Erma had always believed she was an only child.She always wondered what it would be like to have an older sister or brother.She did notice her mother tended to weep from time to time,and when Erma asks whats wrong,Emiko tries to dodge the question.

Derek is a 15 year old who lives in the same neighborhood as Erma.He lived with his mother.He had wondered who his father was,because his mom had always said he died in a car accident shortly before Derek was born.He believed he took after his father,because he didn't really look like his mother.He had short jet black hair,which covered his left eye,pail white skin,unusual eyes.He wears a black t-shirt,black jeans shorts,a white buttoned hoodie,and black sneakers.He doesn't have any friends,because his mother,who home schooled him,wouldn't let him go outside.She always says its because she didn't want him mixed in with the wrong crowd.While he did understand this,he did get very annoyed and wanted to make some friends.One night,he sneaked out of his bedroom to get some fresh air.He met and befriended Felica,Erma's babysitter.They become good friends,and hung out occasionally.Derek always managed to sneak back in before his mother found out.At times,Derek noticed Felica seemed a bit distracted when they hanged out,but shrugged it off.But one fateful night,both the lives of him,and Erma,will change forever.
