Day of the Coronation

Frisk swiftly fell down on the cushion of fresh, untainted snow beneath her. She had attempted to grab Sans's jacket to steady herself but failed and dragged him down as well. The two landed side by side, temporarily engraving their figures into the snow. Within seconds it had already began to melt and seep into their clothing; however, neither of them made an effort to move.

After a few moments of silence, the skeleton began to feel worry grow in the pit of his non-existent stomach. Before she had fallen, there was a sickened expression on her face. One that he had never seen before. One he didn't want to see.

"you okay kid?" Sans asked, tilting his head towards her.

No response.

"kid?" He called in a more urgent tone.

No response.

This worried the skeleton enough to hop to his feet and lean over Frisk's motionless body. He reached for her wrist to see if he could at least identify a pulse.  After a few worried seconds, he felt a small, rhythmic beat. She was still there at least.

A wave of relief coursed through his bones as he sighed and plopped down in the snow beside her to take a closer look.

Just as he was about to call out to her again, a quick movement from Frisk resulted in Sans, whose face was now covered in snow, on his back; And Frisk, who was currently straddling him in victory.

As soon as he had gotten the snow off of his face, it immediately shifted to a flustered blue.

He stuttered in attempts to ask about their current position, but his emotions remained oblivious to the still proud Frisk.

"Hah Sans! I finally got you back!" The girl said, crossing her arms and allowing a smug yet cheerful expression to form on her face.

"back for what, kid?"

Before she had a chance to complain about the multiple times Sans had pulled some kind of stupid, yet somehow crafty trick on her- let alone the silence treatment she had been receiving lately, a towering shadow covered the both of them and blocked the sun from view.

"Excuse me for asking," A deep tone said from behind, "but what are you doing?"

Frisk let out a startled cry and quickly removed herself from Sans. Meanwhile the skeleton also  scooted further away to create some distance, hoping whoever saw wouldn't get the wrong idea.

He couldn't have been more wrong.

Asriel stood above the both of them, an irritated scowl showing through the innocent act he always put on in front of Frisk.

"Big brother? Shouldn't you be getting ready?" The brunette asked innocently.

"I was on my way to pick you up actually. And now that I have you, we're going." He murmured tersely.

"But Sans and I were-"

"I don't care." He snapped.

Frisk was taken aback by his sharp tone. She didn't understand why he was so upset with her- and Sans for that matter. What had they done wrong? Was he mad because they left the house? She just couldn't wrap her head around it.

Asriel was silent the whole way back to Toriel's. Frisk's feelings of curiosity about the situation quickly turned to concern. The side of her brother was completely foreign to her. He had never treated her wrongly in anyway, even if she deserved it.

As the entrance of their house approached, Frisk sped up; unsure if it was because she wanted to be in her own home again, or if it was get away from Asriel.

Just as she grabbed at the brass door handle, she felt something pull her back.

"Asriel?"

"I'm sorry. I lost my cool back there when I shouldn't have. I just... worry... that one day something will happen to you that I won't be able to prevent."

He had an unreadable expression on his face, one she had never seen before. It seemed like he had been doing that to her a lot today.

Frisk broke away from his grasp and quickly wrapped both of her arms of around him. The coronation must've been stressing him out. She couldn't exactly blame him for his behavior, but the way he was treating Sans appeared to be off. Like he had done something to him personally. Yet another thing that didn't make sense.

But just for today. She let it slide. Everyone was supposed to be celebrating him today- there was no time for pointless conflict.

"Trust me big brother, as long as you're around, I think I'll be safest person in the Underground." Frisk giggled.

"And how do you know that?" Asriel asked, unsure if he was taking her statement as a joke or genuine.

"Because love is the strongest bond out there, isn't it?"

He was speechless as his little sister stood before, beaming with excitement and loyalty.

Surely, one day... He would make this little princess his queen.

(I will try to have the next chapter out relatively soon. Once again, I apologize for this long wait.)
