I'M ALREADY SCREAMING SHSJSHHAHAH HOLY FUCKING SHIT EVEN THIS EPISODE HAD ME SHOOK

Alright so this is also proof that the writing team seems to listen to us because,, wow,,, would ya look at that it's the nearly extinct species known as Hunk getting a lot of screentime and kind of really stepping up to lead when he was needed?? Woah?? That's fucking awesome?? There's a ton of leadership themes this season [duh] and I'll definitely get to them

I really enjoyed it too!! I think the whole fandom tends to agree that Hunk [and Coran] need more screentime, with Lance a close second because Lance stans are sometimes too obnoxious about it I guess?? But now they've fulfilled two and a half of those and I'm happy

And the Kuron thing,, I WAS FREAKING OUT

" IT'S HAPPENING OKAY EVERYBODY STAY CALM " - Pearl during most of this season but more specifically this ep

Plus I obviously need to address the Lanllura, which I'll probably be addressing every section let's be honest –

However, I won't get into detail on my opinions with the shipping this season until later sections

I will say that,, despite it hijacking an iconic Klance scene,,,,,,, yea the fakeout death and quick revival were pretty nice, I love characters legitimately caring about each other

THOSE FLASHBACKS WRECKED! ME! UP! INSIDE!!

I'll admit I find the whole 'this magical space plot device causes flashbacks and flashforwards therefore Keith and Krolia don't need to talk' a little shortcutty but I'm here to scream my opinions not critique on a mature level

And baby Keef,, my face is clear my crops are growing,,,,

AND HE HAS A SPACE PUPPER AND THEY RODE A SPACE WHALE FOR TWO YEARS AND I HAD TO WATCH THE FIRST TWO EPISODES WITH A GAP BEFORE THE REST AND THAT CLIFFHANGER FUCKING KILLE –

I'm gonna wait to address the Lotura until ep4 because of a Very Specific Thing but let's talk a little about the Allurance

I've never been a huge fan, and not just because I ship Klance [I'm not a big multishipper but I do like multiple pairings at once sometimes]

Truth is, I've always preferred one-sided Allurance to actual Allurance, and I love their platonic dynamic a lot more than their romantic one, but there's one thing I can never resist,,

Sad Lance

yEA Y'KNOW WHAT I'm not saying they wrote the Langt perfectly but if it means my boy is happy I'll ship him with Allura

The scenes with the space mice holy shit,, definitely gonna touch on Allura's reaction when I get to Lotura

Alright fun break!

This episode,, thank the fucking ancients for this episode,,, just like with large parts of Space Mall/The One Where Coran Does Drugs and small parts of Keef Your Mom Is Back I honestly need nonserious episodes sometimes, I don't care how well they're written I just want some fluffy, silly filler because I can't handle all the feels at once

And this episode delivered all the fucking way!

Furry Lance is something I never knew could be so dually terrible and hilarious and I just plain enjoyed seeing everyone in this D&D format, it's such a fun trope to do

And then they gave Kuron so many adorable moments ['I want to be a paladin' 'yOU'RE ALREADY A PALADIN'] and I knew shit was about to hit the fan because now they were making us feel happy about him

But I still loved it

HahahhahahaahahahhahHAHHAAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAAAHHAHFUCK

Alright alright let's address Lotor first

I'm not gonna claim I knew it for sure but I was definitely wary,,, and because of a pretty hilarious clue no less

I only got super suspicious when the Lotura kicked in

See, this show doesn't like rushed romances at the moment [in my eyes?? I dunno maybe you think that????], the only examples of actual relationships are the late Zarkon and Honerva/Haggar and any of the parents, especially ones we've actually seen

Yes, they enjoy making characters flirt or act super relatable by falling in love with Allura the moment they meet her, but they've never tried to push such sudden feelings

I couldn't accept that these kinds of writers would make Lotura sail so quickly without the water getting rough, especially when Lance starting acting far more serious and mature about his feelings for Allura

And then they didn't, and then Keith showed up and oH YEA TIME TO TALK ABOUT ROMELLE

Hot damn she came out of nowhere,, I find it hilarious that once Allura's char showed up in ep3 I thought 'aha, I'm pretty sure s5 and the s6 trailer erased the theories about Romelle returning but I guess she's officially not in the story as of right now' and then one episode later,,, there she is,,,,

I don't want to seem like I'm complaining! Lotor's plan was super fucking cool, hell, I liked the story they thought up with other Alteans, it was great!

Also Romelle's brother is goddamn adorable and didn't deserve this fight me –

Oh, and while we're on the topic of brothers [and since I'm not sure where else to put this] there was a lack of Matt, I'm kinda happy I chose him for my profile because at least I got to appreciate him today

I get it, he didn't fit into the story rn, it's fine, I just missed him is all

I don't even know what else to say,, this episode is such a roller coaster an doH YEAH KURON IS REVEALED OUT OF NOWHERE HELL, YESANDNO

I cannot deal I cANNOT DEAL

Lance's reaction to Krolia was so goddamn relatable I can't

And hey guys Keith's back I'm not crying you're crying

I might as well mention that despite how a lot of the fandom seems to get tired of his amount of attention I was just so happy to have him back in paladin armor,,,,

oH AND ANOTHER GENERAL THING I CANNOT FUCKING STOP WITH THIS EPISODE

@ everyone who was super excited for black paladin Lance I'm so sorry for your loss,,, I definitely would have loved it but I was honestly more hopeful for red paladin Keith again, despite it being severely unlikely

Plus it does make more sense with his arc and wow Keith's somewhat patient now will wonders never cease

Ep5 [/6 a little?? These kinda blur together]
I feel like I've already covered a lot of this but that's cool

Plus,,

The Kuron Fight

oH MY FUCKING GOD –

These scenes were beautifully done, I was an absolute mess every time Keith pulled an 'I know you're in there somewhere' moment

And the flashbacks,,,

Fuck, the flashbacks,,,,,,,

I just can't handle this it was so sad and yet so amazing to see these two acting like the best brothers in the world [sorry Sheith shippers, you can keep shipping as much as you like, I just love the Broganes so much]

Black was so great as well, she's always an absolute blessing

Oh and back with the team, thank you @ Pidge for hacking the Shiro's arm virus out of the castle ship with bonus angst and thank you @ Allura for being an absolute badass and not forgiving Lotor for what he did

Have I really not mentioned the generals?? Well no update there, I fucking love them and they're the best, bless them for leaving Lotor at the last minute

Yea I'm pretty sure I've mostly covered it already

oH YEAH LOTRON [fuck it that's dumb but I'll call it that]

I dunno how to feel tbh

But I loved these fight scenes so much,,,, and Lotor slowly turning insane/into a cheesy villain,,, I loved it

Also Keith and real Shiro talking about how Shiro basically died,,, and Keith flat out saying Kuron is a clone,,,,, and the EMOTION ON KEITH'S FACE WHEN HE FOUND OUT, AND THE MOMENT WHEN HE ACTIVATED THE WINGS LIKE THE OVER THE TOP AMAZING AMINE PROTAGONIST HE IS

By the way, Coran suddenly got a tiny bit of depth??? A little bit?? Woah they really are listening to the fandom somewhat, that was pretty fun

This was the fight scene to end all fight scenes

Seeing a big cheesy mech fight a slightly weaker version of itself as Voltron was just insane

Using the rift out of nowhere was a really cool concept

aND THEN THEY TOOK OUT THE CASTLE SHIP OUT OF NOWHERE WOW SUDDENLY TEARS

Anyone who noticed the space floofs in Pidge's room in s4 was certainly rewarded, I am blessed

And it turned into a diamond,, because cheese,,,,, I love all this cheese,,,,,,,,

Wow that ending

Lance crying made me cry [like every single time he's cried in the show] and the fact that he felt guilty for not fully figuring out the Shiro problem, my heart,,,

And then Shiro got brought back anime protagonist style

Was it a smart writing decision?? I have no idea go watch an actual review

Was I conflicted? Yes

Was I happy? yES

EVERYONE WAS SO HAPPY AND I'M JUST SAME

AND WOOP WOOP EARTH IS BACK

And so, is, Allurance, which I'm surrendering to at this point

Klance being canon was never a realistic dream for me and that's okay, while I don't love the romantic bond of Allurance I'll take it over some ships [plus the fanbase around Klance makes me ashamed to ship it so – ]

In summary,,,
Allura is sad
Lance is kinda sad because it's a day that ends in y
Keith has sad whiplash
Pretty much everyone else is sad
I'm sad

This season broke me in the best way and I kinda want to go cry some more but at the same time I fucking loved it
