Chapter 1

As I walk through the forest. The dead leaves and pine straw muffling every step I take. I suddenly hear a rustle of leaves over by my left ear. My body stiffens and everything goes quiet. So quiet I can hear every single beat my heart makes. The rustling of leave gets louder and closer. Soon a flash of white fur flies by my vision. And rustles now faded to my right.

"A rabbit?" I exclaim to myself

"How can that be do rabbits even come out this early in spring.

?"

To make sure I haven't lost the creature whatever it might be. So I stoop down to the ground and wait for any sign of where it might be. I wait and wait until I've thought I had lost if for good. When a rustle of leaves I breaks the silent of the forest. West of me. I quickly take my bow off my back and load it with and arrow. I creep slowly behind a tree and there I see my little rabbit friend happily munching on a bush of blueberries.

"That's it" I say to the rabbit as I pull my bow up "stay right there."

I pull the bow string back until it rest on my left cheek. Then with the "twang" of the bow and the squeak of the dying rabbit. I know I have killed it. I lift the rabbit up and placed it in my hand and smiled and weighed it in my hand.

"Hmm" I say to the dead rabbit. "You're a fat one aren't you?"       

I stuff the rabbit into my bag and continued hunting. By what I expect to be 7:30 judging by the position of the sun; I have caught 4 more chubby rabbits and 6 chubby squirrels and a strong amount of nuts, and plants, and I carry them to the Elf portal (I mean I could climb the tree but I don't really want to.) I then stash my bow and arrows in a dead log. And walk up to the portal and within a second I am gazing out at the camp. Most people are still asleep since jobs and school doesn't start until eleven but those of us who hunt wake up earlier. I scurry around the camp to my hut. Climb through the window and fall into my bed room. I then hide my hunting bag and bath off the smell of the woods off my body and out of my hair. I had just finished getting dressed when suddenly I hear a knock on my window.

"Psst" I hear a whisper at my window "E are you there?"

"C" I whisper back "Is that you?"

He doesn't even answer he just hops in through the window. Once I see that it is in fact my dumb brother Cable. I scoff and turn to the mirror and begin to tie my hair in a piece cow leather.

"You know you can come through the door?" I say to him as I turn to the mirror. "It is your home."

"Aww E but what fun is in that?"

I turn to scowl at him but I turn to see him grinning like an idiot. I smile and turn away. I hate him well I mean I love him but I honestly don't know whether it is because he is my brother or because of something else. But either way I love him and that's all I need to know. I finish putting up my hair and hand him the game bag. He looks at me shocked.

"E" he says pretending to be offended "I thought we only went hunting with each other."

I turn and look at him. "Well you were sleeping and well you know all babies need their sleep."

"Well" He say computing what I had just said "Then why aren't you in bed." He says with a smile.I scoff and finish getting ready. Once have finished its 9:30 that gives us enough time to drop of the food at the food storage to fill our food quota (for if we don't we'll run out of meat just like we did this winter) Anyway we get to the door of the hut Cable smiles down at me and ask me.

"Wanna ride?"

I nod my head. He then heaves me up on to his shoulders and we walk to the food storage facility. And there in the door way in charge of food count is the second biggest asshole in the entire camp and son of Chief Tavenious is Echo. As we walk up Cable puts me down as Echo yells cheerfully.

"Yo-Yo big C in the house"

"Yo-Yo E-man himself" Cable yells just as cheerfully.

They then exchange the complicated series of handshakes, high fives, fist bumps and pretend explosions. Cable did try to teach me how to do their unnecessarily complicated handshake but I didn't much for it. It makes him happy and therefore it makes me happy and that is all that matters.

"Aww" Echo says "And lookie here is little E"

He says as he rubs my hair which loosen the piece of cow leather that was holding up my hair. I watch as it falls to the floor. My face heats up like the burning sun.

"DAMN YOU ECHO. NOW I HAVE TO FIX IT UP AGAIN." I yell at him. "AND YOU CALL ME ELLA LIKE EVERYONE FUCKING ELSE."

He moves back pretending to be offended

"E I thought we were friends." He burst out laughing.

I had just finished tying my hair back up (tighter this time so it won't fall out) and spun around to Echo whom is still laughing. I wish he was dead. I wish right now I had my bow and arrows with me for I would love to do nothing more than to sink one into stupid neck. But all I can do is think deadly thoughts, let my face turn bright red, and clench my fist at my sides. Cable must be reading my body language because he quickly hands Echo the food, exchange the unnecessarily complicated handshake, grabs my hand and we quickly went out. It a good 20 minute walk from the food storage facility to my class. When we get there I quickly go stone cold. Cable bends down and put his hands on my shoulders and says to me:

"E what's wrong?"

I roughly brush away a tear. I refuse to cry in front of the other kids.

"E?" Cable says more concerned

"I don't want be here. I hate this place. I wanna be a warrior like you." I say babbly

"I know, but you know that's just not how things run around here."

"I know, I know, it's just, I mean I just" I fumble over my words

"It's just what E?" Cable ask

"I just" I begin to move on the verge of tears

Cable then pulls me into a big and tight embrace. This is when I allow one tear to fall from each eye. I then pull out and clean my face. And I look down hiding my face from him.

"Hey E look at me." Cable calls for my attention

I refuse to look at him.

"Hey E look at me." He calls again

This time I look up at him.

"How about this" He starts "this afternoon when I come to pick you up me and you we'll go down to the forest and have a brother and sister fun day" he smiles

While I truly think it is a stupid idea but it would mean I would get to spend time with Cable so I brighten up and say:

"You mean it?" I say shyly

"I do mean it" He replies

"Head promise?" I ask him

"Head promise" he says back with a smile

This is when he and Ihit our heads together. We do this for the pain reminds us and it will alwaysremind us. Cable then smiles and gives me one more, great big hug, stands upand leaves. I watch him walk away and once he's down the hill and is out ofsight I begin to walk to my mage class prepared for a super boring day.
