It was dark and cold inside the depths of my mind. But staying in my head was the only safe place left for me to go. I lay in bed dreaming of the sun's radiant light shining down on me, filling me with a burst of happiness I once had.

In the distance, I see a ball of fluff running towards me with such delight. A smile spreads across my face, as I run towards the dog with my arms open wide.

We were both so happy together, chasing each other under the sun. But the moment was short-lived when the world around me went black, and I fell into the gaping black abyss.

"Bean wait!" I screamed desperately.

I looked around to find myself in bed. Sighing in relief, I realized that it was all just a dream. But what did it all mean, I wondered in a cold sweat. Only to be interrupted by a kick at my door.

"You again, huh? Some of us want to sleep, so keep quiet will ya!" Yelled out a raspy voice.

All went silent as I clamped my hands over my mouth. Hearing the faint sound of footsteps getting farther and farther away. A rhythm that finally made me able to drift off to sleep.

The smell of gruel filled the air, which jolted me awake with squinted eyes. I rolled out of bed, brushed my teeth, and started to get dressed. And just like that, it finally hit me. This wasn't a happy place full of rainbows and sweet dogs like Bean at all. All of my memories of this world came flooding back.

"This isn't anything like the life I know," I thought, looking out the window. Time has changed, nothing is the same, which made me wonder, how long was I stuck in a dream-state?
