Yeaaahhhh. The video above is a great lesson about knowing procedure and terminology. In the video, 'Encino Man', Captain Craig Schwetje, has his designators wrong, his protocols wrong, and didn't understand the terminology, "Danger Close." 

The Video ends with Sergeant Tony 'Poke' Espera, saying, "I guess it pays to have the right protocols when you're calling in a fire mission."

The opening four paragraphs can be the difference in your Writing when it comes to believability versus unbelievability.

The average author would be completely stumped, much less the reader. From several rounds in #NBR, spotlighting my Novel THEO, I realize that USMC jargon is in a class of its own. Even other Arms of the Military are confused with "Jarhead - Jargon." 
It's our own language.

That is why I offer this GUIDE FOR THE AUTHOR. I am always being asked technical and tactical questions for believability, relatability, and realism for other Author's work. As a result, I offer you this!

Speaking The Language: Here's the "TERP" (interpretation) of the opening paragraphs.

"Scalp Hunter, Scalp Hunter this is Lost Boy Six-One, TIC, (troops in contact) break (indicates that his transmission hasn't concluded)...Grid to suppress, (Suppression keeps the enemy in its fighting area) Charlie Whiskey, two – two – niner... tree – seven – one. Grid to mark, (precise location of the strike to neutralize enemy threat) Charlie Whiskey two – seven – two... niner – four – seven... over."

"Scalp Hunter to Lost Boy Six-One, TIC. Grid to suppress, Charlie Whiskey, two – two – niner... tree – seven – one. Grid to mark, Charlie Whiskey two – seven – two... niner – four – seven... break. I have two A-V8 Bravo's (USMC Harrier Jet) holding twelve miles west of your position... orders to follow."
