"You need to work on your catching." Stormkit teased, twitching her ears playfully. Flowerkit snorted and reached over, pulling the moss ball back over to her nest using her claw.

"You try catching when you can't stand up." Flowerkit retorted and batted the ball back over to her sister who caught it with ease and stuck out her tongue. Flowerkit rolled her eyes, but couldn't help but laugh.

Flowerkit had been in the medicine cat den with her injured ankle for four moons, a lot longer than Feathernose first intended. He had originally thought that her injury was just a sprain, but learned that it was actually broken. This discovery was made at Flowerkit's own expense when she tried to stand up and pain shot through her leg.

However, not even broken bones took this long to heal and Flowerkit was starting to become concerned. It just a few days, she would be six moons old but her leg still wasn't fully healed. It hurt to walk and if she couldn't walk how could she be an apprentice? Flowerkit held her fears from Stormkit, but part of was really scared that her leg would never properly heal.

Flowerkit heard pawsteps and looked up to see Honeypaw, Feathernose's apprentice. During Flowerkit's time in the medicine cat den she had become pretty good friends with Honeypaw. Honeypaw was made an apprentice when Flowerkit was barely a moon old, but the she-cat had always been nice.

"Hello, Stormkit." Honeypaw nodded at Flowerkit's sister, Stormkit looked up at Honeypaw with interest in her eyes.

"Hi, Honeypaw. Do you know when Flowerkit will be let out of here? We're supposed to become apprentices soon." Stormkit questioned. Honeypaw visibly tensed and began avoiding Stormkit's gaze, shuffling through some herbs.

"Well, Stormkit." Honeypaw's voice shook slightly. "That's for Feathernose to say, not me. I'm just an apprentice so I really can't tell you."

Stormkit's ears twitched and she looked over at Flowerkit. "Can you walk?" She asked, her gaze intense.

Flowerkit had tried the day before, only to be met with the same pain. I could I try. Flowerkit began standing up, but the moment she placed her injured leg on the floor, pain shot through. She quickly stopped and flopped down in her nest. "No." Flowerkit mewed, feeling and sounding defeated. What happens if I can't become an apprentice? She closed her eyes and flattened her ears.

She heard a sad sigh from Stormkit, but more pawsteps were approaching the medicine cat den. Flowerkit opened her eyes and lifted her head to see the gray fur of her father, Stonewhisker. Her spirits instantly lifted as she saw her father. His amber eyes looked at his two daughters with love. "How are you feeling, Flowerkit?"

"Her leg is still broken!" Stormkit complained. "I thought it was a medicine cat's job to heal cats, and yet Flowerkit still can't walk! Our apprentice ceremony is only a few days."

"Stormkit," Stonewhisker nudged Stormkit. "You're being rude. It is a medicine cat's job to heal but they can't perform miracles. Flowerkit's ankle will heal with time, if we try and force it then her leg could be permanently injured. She'll be healed in time."

"In a few days?" Her blue eyes still held onto hope.

Stonewhisker sighed. "Perhaps, but don't keep your hopes up. We just need to allow Flowerkit to heal."

Flowerkit felt guilty, Stormkit was really upset with the fact that she might not be able to become an apprentice on time and Flowerkit was upset about it too. Would Foxstar postpone Stormkit's apprenticeship too? I wouldn't want that. Flowerkit rested her chin on her paws, she hoped that her leg would heal soon, but she doubted that it would happen in just a few days.

Stonewhisker looked over at Flowerkit, catching her eye. "As for you," He padded over to Flowerkit's nest and rested his tail across her shoulders. "You keep your head up, I know it's hard being stuck in here but you'll be out of here before you know it."

Flowerkit felt slightly cheered up by her father's words, but there was still something bugging her. She was terrified of dragging Stormkit behind, she didn't want her sister to have to sacrifice her own apprentice ceremony because of her injury. "I'll try." Flowerkit responded, hoping to make her father happy. He didn't seem totally convinced, and neither did Stormkit. Flowerkit had to stay happy, and she had to make sure that Stormkit would be having her apprentice ceremony even if it was without her.

Flowerkit sat up in her nest, testing her ability to stand up. It wasn't easy, pain still spread through her body if she tried to stand on all fours. It wasn't as bad, but it was too much to stand. She sighed and stared at her paws, she could walk around but not without a heavy limp.

"I'm sorry, Flowerkit." A sad voice came from across the medicine cat den, Flowerkit looked up at Feathernose was sorting herbs. "I wish I could do more, but if you become an apprentice today you really won't be able to do much training. You'll have to wait." His green eyes were filled with sadness.

Flowerkit sat back down. "It's okay, Feathernose." She sighed sadly. "It's not your fault, I know you and Honeypaw are doing your best."

"The only good news I can provide is that it is getting better. The swelling has gone down a lot in the past moon, perhaps by next moon it will be healed enough for you to become an apprentice." Feathernose explained, which did make Flowerkit feel a little bit better, but it still didn't give her what she wanted now.

"Flowerkit!" Normally, Stormkit' mew brought her joy and excitement but now it made her heart drop into her paws. She had to tell Stormkit that she would not be made an apprentice today. Stormkit burst into the medicine cat den, her blue eyes filled with excitement. "It's almost time for the ceremony. Did Feathernose say you could become an apprentice?"

The moment that Stormkit met Flowerkit's gaze she knew. She dropped her head and her ears flattened. "I'm sorry, Stormkit." Flowerkit said quietly. "I won't be made an apprentice today."

"But," Stormkit whimpered, looking at her silver paws. She stayed silent for a few, long moments making Flowerkit feel even more guilty for having to deal with this injury. After a long moment, Stormkit looked up "Do you want me to wait? So we can become apprentices together?"

Flowerkit's heart twisted, this is what she feared. "No, I don't want you to wait." Flowerkit replied, her voice cracking. "I want you to become an apprentice and enjoy being an apprentice."

Stormkit's ears flattened. "But I don't want to do it alone. I want you to be an apprentice with me."

Flowerkit stood up and awkwardly limped over to her sister, touching her nose to Stormkit's forehead. "You won't be along for too long, Feathernose said that I could be ready to go in a moon. It would only be for a moon, and then you could teach me everything you learned."

Stormkit looked at her, her blue eyes slightly lighter but Stormkit was clearly not happy about this situation. I'm not happy either. Flowerkit thought sadly. But I refuse to hold you back too, Stormkit. "Go have your ceremony, and save me a place in the apprentice den." Stormkit looked grateful and nodded.

"Will you be at my ceremony." She questioned, sounding sheepish.

"Of course I will." Flowerkit purred. "As long as you'll be at mine."

"I promise." Stormkit rubbed gently up against Flowerkit.

"You should go get ready." Flowerkit nudged her sister gently towards the entrance. "I'll be out there when the ceremony starts."

"Alright!" Stormkit's mood seemed to be better, she turned and ran out of the medicine cat den and towards the nursery to prepare with Dovewish.

Flowerkit watched her sister go, feeling somewhat better knowing that Stormkit would be having her apprentice ceremony on time, but had an aching feeling of sadness that she would not be having it with her.

"That's very kind of you to tell her to have her ceremony without her." Feathernose added.

"I don't want to hold her back." Flowerkit said, staring out into the camp. "She'll be a great warrior and I want her to start as soon as possible. I'll be an apprentice here soon."

"That's very noble." Feathernose brushed his fluffy tail across Flowerstar's back. From outside the den, Foxstar's call could be heard; gathering the Clan together.

"Can I go watch?" Flowerkit looked up at Feathernose, hoping to stay true to her promise of attending Stormkit's ceremony.

"Yes." Feathernose stood up. "You may be six moons old but you're still a kit, so you'll be watching from outside the den." Feeling her spirits lift, Flowerkit stood up and began hobbling alongside Feathernose outside of the medicine cat den. The Clan was gathering and Stormkit sat in the middle, just before the SunTree.

Foxstar sat above the Clan and Mallownose was at the base, looking over her Clan. Flowerkit had to stop herself from running in excitement towards the Clan. She spotted Dovewish sitting close together as they watched Stormkit. Dovewish looked over towards the medicine cat den and cast a loving look towards Flowerkit.

Stormkit spotted her as well, looking incredibly excited. Despite the fact that Flowerkit knew she should be having her ceremony now as well, she felt a lot of excitement for Stormkit to make up for her own disappointment.

"Today is a proud day for SunClan," Foxstar began speaking, Stormkit squirmed in place. "By naming apprentices we know that we will remain strong for many moons to come." Stormkit stared up, her eyes as bright as the sun. "Stormkit, you have reached the age of six moons, and it is timed for you to be apprenticed. From this day forward, until you receive your warrior name you will be known as Stormpaw." Flowerkit watched the newly named, Stormpaw. She looked so proud and excited. I'm so happy for you, sister. "Your mentor will be Firetail, she was my apprentice I trust that she will teach you everything you need to know to become the best warrior you can be."

Firetail, a she-cat with fiery red fur stepped forward. Her green eyes were bright and excited, full of joy. She touched her nose to Stormpaw's and the two looked at each other with happiness. "Stormpaw! Stormpaw! Stormpaw!" Flowerkit cheered especially loud for her sister, watching from the medicine cat den.

I'm so happy for you. Flowerkit felt warm, watching her sister jump around Firetail in excitement. Soon, I'll be training with you. I just have to be patient.
