One of the best things about being able to host this contest is finding new, up and coming authors to feature from month to month. Upon meeting Ana back in May (of last year? How is it 2019 already?), I could tell from the get go that she had a talent worth sharing with the world. I couldn't have been more excited to have her as the featured author for June 2018.

From that point forward, I kept in touch with Ana and was there to watch as she grew from the first installment in her 'Winter Has Come' series to the second, along with the other stand-alone ventures she took throughout the year. Even within this short amount of time between her initial feature and today, she's already come so far in her writing. Not only has she worked so hard to get her name out there, but she holds herself to a higher standard - being professional and yet kind enough to keep up a friendly conversation - one that I knew would give her an edge when I was going through submissions for the yearly feature.

I have no doubt that this incredible author will continue to amaze not only me, but all of you. Here's to an incredible year with Ana as our Featured Author for 2019!

How did publishing your first book (On Wattpad or otherwise) change you as an author?
Publishing on Wattpad has made me realise so many things. First of all, how many wonderful writers there are out there. There's a sheer number of writers on Wattpad who are all kind and who all have uniqueness if you just probe even a little into their depths. I've met many great friends on Wattpad who are authors as well as readers, and this has changed my perception of writing. It's not a thing to do alone sitting at your desk in your bedroom. No, it's a social event where people are incredibly supportive of each other.

If you could tell your younger writing self anything, what would it be?
Don't linger around that publish button; just press it!! Once you've put yourself out there, you'll realise that there are so many opportunities!

What was your hardest scene to write? How did you work through it?
Oh, I have more than one scene. Probably the scenes of my sequel, Winter Went, that come after around Chapter 12. I spent so much time lounging around trying to come up with something that would work but I never actually got any writing done. Big mistake. But luckily I plonked myself down and told myself to plan out the story. Eventually from there it started moving forward.

What do you think writing on Wattpad has done for you?
It's made me more confident in myself as an author and as a person in general. When you see someone else enjoying something that you put your heart and soul into, there's never a better feeling.

Has winning Featured Author changed you or your writing process? Would you do it again if you had the chance?
I would certainly do it again. Little did I know that I was going to be coming back a few months later! It's made me more assured in my writing and wanting to get my chapters out there sooner!

What advice would you give to other authors entering this contest?
Just do it. Seriously. You've got a shot. Now take it.
