Lizzy hesitated as she opened the door. Her hand opened it slowly. When she entered the room, she took a long look around and gasped.

It was her first visit to the Lost and Found room. Her friends had told stories of how big the place was, but she never knew that it would be that big. The shelves were so tall that they almost touched the ceiling, and there were so many of them. Lizzy walked in between the towering shelves and was amazed by the variety of things that were kept there: brightly colored bags, books historical and modern, high-tech gadgets, glittery jewelry, unlaundered clothes, and many more. Some things were so attractive that she was tempted to steal them. What caught her eye the most was a wallet.

The wallet was colored black and made out of leather. From its texture, she could tell that it wasn't cheap. She took a closer look. It was branded. She picked it up and took a peek inside. Inside the wallet was a lottery ticket and more than two hundred dollars in cash. She looked around. There was no one. She looked up at the ceiling and glanced at the corners. There were no CCTV cameras. She hastily put the wallet in her bag and ran home.

The first thing that Lizzy did when she reached her house was to run upstairs to her bedroom and close the door behind her. She looked greedily at the wallet. She had enough money to buy those earrings she always wanted, that lottery ticket might win a million dollars, and she could sell the wallet on eBay for a good price. Lizzy held the banknotes and rubbed them together, enjoying the sound and feel of printed money. She began counting the banknotes. Five dollars, ten dollars, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty...

"Hey Liz!" her elder brother called out. She managed to hide the wallet before he could open the door.
"Hey Liz," he said, "have you seen my wallet?"
"I don't know what your wallet looks like," she said.
"It's a Giorgio Armani wallet, made out of black leather. It has a lottery ticket and at least two hundred bucks inside."
"Haven't you checked the Lost and Found?" she asked.
"I did," he replied, "but I couldn't find it. The guy said that someone else probably took it because it was there before I came."
"Well then I don't know. I haven't seen it," she lied. Her brother left her room right after that.

Lizzy retrieved the wallet from her drawer. Should she give it back? She knew what would probably happen if she did: he'd get angry at her, call her a thief and liar, as well as tell an exaggerated version of the story to their parents. What would happen if she didn't? She'd be able to buy what she wanted and get a huge sum of money. She decided not to. She kept the wallet back in her drawer. She slept happily that night, dreaming about all the money that she would earn.

The next day brought her a surprise. Lizzy was about to go to school when she almost forgot the wallet. She ran back to her room and opened the drawer. It wasn't there. Oh no, she thought. She searched her room. Nothing. The color drained from her body the moment she realized that it wasn't there.

"Looking for this, Liz?" her brother asked. She looked behind. He was holding the wallet in his hand, waving it in front of her.
"Hey look! You found your wallet! I wonder where you found it, eh?" she said. He shook his head at her.
"You know where I found it. Now hurry up. We have to leave for school."

The two of them went down the stairs and went to the school bus stop. The bus arrived on time. While they were boarding the bus, Lizzy's brother spotted a twenty-dollar bill. He picked it up and put it in his pocket. The bus left a few minutes after everyone got on it.

"Hey bro, have you seen my allowance? I think I dropped it at the bus stop," Lizzy asked.
"How much is your allowance, again?"
"I brought a twenty-dollar bill but I can't find it in my pocket."
"Well, I don't know where it is. Maybe you left it somewhere," he lied convincingly. When she looked away from him, he tapped his pocket and smiled.
