Wirt floated along the forest floor, holding the lantern in front of him for light. It always seemed like the forest was eternally dark ever since the Beast had returned. He turned his head when he passed by the small village of Pottsfield where he and his brother once met the giant pumpkin man, Enoch. Wirt sighed at the memory, knowing that he had to bring Greg to the Beast to save everyone he cared about. The Beast had already grabbed Sarah and Beatrice, who knows what would happen to them? Wirt then realized that he had stopped moving and was staring at Pottsfield.

Everything was quiet now. Very quiet. So quiet, that Wirt began to feel uneasy. He shook his shadowy head, and floated onward. He floated by a few more places he remembered. Mrs. Langtree's school, where the lifeless form of Jim was lying there, not moving, vultures circling around him. Wirt shivered, and moved on. The tavern, where they all called him "The Pilgrim" and warned him about the Beast. If only he had listened to them, Wirt realized as he stared at the empty tavern. Endicott and and his wife's mansion where they lived with Fred the horse. Here, Wirt stopped once again. He remembered clearly when they called the old man "Uncle Endicott", and how well Greg and Endicott bonded together. He also remembered when he confessed to Beatrice his talents and his crush on Sara Inkman. If he could, Wirt would have cried. The mansion looked so empty now. There were no signs of life, and the carcass of a dead horse littered the yard. Vines had grown around the mansion, completely camouflaging the giant building. Wirt stayed there for a few mintues before finally moving on.

Wirt eventually came to the ferry where they snuck onto the frog ferry, and when he learned of Beatrice's "betrayal". He remembered the laughing frogs, the enjoyable band, and the joyful sound of the ferry bell. He looked at the destroyed ferry still floating on the river, tied to the dock. There would be no more joyful sounds coming from that ferry anymore. Finally, Wirt moved on until he stopped at an all too familiar house. Lorna's. The house was lit up like a Christmas tree. It was the only light for miles, and Wirt floated closer to the window to see who, or what, was taking shelter there. What he saw made him give a little sigh of regret.

When Greg opened his eyes, he found himself lying in a bed, covered in several blankets. Turning his head slightly, he noticed a familiar figure sitting by the window, reading a book. Greg let his eyes adjust, and the figure blurred into Lorna.

"Lorna!" Greg shouted, jumping out of bed and running to Lorna's side.

"Greg, you're awake!" Lorna said, her smile brightening her tired eyes.

"What happened to your Auntie?" Greg asked, looking around the house.

"She's gone," Lorna said, her smiling fading. "And so is everybody else. The Beast came back, and I'm the last living human in the Unknown. The only way to save the Unknown is to kill your brother."

"That's what I was afraid of," Greg replied, looking down. "I need to find Beatrice and Sarah. Hopefully they can help me."

"No! Don't kill me! If you do, something terrible will happen to you all!"

Greg and Lorna shrieked, Lorna grabbing Greg protectively, as Wirt's figure burst through the door.

"Wirt!" Greg and Lorna shouted in surprise.

"Greg, I'm sorry, but I need to take you to the Beast," Wirt replied.

Wirt threw up his arms, making vines grow out of the ground. He pointed at Greg and Lorna, and the vines flew right at them. Greg and Lorna held onto each other, and screamed as everything faded to black.
