Never

Opening the door, I realize I'm the last one home and I'm not the only one who's had a rough day. A box of tissues is flubbed in-between my parents as little conversations pick up hear and there until there's nothing else to talk about.

I think about what the chief Peacekeeper had said to me as I left Boston behind. Telling anyone what Boston had said, that this year's reaping had been rigged all around the country, will get me in serious trouble.  I can't risk telling my family, knowing that a Peacekeeper could be standing outside our door and easily eavesdrop on the conversation.

I sit down next to my Grandpa and he stares off into space, blind to his surroundings. Ever since my grandparents got married, they've both been nervous that they'd be endangering they're future family. Towards the end of the rebellion, my grandmother finally decided she wouldn't be as well off on her own, so she got married. She told me she's never regretted such a choice, even though she loves her husband. 'But,' she told me, 'I will NEVER change what I have for the world.' And now, half of her world is gone.

I decide to finally break the silence. "Grandma,"I say, "before you leave for the Capitol, can I have a word... With you... Alone?" She slowly raises here figure from the easy chair she was sitting in. We go down to the basement where I know no one can here us. Just for safety precautions, I quickly bolt all the locks and windows and shut the blinds. It's dark but it will have to do.

"The reapings were rigged!" I shout. There's an angry tone in my voice.

She responds slowly as she takes the information in. "Anil," she says solemnly. "Every year since the murder of Paylor, I've been forced to mentor close friends and family and watch them all die gruesomly because of the mistakes I made in the past. Now that Snow's granddaughter rules, there's nothing I can do to save them and I'm sorry."

This isn't what I expected the conversation to turn to. "I know, but since every Victor, even the ones from Districts One and Two, are being punished, doesn't that mean that Katniss and Peeta have to watch they're grandchildren die and suffer in pain if Jonas or Boston will survive this?"

"I never thought of that," she replies. There's a look in her eyes that tells me something is seriously wrong. "Annie!" She whispers. She runs out the door faster than fast, leaving me confused with bewilderment. I've met the Mellarks before and I've heard of an Annie from District Four, but NEVER have I seen her so nerve wracked that some one else is in danger.

As I arrive downstairs, I hear silent conversation erupting. "Annie Cresta." I can hear the worrie in his tone add he speaks. "She's already lost Finnick, we can't let her lose her grandchildren. This isn't going to go well for anyone.

I'm still up in my room when I hear the door slam shut. 'Probably the Peacekeepers coming to take the mentor away,' I think.

I head down where the rest of my family still sits in sorrow. As I arrive, the TV screen flickers on and the anthem of Panem plays over the seal. President Candidal Snow is shown on screen. Whistling and clapping, cheering and chanting can all be heard in the back from Capitol citizens. "Ladies and gentlemen! Boys and girls! Let's get ready for the 85th Hunger games!" More cheering. "Now who is ready to watch the recap of the reapings? I know I am!" She's gone and the screen is replaced by District One's seal. There is no turning back now....
