Past

*Quin Kingdom.*

Meng Yao's eyes open at dusk. He feels out of sorts.

'Why has Shin not returned yet?' He wonders.

Shin, his beloved sister, had gone to the Wang Kingdom the day before. She had fallen for a human Prince. At least, that is what she had told him. His sister was a weird one. She liked to be fucked by wolves. Unlike him, who used to change his bed partner every night, she had continued to use a wolf called Shen, almost every day for the last sixteen years.

She had rescued Shen when she had found him almost dead, near the Wang Kingdom. First, she had tried to win his heart. She had wanted to be loved by him. But when the wolf had kept refusing her, she had given up and used her power of persuasion.

She had made sure that he doesn't kill himself. For almost sixteen years, she had injected him with silver, to keep him from turning. Till one day, at a banquet, she had come across a young Prince and had decided to marry him.

"Brother, he is the most beautiful man I have ever seen. I want to turn him. I want to mark him. I want to marry him." She had told Meng Yao.

Meng Yao had allowed it. At first, he had sent a polite letter to YiJun's uncle, the Regent, and asked for YiJun's hand in marriage for his sister. When the Regent had refused, he had attacked the neighboring Kingdoms to show his might.

Having no choice but to bow down to the strength of Quin kingdom, The Regent had agreed to the alliance between his nephew and Princess Shin.

Shin had left a day before; she was supposed to return to Quin the same night with her husband, but she hadn't.

Meng Yao had waited to receive his sister, but as the sun had risen, his eyes had closed.

He was a night creature, after all. The first one to be born out of the curse: Jade's Curse.

Unlike his clan, whom he had chosen and turned, he had the power to walk in the sun. The sunlight, however, made him weak.

Meng Yao did not like the feeling of being weak, so he avoided the sun. He knew that he was invincible. Though the bite of a wolf was painful to him, it did not have the power to kill him.

There was only one way to kill him, but he had closed that path more than a century ago.

After Shin had left for Wang Kingdom, Meng Yao had secretly sent his most trusted man, XiChen, to watch over Shin as a part of her escort team, but Shin had refused, "Brother, I can take care of myself." She had said.

XiChen, therefore, had left for the Wang Kingdom a few hours after Shin had left.

Now, it was already dusk, and there was still no sign of either of them.

Meng Yao decides to go to Wang Kingdom himself. He prepares the guards and is about to set out, when the palace gates open and XiChen enters with Shin.

Meng Yao runs towards them and takes Shin's mutilated body from XiChen's arms.

Meng Yao's eyes turn red with anger when he sees Shin's condition. "XiChen, why is my sister like this!?"

XiChen falls at Meng Yao's feet, "Master, I am sorry. I found her like this in Wang palace."

"What!? Did Shen do this to her?" Meng Yao asks, looking at his sister's ripped out throat.

"I think so, Master. I tried to search for him, but I think he fled right after he bit princess."

Meng Yao observes the bite, and his eyes take in the gaping wound in her abdomen. "I think he stabbed her too." Meng Yao pauses, "What about the prince?"

"Master, I killed him. Shin had bitten him, so after hiding the princess, I went to destroy the Prince. The last time I saw him, he was attacking our men ruthlessly. He had turned. So I shot him with a silver arrow. He fell to the floor, and his body caught fire."

Meng Yao keeps looking at his sister, "So the prince is dead?"

"Yes, he is." XiChen answers.

"How could this have happened?" Meng Yao thinks out loud, looking at Shin.

"Master, I am sorry that I failed you."

Meng Yao carries Shin inside. He feeds her his blood. The wounds on her chest and neck heal, but she doesn't wake up. "XiChen, go to Wang Kingdom and kill them all."

XiChen stands up and bows, "Master, I have already done that. I knew you would want to punish them, so I killed everyone."

Meng Yao smiles, "I knew I could count on you, my boy."

*About one year after YiJun and Shen part ways with Xian's Parents*

Because of immense strength, and power of persuasion, Wangji and Shen never have problems living a comfortable life.

Over the course of a year, YiJun understands his strengths and weaknesses. He realizes that unlike the night creatures who burn when the sunlight touches them, he merely feels mild discomfort in his eyes every time he tries to look at the sun. He finds out that like, his uncle, he too is allergic to silver; that when it enters his bloodstream, he is unable to shift into his wolf form.

He figures out that like the night creatures, if he has to survive, he must consume blood at least once a week. If he doesn't, then he becomes restless and loses control.

The very first time the urge had overpowered him, he had run to the woods and killed a wild boar and consumed its blood. He had felt better for a few minutes, but after that, he had thrown up all the blood he had ingested.

Shen had warned him about it when YiJun had insisted on trying to survive on animal blood. "YiJun, you can not survive on animal blood." He had said, but YiJun had decided to give it a try anyway.

After the failed experiment, Shen had handed over a bowl of human blood to YiJun; he had collected it after killing a convicted rapist.

Because Shen had stayed with Princess Shin for years, he had learned much about the night creatures. He had expected YiJun to have a thirst for blood and sex. Shen was wrong on both accounts.

Even when YiJun had consumed the blood brought by Shen, he had had a disgusted look on his face. Blood was just something that kept him sane. Unlike night creatures, however, blood never brought YiJun any pleasure.

YiJun had become reserved and withdrawn. The only time he smiled was when he was next to Xian. The only person he spoke to was Xian. It was a different matter that Xian never replied. Xian never moved or spoke. But YiJun continued to keep his promise.

Every dusk, and every dawn, YiJun would go to his soulmate and kiss him; he would tell him that he loved him. He bathed and cleaned Xian and kept him comfortable.

YiJun never slept. He spent his nights reading books after books on anything and everything he could find.

The first books he had tried to read were Xian's magic books, but try as he may, he had not been able to read them. That is when Shen had explained that only people from the Bai or Xiao line could read them.

Unlike the night creatures who craved sex and bodily pleasures, YiJun had started hating human touch. The only person he could tolerate being around was Shen. YiJun started wearing gloves so that he didn't have to touch anyone or anything.

He practiced and refined his persuasion powers and used it to punish convicted criminals. He never touched them, nor did he ever kill them.

Every time he felt the need to kill his prey, Xian's words, spoken long ago, echoed in YiJun's mind, "My Jun is not a killer."

He started kidnapping criminals. He cut their wrists and collected blood. Then he healed them with a drop of his blood and let them go, before persuading them to confess their crimes.

Since they did not want to draw attention to themselves, they moved frequently; never staying in one place for more than a few weeks.

Shen kept searching for Xian, hoping for his nephew's love to return. Shen never disclosed the truth. He never told YiJun that Xian would never return to him in the same body.

Years stated to pass like sand through an hourglass. YiJun kept and cared for Xian. His eyes never wandered, and his heart never wavered.

Fifty years passed in the blink of an eye, and one day while YiJun was following a criminal, his eyes fell on a boy. And for the first time in fifty years, YiJun's eyes wandered.

Present

Wangji carries Xian into the Lan mansion and sets him down on the couch.

"You know, I can walk. You didn't need to carry me like that." Xian says, smiling at Wangji. But before Wangji can say anything, Shen arrives and looks at Xian, "Wangji, what happened?"

Wangji walks to Shen, "Xian, please rest a little. I will be right back." Wangji instructs, before leaving the room with Shen

"Uncle, last night, Xian drank my blood. He dreamed about Xian. My Xian. He says that he was in this condition when he woke up."

"This doesn't make any sense," Shen says, shaking his head.

"Uncle, he is in love with me...I mean with Jun." Wangji says softly. The tips of his ears turn red.

"What do you plan on doing?"

"I think I should heal him. But I don't want to use my powers on him. I was thinking of giving him an anesthetic and then healing him. I have healed his wounds as Jun a few times already." Wangji says hesitantly.

"Mn. Take Xian to the guest room. I am taking Zhau with me to the office."

When Shen leaves, YiJun carries Xian to the guest room.

"Sleep, Xian. I will call the doctor." Wangji informs, giving him a glass of water.

As soon as Xian has the water, he falls asleep. Wangji closes all the doors and windows; when the room goes dark, he climbs into the bed next to Xian, who smiles in his sleep and pulls Wangji close.

The urge to heal Xian with his blood is strong, but Wangji decides against it. What if he dreams more Xian's past and ends up getting hurt again?

Wangji holds Xian for a few minutes, then takes his wrists and licks them. Within a matter of seconds, the wounds on Xian's wrists heal, and his skin becomes blemish-free.

Xian hums and buries his face into Wangji's neck. Wangji enjoys the warmth of Xian's body as he holds the young man close.

He stays next to Xian for a few minutes before cupping his face; he looks peaceful, beautiful, lying next to Wangji.

Wangji moves his face closer to Xian and licks his lips. Xian smiles. "Jun... " he murmurs. Wangji strokes Xian forehead, kissing it, "Your Jun is here." He whispers.

Xian purrs, pulling himself closer to Wangji. Wangji tries to get away, but the younger man doesn't let him move even an inch away; Wangji falls asleep.

When Xian opens his eyes, he finds himself in Wangji's arms. He smiles and looks at his wrists; as expected, he finds them completely healed. Feeling thirsty, Xian leaves the bed.

He walks to the kitchen and notices that the house is empty. He had expected that a mansion this size would have at least a dozen servants. But he finds none. Curious, he decides to take a tour around the house. He is sure that Wangji won't mind.

His legs carry him towards Wangji's bedroom. He is about to open the door when someone puts a hand on his shoulder. He yelps and turns, "Mr. Lan! You are awake."

When Wangji had opened his eyes, he had found himself in bed alone. He had panicked and run out of the room. While looking for the young man, he had spotted Xian just outside his room, his hand hovering over the doorknob. Moving with haste, Wangji had stopped the young man before he could enter the room that held the immortal's secret past.

Wangji schools his features, "Mr. Wei, just because I am helping you, doesn't mean you can do whatever you want in this house." he says coldly.

Xian's face falls, 'But you are mine.' he thinks before looking away, "I am sorry. I won't do it again. I am feeling better now. I should leave."

Xian goes to the guest room and starts gathering his things. Wangji stops him. "What are you doing?"

"I think I should leave." Xian answers.

"I didn't give you permission to leave yet."

Xian doesn't stop. He keeps gathering his things.

'Damn it!'

"Aren't you curious about how your wounds have healed so quickly?"

Xian stops in his tracks. When Wangji had coldly spoken to him, he had felt terrible.

"I don't want to know. I am sorry that I inconvenienced you..." Xian pauses and turns to look at Wangji, "Please feel free to deduct your service fee from my pay." He offers and walks away from Wangji once again; he doesn't get far.

Wangji turns him around in rough motion.

"Ouch!" Xian winces.

"I have told you before that I don't want your money!" The immortal yells.

"Then what the fuck do you want!?" Xian yells back. His heart starts hammering in his chest. He puts his hands on Wangji's collar, "Tell me, what do you want!?"

Wangji keeps staring, for he has nothing to say; he couldn't tell Wei Xian the truth without hurting him.

Xian shakes his head, "I thought so. Thank you, Mr. Lan. I will see you in the evening."

"Let me drop you home." Wangji offers grabbing Xian's arms, but the young man shrugs it off, "No need, Mr. Lan. You have already done enough." With that, Xian leaves Wangji alone with his thought.
