Strengthening Memory

In order to strengthen one's memory, one must stay away from sins and anything that brings the displeasure of Allah.

Imam Muhammad bin Idrees Shafi'ee رحمه الله once complained to his teacher; Waki':

I complained to Waki' of bad memory; so he advised me to abandon sins. And he told me that knowledge is a light; and the light of Allah is not given to a sinner.

Also, effort should be made to memorise and remember things. The best times to memorise is after Fajr and Maghrib.

And eating brain foods such as honey, raisins, almonds and milk.

Being consistent on learning, doing repetitive revision also helps you store the data in your long term memory.

DUAS

‎اللَّهُمَّ انْفَعْنِي بِمَا عَلَّمْتَنِي، وَعَلِّمْنِي مَا يَنْفَعُنِي، وَارْزُقْنِي عِلْمًا تَنْفَعُنِي بِهِ

Transliteration:
Allahumma infa'ni bimaa 'allamtani wa'allimni maa yanfa'uuni warzuqni 'ilman tanfa'uni bihi.

Translation:
Oh Allah! Make useful for me what you have taught me, (and) teach me knowledge that will be useful to me and grant me such knowledge that will benefit me.

‎اللَّهُمَّ لا سَهْلَ إِلاَّ ما جَعَلْتَهُ سَهْلاً، وأنْتَ تَجْعَلُ الحَزْنَ إذَا شِئْتَ سَهْلًا

Transliteration:
Allahumma laa sahla illaa maa ja'altahu sahlan wa anta taj'alul hazna idhaa shi'ta sahlan.

Translation:
Oh Allah! Nothing is easy except what you have made easy. If you wish, you can make the difficult easy.

‎رَبِّيْ زِدْنِيْ عِلْمًا

Transliteration:
Rabbi zidni 'ilman

Translation:
O Allah increase me in beneficial knowledge.
(Surah Taha)

‎رَبَّنَا آتِنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً وَهَيِّئْ لَنَا مِنْ أَمْرِنَا رَشَدًا

Transliteration:
Rabbana aatinaa milladunka rahmah. Wa hayyi' Lana min amrinaa rashadaa.

Translation:
Our Lord, bless us with mercy from Your own and provide us with guidance in our matters.
(Surah Kahf, Ayah 10)

‎رَبِّ اشْرَحْ لِيْ صَدْرِي وَيَسِّرْ لِيْ أَمْرِي وَاحْلُلْ عُقْدَةً مِّن لِّسَانِي يَفْقَهُوْا قَوْلِيْ.

Transliteration:
Rabbishrahli sadri wa yassir lee amri wahlol 'uqdatam mil lisaani yafqahoo qauli.

Translation:
O my Lord, Make my heart at peace, make my matter easy, remove the knot from my tongue so that they may understand my speech.
(Surah Taha)
