"Pass the pickles, will ya, Kaylee?" Kade asks me with a mouth full of hamburger.

I nod and hand the jar to him.

"Thanks."

All nine of us were sitting outside eating dinner. (Well, the Bots weren't since, ya know, they can't eat, but you get the idea.)

"So, today was... Event full." My dad says as he turned off the grill and started to make his cheeseburger the way he likes it -- two pickle chips, cheese, ketchup, mustard, tomatoes and an onion slice -- "But all in all, good work today team."

"I'm just glad to not have to sing anymore." Kade says.

"Same." Heatwave adds.

"You know, out of all the songs we somehow ended up singing, there's one that has been stuck in my head the entire time." I say, stabbing my fork into the macaroni salad.

"What one was that?" Dani asks.

"Remember that song Grammy always sang as a lullaby when we spent the week at her house on the mainland?"

"Vaguely." Graham answers. "Grammy sang a lot of old songs. Like that one she sang at the dinner table. What was it called?"

"A Health to The Company." Dani answered. "That one used to be my favorite."

"I'm talking about the one where it was about the family tree."

"Families have trees?" Blades asks.

"Not literal trees, Blades." I say, turning around to look at him. "It's a metaphor to show how big a family is. Who's related to who."

"You don't have to be related to one other to have the same family tree." My dad adds.

Blades looked curious. "How did the song go?"

"Is it okay if I sing it, Dad?" I ask.

He nods.

I started it.

Then Dad, Dani and Graham joined in.

I looked at Kade while we sang the last line and gave him my "Please?" face.

And I got him to join.
"Our family tree grows safe and deep and sound."
