"Here by my side, you are destruction
Here by my side, a new colour to paint the world
Never turn your back on it
Never turn your back on it, again
Here by my side, it's heaven"

"Weapon" -Matthew Good

The test told her she was Erudite.

Of course she was, she knew it.

Like most people, the test told her what faction she should choose on the morrow, and like most people, it was the faction to which she was born and raised in. Erudite had been her home, though she never truly believed that she fit in there. Knowledgeable and witty as she was, there was always something in the back of her mind that craved more than what she would be given in that particular faction. However, until a year ago, she never considered leaving her faction in some hormonal attempt to gain something else from her life. The choosing ceremony was done at a young age, where the people choosing were vulnerable, confused, and lacked self discipline to make hard choices.

Harper Von Treese was given a choice, but not the same one as everyone else. Everyone else got to take the test, and it would likely clarify exactly what they should do. Stay in their current faction, choose the faction that the test told them to do; very few would know if you choose other than what your test suggested.

Harper knew a year prior to her choosing ceremony, when she was only fifteen what she had to choose. Not only was it one of the most difficult factions to survive in, but it was one of the most difficult, life changing events Harper had to make.

Harper had to choose Dauntless not because she thought herself as brave and strong, but because she had made a promise to someone who meant a lot to her. She stood there, the blood dripping from her palm, the sensory nerves telling her she was in mild pain, and watched all the faces around her. In front of her were all the teenagers who were choosing today, some looked ill, some looked horror-struck, some smirked, and others -the Dauntless- cheered as the decision was made. Straight-backed, Harper turned from the stage and walked down the small flight of stairs towards the Dauntless section.

Something twisted inside of her when she thought of the path she had started down. The path of deceit and lies, tests of her physical and mental limitations and strength. If she failed today, she would fail the one person that she trusted most in this world; her father. And if she succeeded the tests, the initiation process of Dauntless, and became one of them, she had to remember not to lose her way and drown in the lies and corruption that was water inside of a ship; seeping in from all exposed angles, bringing the ship down until the light was gone from sight.
