was just looking down at the letter.

"Maya is still a minor, we don't have a choice, Embry" Tiffany explained but her son was not having it.

Seth was silent for the most part because he knew that having both him and Embry yelling would only make Maya feel worse. She needed him just there to not say anything but just comfort her.

"They practically abandoned her mom! How can you even think that sending her back is even an option?!" The older male expressed louder with each word," For god sake, they are not her parents as far as I am concerned!"

"Embry, stop" Tiffany's voice strained as she raised her voice," There is nothing we can do"

"Yes, there is, we fight for her! Tell her Maya, tell her that you want to stay!" Embry turned to his cousin as he locked eyes with her," This is your home, this is where you want to be right?"

Maya opened her mouth but the words refused to form. Of course, he was right, of course, this was her home.

However, as outrageous as it was, Maya had one small of her heart that still longed the acceptance of her parents.

"Maybe" Maya started but Embry shut her down

"Don't you dare, Maya, don't even try and think of a 'maybe' or 'what if'. You know they abandoned you, they sent you off here to La Push without a second thought! As far as I see it, they just want you because you are exactly what they wanted, someone who can be their trophy"

"Embry!!!" Tiffany shouted at his words," That's enough from you!!!"

Maya was hurt, beyond anything—however, she was sure it wasn't because of Embry, but the fact that it hurt because he was right.

He was past the truth because even she knew that they only wanted her because she was walking the path they wanted from the start.

It scared her because it felt now that as if this was all planned from the start. It was as if they knew she was going to become groomed into the image they wanted.

Her parents were faultlessly conniving that it horrified her. For a moment of allowing it to sink in, she was sure her parents were the true monsters that lurked the darkness.
