She envied her.

Ruby wore her robe over her naked body, the cloth with the color of dark blood hung loosely on her well-sculpted body and white, milky skin.

She envied her beauty.

Standing, the woman leaned and planted a kiss on the man resting on the other side of the bed. Her smiling lips slightly opened to display sharp fangs.

She envied her power.

The man also stood up. He placed one large hand on Ruby's shoulder to pull her in as his other hand guided her head toward his neck.

She envied her sister.

Ruby's eyes widened as she sank her teeth deep into his skin and drank the thick liquid from the man she had seduced and just made love with.

She envied her.

But she won't anymore.

Ruby exited the room after an enchantment was cast upon her and she had made another round of lovemaking with the man. Dressed in her favorite nightgown, the vampiress, then, strolled along the empty halls of the castle of her older sister, Luna, the beautiful, powerful, and wise ruler of all the land. Or so they believed. They didn't know that she was not clever enough. No. And pretty soon everybody would realize it.

The gigantic wooden doors leading to the queen's throne room opened. Luna was seated at her golden royal seat. She was dressed in the finest white silk with gold embroidered in beautiful vine patterns. She welcomed her sister with open arms. "Have you done it?"

"Of course," Ruby replied. She handed the queen a vial with thick red liquid. "Drink it and you'll be stronger."

Luna held the bottle towards the candlelight, inspecting it as if she was an expert on what was inside. "Is it that simple? Doesn't it need an enchantment? Well, Death isn't a witch like us. His blood may not need to have a spell upon it to make it potent -- a source of overwhelming power." She hugged her sister tightly. "We'll be stronger soon, my pet. You the bat witch, a vampire who obtained special abilities by performing spells over bats, and I, the wolf witch, the queen who successfully acquired the prowess of wolves, the both of us will forever change the history of the nation-- no! The world! First, I will gain insurmountable strength and immortality, then I will grant you more power than you have." She patted the vampiress' cheek. "We will get what we both deserve, pet."

"Of course. What we deserve." Ruby smiled as she looked at the vial intently. "Drink now. Do not let power wait."

"Yes, sister." In a swift move, the werewolf queen opened the bottle and gulped the liquid inside it. Instantly, she felt the fluid travel to every inch of her body. A new type of power surged within her and consumed her from the inside. Her gut and her throat burned. Her head bent upward in a motion she could not control, forcing her to look at the window on the ceiling showing the bright, glowing full moon. A different, fearful sensation thrummed inside her.

What was happening to her?

Slowly, the powerful Luna started to transform into her beastly form out of her will. She looked back at her sister. "Ruby? W-what is this?"

"Don't worry, you won't lose consciousness. It's just the transformation that you cannot control. Every full moon."

"What you made me drink... You cursed me!" Luna approached the vampiress and hissed.

Ruby hissed back. "You've always been the perfect one. Luna, the beautiful. Luna, the stronger one. Luna, the older. Luna, the queen. I am tired and sick of just being the lesser one. I am sick of being your pet! Now I'll be the better!"

The werewolf was now fully in her beast form. She sniffed the other creature. "You, traitor! You seduced Death and didn't just take his blood. You drank it yourself!"

"Yes. And after an enchantment, I was the one who received power and immortality. I am now stronger than you. I am more fit to be queen!" With her new strength, she held Luna's throat in a tight grip. The werewolf wasn't backing down. She used one of her large paws to strike the vampiress. Ruby used her other hand to catch the paw. "You cannot defeat me now, sister." She spat the last word with disgust.

Luna roared. "I didn't know you hated me so much, little sister."

"I did. And I still do. So let's not call each other that anymore." She threw the werewolf against the wall. "We are no longer sisters."

Before she could strike again, Luna was already on her feet. She used enough strength to jump toward the nearest window. "I will never forgive you!" Blinded by rage, she shouted. She just lost and knew that she'd never be allowed in the castle anymore. Everything was taken away from her. She couldn't win now. But, someday, she might. There should be a weakness to Ruby's acquired power. Death would not so easily give her that without anything in return. She needed to know. She would know. And she would defeat her. But not now. Someday. "I swear that, if I am unable to, my next kin, the line of the werewolves, will be the ones to kill and defeat you and your kind!"

"Then, it's a war, because my kin and I will hunt your kind until the last of you is dead."

Luna jumped out of the window with a roar.

Stunned by what she had finally done, Ruby remained inside the throne room for a long while. She had usurped her sister and she was now queen.

The sun showed itself, shining its rays through every window. And as it touched Ruby's skin, her flesh burned.

Why?

Then Ruby realized what was the payment for her immortality.

Since then, the castle was plunged into darkness and the never-ending fight between the vampires and the werewolves began.
