Katherine's POV

Five months have passed since we've moved to Forks. Five months since we've met the Cullens. Five months since Dax and I discovered our mates. Five months since we were put in danger by other vampires....Five months...since James was killed by the Cullens. And life couldn't be better. Jasper and I continue to grow close everyday. Bella and Edward were constantly together like us. Our friendship grew stronger since the danger we were in. Over the past few months, though, I've noticed that Bella has been feeling such dread. I later found out from Charlie that Bella's birthday was coming up. She's always hated birthdays according to Charlie, but I had the feeling the hate has grown because...the older she's getting...the time she feels she's losing with Edward...until he decides to turn her.

From what I've heard, Edward has claimed Bella constantly brings up the subject of turning her into a vampire and Edward is against it because he doesn't want to turn her into a monster and regret her decision years later.

In a way, I can relate to Edward. As an Elemental, immortality has its advantages, yet it has its disadvantages, too. It's a lonely life. Full of nothing but pain. But, finding my mate. Jasper. I feel things I haven't felt before in almost 10 years. I feel love.

On the day before Bella's birthday, Charlie called me and Dax to ask to get Bella a birthday gift because Bella has been a little down with the whole birthday and he thought maybe something nice could cheer her up. But, Bella doesn't like surprises or gifts. But, I think we could do something fun and nice for her. So I called Cin and Oriel for help.

I knocked on Charlie's door and he gladly opened it up for us.

"Hey, Charlie." I greeted him warmly and hug him tight.

"Shhh, Bella's still asleep." He shushes us gently and we quietly got inside the house. "So, what did you get her?" He asks softly.

"Well, since Bella said she doesn't want any money spent on her..." I pulled out some Tupperware bowls out of my bag. "We cooked breakfast." I smile.

Charlie chuckles, "She'll like that."

"We also have a little surprise to cheer her up." Dax says as he wiggles a pink balloon with 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY' splashed all over it.

"Can't wait to see that." He checks his watch. "I better go wake her up now. I gotta give her Renée's gift and mine as well."

I eye him suspiciously, "I thought Bella doesn't want any gifts?"

"Well, I'm her dad." He picks up a pink camera with a bow and a flat rectangle box. "I'm an exception." He shrugs and smiles as he heads upstairs.

I chuckle and helped everyone set the table. After we had the food laid out for Bella and Charlie we headed upstairs and hanged out in the hallway.

"...Uh, goes with this one from your mom. We coordinated. Well, she coordinated me. It's to put your pictures in, from senior year." We hear Charlie speak to Bella as we could hear paper crinkling and tear. Charlie stops to sigh in wonderment. "Senior year. How'd you get so old so fast?"

"I didn't." Bella answers quickly. "It's not that old."

"I don't know. Is that a grey hair?" Charlie asks.

I stifle my giggles as I hear Bella scramble off the bed and her feet pattering on the floor.

"No! No way!" She exclaims in disbelief but soon I hear her sigh of relief.

Charlie chuckles, "Happy Birthday."

"It's really funny." Bella scoffs but laughs.

"By, the way, Kat and her brother are here with their friends. They have a surprise for you." Charlie says.

Bella groans, "I hate surprises."

"That's what I told them." Charlie laughs and sees us approaching the door. "Come on in, guys." He gestures us to come into her room.

I step in first with Oriel, waving a balloon around with her, "Hey, Bells. Happy B-day."

"Happy birthday, Bella." Dax says and moves to hug her tight. Bella happily returns a hug.

She turns towards us with an uncomfortable look, "Kat, I..." I cut her off.

I hold my hands up in surrender,"I know. I know! You hate birthdays, and you hate surprises. But, we're doing this anyway." I smirk.

Bella frowns in confusion, "Do what?"

Dax laughs and moves to stand behind us, next to Cin and I stood next to Oriel.

"Everyone ready?" I ask. I count down with my fingers, "1, 2, 3."

At the same time, we take our balloons and suck in the helium and let the balloons go flying around, expelling foul noises around the room. Bella ducks as one almost flew in her face.

As soon as we opened our mouths, we sounded like high, squeaky chipmunks.

"For she's a jolly good fellow, for she's a jolly good fellow, for she's a jolly good fellow! Which nobody can deny!"

Bella couldn't stop the laughs escaping her mouth. She clutches her stomach as she laughs harder when we laugh in squeaky voices.

"I think I sucked too much helium." Cin says in a squeaky voice.

This time it was Charlie's turn to laugh. He wipes the tears forming in his eyes from his laughter.

"Let's go downstairs..." My voice was still squeaky. I cleared my throat and it was beginning to come back to normal. "We have something else for both of you."

Bella finally stops laughing, then groans, whining, "Kat..."

"We didn't spend a dime on you. I swear." I said and guide them both downstairs.

We follow behind as they head to the kitchen and see our breakfast laid out for them. We fixed them both a fruit salad, egg white omelets with peppers and onions with whole wheat toast. We spared Charlie and gave him a little bit of bacon. And for Bella for her birthday, strawberry yogurt, homemade.

Bella frowns in confusion as she sees a candle in the shape of a 5 stuffed in her yogurt.

"Why is that a 5?" She asks.

I smile, "Cause since you don't want to think about your birthday so much, we decided why not we just celebrate how long we've known each other? It's officially five months since we've met and moved to Forks."

Bella sighs and smiles big, "Thank you so much, Kat." She pulls me into a hug.

"Aw, no worries. We love you, Bella." I say and hug her tight.

"You're our best friend." Dax comes in and hugs her too.

"And I hope we'll be friends for a very long time, especially after we graduate." Oriel says.

Bella shudders at that idea. I knew what she was thinking. Getting older...graduating high school with Edward...She hopes and pray that Edward will turn her soon.

"Can you just feel the love?" Cin squeals and hugs us all tightly.

We groan as he hugs us too tightly, "Cin, you're crushing my spine." Oriel groans.

Jasper's POV

Today was Bella's birthday. It was all Alice could talk about today. She loves to plan any sort of event that comes up...and she tends to go overboard with it. We all helped her of course, to disrespect Alice, whew. It's not something you wish to do. Especially, with me being an Empath, I would be feeling her hurt feelings for months. We spent all night long decorating the house for Bella's party tonight. Thankfully, it's just us family and Bella...and Katherine and Dax. My smile grew wide as I start to think about Katherine. I couldn't believe it's been 5 months already since we've been dating.

During the summer, it was the best three months of my existence. We took a trip to Alaska and I introduced her to the Denali Coven. Eleazar and Carmen were a little nervous with the fact that a human was in the home of vampires, but as they smelled her unique scent, I could feel the relief from them. Eleazar was having a difficult time figuring her out. He claimed he could sense something about her, but...it was as if his abilities were blocked. Neither of them could explain it.

I snapped myself out of my thoughts as I pull up into the school parking lot. I see Edward's car and pull up next to his and get out. My breath is hitched in my throat as I see my beautiful mate strolling towards me, smiling so lovingly. I pull her into my arms and hold her close.

"How are you, my darlin'?" I ask.

"I'm missing the summer." She laughs. "But, at least I'm with you." She sighs in my arms.

"It won't be long now. We're seniors. We'll be graduating soon." I assure her.

She suddenly had a feeling of unsure and she pulls away to look at me, "Jasper, what's going to happen after we graduate? The graduation caps at your house. You repeat high school over and over. How long are you and your family are planning to stay in Forks?" She asks.

I sigh, "I think we're good for a few more years, then we'll have to leave town. Just as long as no one is suspicious about us, then we're safe."

I could feel her pain at the thought of separation, I take her into my arms and hold her close, "If the time comes, I won't leave you." I promised. I could never leave my mate.

I snap my head up as I begin to feel tension in the air. I look over and see Edward watching Bella talking to Jacob Black. One of the teenagers from the Quileute Territory. I could relate since the Quileute tribes aren't really in good terms with us, even with the whole treaty with the werewolves.

I watch Katherine look at me with curiosity and follow my gaze and sees what I see.

"Uh-oh, seems that Eddie has some competition." She laughs softly.

I laugh when I see Edward wince at that nickname.

"Come on. We have Spanish." I say and pull her into my arms gently, walking her to class.

I intertwined my fingers with hers as we walked through the halls and just...stared at her. Loving everything about her.

I looked over and see Dax and Alice coming down the stairs, meeting Bella and Edward at the bottom. Alice jumps over the rail and lands with grace, hugging Bella tightly.

"Happy birthday!" Alice says excitedly.

Bella hushed her and Alice wince with apology, then hands her a gift.

Bella frowns at her, "I thought, I told you, no presents."

Dax chuckles when Bella looks over to him, he holds up his hands in surrender, "You know my girlfriend, Bella. There's no use arguing with her."

Alice simply smiles at Bella, "I've already seen you open it and guess what? You love it! You're gonna wear it tonight, our house." Bella was about to protest, but Alice wasn't having that. "Come on, please? It will be fun."

Seeing how uncomfortable she was, I sent her a wave of comfort and calmed her nerves.

With a sigh, Bella rolls her eyes and nods, "Okay. alright."

Alice smile grows wide, "Great! Okay, I'll see you at 7:00." Alice turns and heads for Dax's arm.

I guess she realizes it was me for the reason why she felt calm because I hear her call out to me, "Jasper, no fair with the mood control thing." She frowns.

Katherine laughs in my arms and wraps hers around my waist, "Sorry, Bella." I apologize to her. "Happy..." She gives me a look that says she didn't want to hear it. So my voice trails off and I snicker softly, "Never mind."

Katherine giggles and waves at Bella as we turn to leave for class. I hear Edward laugh behind us.

"You can't trust vampires. Trust me!" He says. I roll my eyes and laugh softly, walking my love to class.

I'm so thankful that my love and I have the same classes this year. With my skills of pursuing, I did convince the receptionist who was in charge of class schedules to make the change. I smirk with a knowing look as I sit next to Katherine and hold her hand throughout the entire time in class. Such comfort I haven't felt since I've started this school. It was perfect.
