As part of observing National Poetry Month in April, I uploaded each poem from Excavations to my Instagram page. The stanzas were superimposed on the sort of illustration tiles I make to promote my novel, Ancilla. 

I originally had all the illustrations published in Excavations. The illustrations looked awkward as separations between stanzas when I had multiple illustrations for poems, so I put the "extra" illustrations at the bottom of the page when a poem had more than one illustration. 

That was still awkward and sloppy, but I didn't know what to do about it.

After much thought, I have decided to give the illustrations pages of their own. The lettering on the "Instagram editions" is part of the art, and should be experienced as such. If I knew how to make a graphic novel out of these illustration tiles, I would do so, and then self-publish them in a book.

Due to the way Wattpad formats things, it may be difficult to read the lettering without squinting, for which I apologize. 

I dedicate this illustrated "Instagram edition" of Excavations to Dave McKean, whose cover art and illustrated comic book panels for DC Vertigo have influenced me profoundly. Words cannot express my gratitude enough.
