"You can see people's dreams too?" Dani paled as she stared at Calvin who had just removed his glasses.

"Surely you didn't think you were the only one, did you?" he smirked at her expression. "Ahh...I see that you did. How unexpected. Didn't your mother explain everything to you when you were younger"

"What are you talking about? My mother? She didn't know anything about my nightmares."

Calvin frowned, "She said she didn't? Now that's strange."

"Why is that strange?"

"Because she can see people's nightmares too. Actually, our mother can do a whole lot more than that."

"Is this a nightmare?" Dani whispered to herself, trying to pinch her left arm.

Calvin chuckled, "How surprising. You're not what I expected Dani."

"Let me get this straight. You want me to believe that you're my brother and both you and my mom can see people's nightmares?"

"That sums it up."

"Who's your father?"

"The same man that fathered you."

"You're lying!"

"Mom left you two behind not knowing I was inside her. By then it was too late. She had already made her escape."

"Why should I believe you?" Dani asked.

"Why not? What reason do I have to lie?"

Dani shook her head, trying to make sense of what he was saying, "So you pretended to act like one of my old friends thinking I'd get to know you and then what?"

"Then you'd come home with us," Calvin said.

"Us?"

"Me and mom. We're family."

"Listen, it's nice to know that you can also see people's nightmares but you're kind of freaking me out so can you say what you want to say and leave?" the back of Dani's knees bumped into a side table.

"Don't you want to know how I knew about Billy Gearson?" Calvin asked. "You old neighbor?"

Dani shook her head.

"It was in an article online. I've been keeping tabs on you, my big sister. When you told that reporter how great a friend Billy was and that you'd miss him, I thought you'd warm up to me if I resembled him. It's why I wore glasses. No matter what, you seemed scared of me."

"This is just bizarre," Dani mumbled. "I don't have a brother."

"Yes, you do. You have me. I'm your family, Dani."

"You even moved into old apartment."

"Yes."

"You don't think that's creepy?" Dani asked.

Calvin shook his head, "People live and die all the time. Why shouldn't I live there?"

"What do you want from me?" Dani asked. "You keep talking about family and all that but what exactly is it that you want?"

"I just want to help you like a brother would."

"Then why the stuttering neighbor act? It makes me not want to trust you," Dani crossed her arms. "You're like that guy from Harry Potter who everyone thought was sweet but ended up being the bad guy."

Calvin tossed back his head and laughed, the sound filling the room and echoing around Dani, "Harry Potter? I knew I'd like you. I'm not the bad guy here, Dani. I'm here to help you. It's hard for people like us to connect so it's important that we make the most of it when we do. I wanted you to warm up to me before I told you who I was."

"People like us?"

"You, me, and Mom."

Dani sat down, "I've gone years without a mother and a brother. I don't need one now."

"You do need us. Besides, that detective may not remain by your side for very long," Calvin said quietly.

Dani's eyes widened, "What's that supposed to mean?"

"The main reason why I wanted to meet you was to warn you."

"About what?"

"You've been marked. Haven't you noticed?"

"I don't know what you're talking about," Dani answered.

Calvin frowned, "Surely you've noticed him in your dreams, Dani. He's been visiting you. Imagine how surprised I was when I touched you and was able to peek into your dreams only to see Death."

Dani felt hot and queasy, "Wh-what?"

"Now you're the stuttering one," Calvin whispered. "I'm sorry Dani, but you've got to do something soon or he'll keep visiting you. Death is a very particular being. If he's visiting you, it's a warning. He's giving you a chance to change your destiny. If you don't, he'll be taking you soon."

Dani couldn't speak. Everything was too bizarre for her to make sense of, "You're telling me I'm going to die soon?"

"Unless you change your destiny. Usually it's a total change of atmosphere."

"Why are you telling me this? Why do you care?"

"You're my sister. Of course I care."

Dani wasn't sure how to respond. She opened her mouth when a knock on the door interrupted her.

"Dani! Dani open the door!"

"Oliver?" Dani stood up and quickly let in her boss. "Oliver what's going on? Donovan said you closed down the diner. I saw the sign. Is this because of what happened between us?"

Oliver was breathing heavily and gave Calvin a wary look, "Who are you?"

"He's my weird neighbor," Dani said before stepping in front of Oliver. "What's going on?"

"It's about your mother," Oliver whispered while glancing at Calvin. "Maybe I should wait until you don't have any company."

"If it's about my mother, please continue," Calvin said. "Oops, I mean...our mother, right Dani?"

"You're her son?" Oliver asked. "Calvin?"

"That's right." Calvin said. "Did she ask you to take Dani away? I told her not to bother...that I would handle everything. We can leave town within the hour."

"As if I'd let a stranger take Dani. She's like my daughter!"

"Excuse me," Dani said loudly while glaring at Calvin. "I think you two are forgetting that I'm an adult and can decide on my own whether or not I'm leaving anywhere...which I'm not."

"Is this about your boyfriend?" Oliver asked.

"The detective?" Calvin piped in. "He has a dangerous job which could be a threat to her. No, I think it's best that she leave sooner than later."

Oliver nodded.

Dani screamed in frustration, "Out! Both of you get out! I'm sorry but no one is telling me to go anywhere! Oliver, you can't believe a woman who abandoned me years ago just like I'm not going to believe this weird and lying neighbor of mine."

"I'm not weird," Calvin huffed. "I'm your brother."

"Oliver you're like a father to me but I'm sorry. I'm not leaving town."

"Dani-"

Dani's phone rang. It was an unknown number but she answered it.

"Is this Dani Deleon?" the caller asked.

"Yes, who is this?"

"My name is Tristan. I was the detective in charge at Majestic Waters. I'm also Gladys' brother."

"Is something wrong? Is Gladys okay?" Dani asked, while frowning at her two guests.

"No, it's about Detective Jax Michaels. Roberto wouldn't call you but I remembered you and Michaels had a thing going on. Haven't you been watching the news?"

"The news? No, I don't watch television."

"There was an explosion at the hospital and your boyfriend-"

"I'll be right there," Dani whispered before disconnecting the call.

"Don't go," Calvin warned her.

"I have to," she said. "Jax is in trouble."

"Someone close to you is going to lead you to your death," Oliver said. "That's what your mother told me. What if that someone is Jax?"

Dani shrugged, "You don't know that."

"Neither do you," Oliver pleaded. "Please don't go. Let us take you away from here Dani."

Dani shook her head, "No. I'm not going to abandon Jax. I love him."

"What if he's the reason you end up dead?" Calvin hissed. "Do you love him enough to die for him?"

Dani opened her door and stepped into the corridor outside her apartment. She turned back to Oliver and Calvin.

"Is he worth dying for Dani?" Calvin asked.

She let her heart answer his question,"Yes."
