❛ Just one single glimpse of relief
to make some sense of what you've seen

Epiphany, Taylor Swift

Scene One

      (1987. Camp Jupiter, San Francisco.)
(Hushed voices grow increasingly irritated as praetor MICHAEL VARUS argues with UNKNOWNS.)

UNKNOWN. (Nervously.) Michael, you have to understand how dangerous this is. That prophecy isn't about you.

MICHAEL. You don't know that.

UNKNOWN.  I do, Michael. I'm the augur here. I would've seen something— anything that would tell me that this prophecy is made for you, but there's nothi—

(MICHAEL holds up hand; UNKNOWN falls silent.)

MICHAEL.  I'm going on this quest, and I'm taking the legion with me. We leave in three days.

(Exit MICHAEL, leaving UNKNOWN dumbfounded as they stand at the altar. The fire blazes dangerously, as if confirming UNKNOWN'S fears.)

End of Scene One

Hubris. Pride. Kleos.

Call it what you want. It doesn't matter when it all means one thing: certain death. Everybody wants to believe that they're special, that something about them is different. When your parents are gods, it's easy to convince yourself. When you're the praetor of Camp Jupiter, feeling special is second nature. Michael Varus is certain an uncovered prophecy is calling his name, and despite every warning, takes a group of heroes from the Twelfth Legion across the world to the land beyond the gods.

This apply fiction is based off of Percy Jackson & the Olympians and the Heroes of Olympus by Rick Riordan. The story told is originally Rick's, and I've decided to expand on that and detail the journey of the first quest for the prophecy of seven! All worldbuilding belongs to Rick Riordan, as well as the character Michael Varus.

Content Warnings : this book will contain graphics topics such as gore, major character death, grief, disturbing descriptions, vivid nightmares, and heavy angst.
Read and apply at your own risk. Note that I will be putting trigger warnings that the next chapter may include in the author's notes.

Rules, forms, & applications on the next chapter <3
