[WRITING] A STEADY WRITING ROUTINE

I haven't written anything in over a month. It feels weird. Especially since I've had a steady writing routine for years now. Years.

As a consequence, my body still wakes up for that routine and I am not sure if I want to reteach it how to follow a normal schedule deserving of a mortal biped but here we are.

Thinking back to 'how'd I get here' doesn't have a clear answer in the mind's eye. It was slow and gradual but one thing stood out--consistency.

Throwaways

Doing anything at a constant will become second-nature. I started out easy, writing 'throwaways.' These are things I don't intend to keep. They are just there to whet the blade, so to speak.

Mornings
If there is one bit of advice I can give you, I recommend writing in the mornings. Sleep early, and write early.

Set
Consider picking a set time when you will sit down and mostly stare at the screen begging your fingers to move on their own and some how do any smidgen of magic. It won't work, of course, but one day, you'll sit down and realize, "Oh crap. I'm doing it!"

Notes
I've never been good with memos or notes. Once I write the idea down, be it in shorthand or otherwise, it's GONE from me. As such, I hold onto it til I get a chance to start writing. I also try not to think too deeply into the idea as that has the same effect.

While the house is ablaze with chatter or so quiet that even the dead don't speak, whichever you choose, stick with it.
