(Modern AU)

Cherry blossoms had already sprouted through the trees and here I am, walking my way towards school. I watch other students laugh as they chat with their friends. As for me, I'm just a loner. With no one at my side. I was really lucky that I've survived middle school.

I've entered the school and my surroundings just became more noisy than earlier. But then, I stopped my tracks when I bumped on a person. And that person was none other than Gray Fullbuster, one of the greatest basketball players of our school. With that, I was shocked and scared at the same time.

Oh god.... please don't make a scene...

"Are you going to just close your eyes all day or are you going to say sorry to me? You do realize you stained my uniform with your coffee...?" He said with a stern, cold tone.

Oh wait. I forgot that I brought coffee with me... I'm so dead...

"I'm sorry... It's just that I didn't notice you there and-" I was about to continue my sentence but he cut me off...

"Then next time, watch where you'll be going. You're lucky that I wasn't holding any school papers." With that, he left with one of the most popular girls, Lucy. Lucy gave me a pitiful look.

Then a hand gently held my shoulder. It was Erza, the one and only Erza Scarlet. "I'm really sorry about him. He's just a hothead sometimes. You're Juvia Lockser right?"

"Yeah." I said.

"Well then, since you look so lonely every time, why don't you join us every lunch and study time?" She said. I became sad when she emphasizes the word 'lonely'

"Is it really okay with you guys...? I mean all of you are popular and-"

"Of course It's okay. Besides... who cares if we are popular? You need a friend Juvia and we will be there for you." Natsu said. He is right.

"Oh okay. I'll join you guys." I said happily with a smile.

"We should get to class then? Mr. Hofferson would be mad when he sees that we're late." Erza exclaimed.

"For our science project, I would be assigning partners. For this project, the two of you would be doing an experiment that was never done before. So here are the partners." Mr. Hofferson said.

Oh gosh... I hope that I would be partnered up with someone responsible...

"Okay... so Lucy will be with Natsu, Freed will be with Kagura, Mira will be with Laxus, Erza will be with Jellal........ and Gray will be with Juvia. So class... I want you all to work together for this project. That's all for today."

"She'll be my partner...? Can it just be Lucy or whatsoever?" Gray exclaimed.

Then, the bell rang.

I began to fix all my things and put them at my bag. I was just about to leave when someone suddenly grabbed my arm.

"Let's walk our way together towards the canteen. We need to talk about the project." He said seriously. I looked at his eyes.

His eyes were black and as you stare at it... you can get lost as if you are drowning in a sea of darkness. My trance was broken when I realized we're already walking at the corridors.

We passed by the garden since we need to go across it in order to reach the canteen. The clouds are grey and it seems like it's going to rain.

"We'll work on our project at my place so go there at 5pm and don't be late. If you're late... You're going to face consequences." He said.

5:15 pm... I know that I am already late and godd.... I'm so dead. He said that I would be facing some consequence but what can I do... I was stuck in a downpour with no umbrella so I'm sure he would understand.

I knock at his door and a young girl opened it. I suddenly became flustered because this little girl in front of me might think that I'm his girlfriend...

"Onii-channnn!!! Your girlfriend is hereee!!!" She shouts.

Knew it.

"I'll be down in a sec!" I hear Gray from upstairs.

He suddenly went down the stairs wearing a V-neck and some sweatpants. He's such a hottie.... Sh*t Juvia...! Stop it or else... the situation might get worse...

I didn't notice that I was staring at him until my thoughts were cut off by the little girl. "Onii-chan, she looks wet from the rain.... you should help her out."

"Right..." he said as he grabbed my hand and took me upstairs. His house is quite big and I'm sure that I could get lost in here.

He opened a door and it was a door to his bedroom. His bedroom is all blue... like mine except that it is dark blue.

"Since you're wet and all... change into my clothes first. After that, we will start with our project. Bathroom is that way." He said, pointing to another door in his room.

I was about to walk in it but I stopped. "Um... won't your girlfriend be jealous once she knows that you lend me your clothes... ? Because... I don't want to fight with her."

"Uh no... because I don't have one" with that, I cut him off and went to the bathroom. I thought Lucy was his girlfriend...

After changing my clothes, we started on our project right away. We decided to make a robot that can do simple household chores. It's kinda hard but... it will be worth it.

As we were working on the project, I looked at the window. It was still raining and at this hour... people would usually be stuck in a downpour. To be honest, I always wanted to be kissed in the rain like some cliché movie.

I was back to the reality when I realized that he was trying to connect a wire to another wire which was wrong... I warned him.

"Okay... don't do anything and don't connect those. It could create a wrong circuit which can cause a-" I was too late.

The robot began to spark and some parts became detached. The robot released a black smoke. We both looked shocked.

"Oh no..." I said.

"What do you mean 'oh no'? Go ahead and fix it." He said in a stern tone.

I shook my head. "I'm sorry Gray but ... we have to start making the robot again."

He facepalmed. "But this is due next week. Don't be such a stupid person, Juvia!" He said which made me very sad.

I stood up and immediately leave the room. I can't believe that he called me 'stupid'. Why do he always thinks that he is smart...? It was his fault anyway...

I went outside the house and again... I was hit by the downpour again. I was about to call the cab when someone grabbed my arm. It was him.

"Juvia... I didn't mean to-"

"What!?! You didn't mean to call me stupid? God... you know what, you need to learn to respect a person too..." I said. "Why do you always act like a perfectionist?" I added.

There was no reply.

I walked towards the gate but he suddenly speak. "Because I don't want to look like a dumb*ss to the girl I love. And Juvia... you are the girl I love."

I stopped on my tracks. My tears were already mixed with the rain and I couldn't help but cry . Can't believe my crush would say those things.

"If words can't make you see how much I love you then... at least, let me show you."

With that, we closed the space between us... The rain was still ongoing and raindrops keep on pouring above us.
