Ferris Wheel Fear

The Carnival was in town this week, and I having never gone to our city's Carnival, decided to suck it up and go for once. (I'm convinced that they are just a breeding ground for bacteria. Think about it, probably 50 people's butts have sat in the seat your sitting in on a ride. It ain't a pleasant thought for me.)

And I of course wouldn't go alone, so I invited along my best friend Rodney.

Rodney is the kinda guy who makes everything a joke. Let's say our school burned down. Rodney would say somethin' like: "Well, at least we don't have our test tomorrow!" and make any dark situation brighter.

Rodney is my best friend, and yeah he's cute or whatever, but is he my boyfriend? Nope. Do I want him to be? Maybe a lil' bit...

Anyways, I'm gettin' way off track here. I met him at the gate and I got my first full experience of the carnival. I went on almost every ride, tried an "elephant ear" for the first time. (It's like a cross between a crepe and deep fried French Toast.) and only had one thing left to ride:

The Ferris Wheel.

I hate to say it, but I am totally terrified of heights. (Went on a plane once. Long story short, I passed out and my family decided to drive back home instead of flyin'.)

Rodney, being the thrill-seeker that he is, rushed up the rather short line, dragging me with 'im.

I managed to keep my cool until we got to the very top, where the worst possible thing happened.

We stopped.

I made the mistake of looking down, and that TOTALLY made me lose it. I started shaking, sweating, and felt like I couldn't breath. I guess Rodney noticed how much I was panicking, because he grabbed my hand and pulled me into his chest.

"I want to get down. I want to get down. I WANT TO GET DOWN!" I sobbed into his blue puffer jacket.

He held me tighter and started rubbing and patting my back. I felt myself beginning to relax a little.

"You're fine. We'll be down soon. Everything's fine. You're okay." He whispered over and over in my ear.

I finally regained control and pulled away, my cheeks heating up from the realization that I had just been sobbing all over my best friend.

"S-sorry man... I'm uh, not a fan of heights... AT ALL." I tried to fake a smile. He gave me a legit smile back.

"It's fine, and to be truthful, I liked having you that close to me. Not in a perverted way! I just meant-" He himself seemed like he might panic.

"I gotcha. Mind if I get closer again?" I asked, scooting close to him and laying my head on his shoulder.

"I like you."

"I like you too."

"Hey, how mad would you be if I started rocking this..."

"RODNEY, IF YOU DO THAT, I SWEAR I'LL-" Then the ride stared moving again.

"I wasn't going to do it. I like you to much." He admitted.

I gave him a quick kiss on the cheek.

"I know."
