QUOTE #23

I do not have the proper words to describe how much I love this quote. I also think that this picture is simply perfect for it.

When you're little, and don't know about the harsh workings of the world, everything is magical. You can strap on a pair of five dollar wings and suddenly you're a fairy or a butterfly or bird. If you tried you could even fly.

Nothing is impossible, because you don't allow it to be so.

But everyone has to grow up eventually, and with growing up you learn more about life and the world and what you can and cannot do. Gone are the five dollar wings that were once so magical, because now you see them as what they truly are: cheap plastic and material sown together in some factory.

And that's the way it should be.

It's important to gain knowledge and to grow as individuals. We can't spend our entire lives believing that we're mystical creatures. We can't start jumping off walls and buildings because we say we can fly when we wear our magical wings.

The problem is, along the way we lose too much. We not only lose our naivety, we also lose our confidence and our belief in ourselves as individuals.

When you're four years old and go to the pool you don't care who sees you in a bathing suit, because what your body looks like doesn't matter as long as you can swim and eat ice cream. Making friends when you're five is simple and easy, because nobody isn't already your fiend. Being yourself at six isn't a constant battle, because nobody judges you, and most importantly, you don't judge yourself.

It's so strange when you think about it, that the more years we spend as ourselves the less self-assured we get. Shouldn't it be the opposite?

Shouldn't we be more comfortable in our own skin the older we get, and not less?

Shouldn't we get braver as we age?

Everyone is always so scared of failure, of falling on their faces, that they never even try.

What if Einstein never tried to solve a math equation because he was afraid he'd get the answer wrong?

What if Leonardo DaVinci never painted because he was afraid he'd make a mistake?

What if Mozart never played the piano because he was afraid he'd press the wrong key?

What if the Wright brother's never tried to fly, because they were afraid that they'd fall?

You will never succeed if you don't at least try.
