WHEN ANDREA ELMONT CLOSES her eyes, she sees herself, only years older.

In her mind, she ages well — little wrinkles on the outer corners of her eyes, on her forehead, in the space between her nostrils and the corners of her mouth from a lifetime of laughing, skin still tanned, body still banging. She sees a long life of happiness and prosperity. She sees a career as a top lawyer, and she sees trophies, and degrees, and medals adorning the walls of her office and her house.

Fuck it, she sees an entire firm in her name.

She sees a world where people don't judge other people for who they choose to love, so she sees herself settled down with a pretty woman and a kid to call their own.

Before she can reach the life of her dreams, though, Andie first must graduate high school. And, more important than graduation, maybe, is Nationals. Win Nationals, become Valedictorian, go to Harvard. It's a straight-forward path to success.

Well...

Andie's dreams never told her that the plane that would be taking the team to Nationals would go down. Seems like a major oversight on their part. It's once they're on the ground, stuck in the wilderness, that Andie's dreams — once full of hope — turn sour. She dreams of torn flesh, and blood staining snow, and old decrepit churches, and bones in place of fingers. She dreams of antlers and body armour, of friend turned on friend.

If they were just dreams, Andie could get past them. Of course, one would have nightmares in their scenario. It's the fact that Andie's dreams have predicted her future before, and she knows they'll do it again. They predicted her meeting Nat, and Gina, and Jackie, and the other girls on the team. They predicted her parents splitting up. They predicted that the team would win the qualifying game for Nationals.

Andie knows it's unlikely — that maybe the team will be found and rescued before things go from bad to worse to barbaric. But, she can hold on to it, right? She can be the one who doesn't start worshipping the trees and eating flesh, can't she?
