Geography and Nature

Landscape
The Winter Kingdom is surrounded by large mountains that make up majority of the border. The rest is an ocean full of glaciers, reaching freezing temperatures. The mountains hold caverns and caves of shiny, bright minerals and ores. Within the mountains and ocean's shore are snowy fields, frozen lakes, and forests of pines and deciduous trees that rarely grow a single leaf.

Weather/Climate
The Winter Kingdom has been cursed in an eternal winter. The origins of such a curse are unknown but the people make do in the forever-snowy lands. It almost always snows, bar the few days the clouds are clear and the sun is shining. Snow storms are common among the mountains and can sometimes reach the palace. Sun shifts are used to refer to the months where the sun either never sets or never rises; the dark shift are for the three months the sun does not rise and the light shift are for the three months it does not set.

Flora
Due to the harsh climate of the Winter Kingdom few plants can grow naturally. There are community greenhouses to assure food can be provided. The ancient Snow Weaver flower can be found in the heart of the kingdom; it's used to counteract or enhance Snow Weaver spells. There's the rare crystal flower that grows on vines throughout the Kingdom. It is seen as a symbol of love and dedication and is used to propose to lovers. Once it is picked from a vine the flower's crystal-like leaves and petals harden like the gem of its name and never wilts or deteriorates.

Fauna
The Winter Kingdom has a colourful array of fauna despite the harsh climates. Their animals consist of common creatures like seals, penguins, polar bears, owls, foxes, wolves, snow leopards, weasels, bobcats, deer and anything you can imagine surviving in snowy landscapes. There are less well-known creatures that tend to be avoided by commoners and non-sorcerers; they are told to be descendants from animals left behind when the Fae Realm portals closed. These include yetis, griffins, creatures made of crystal and ice, and some that at first seem like larger versions of the common animals but tend to have magical properties and violent tendencies depending on their exposure to people.

History and Conflicts
The Winter Kingdom has always been an impenetrable fortress. With the landscape on the Kingdom's side it makes outside attacks near impossible. Infiltration would be the best strategy but with the royal family so distrustful of outsiders it would take skilled individuals to pull it off. In the past, there was a major civil war that saw the loss of the Snow Weavers. As long as history has been written, the Winter Kingdom has been a neutral force, with no named allies. They've always been tense with the Summer Kingdom and Spring Kingdom, and they've taken no sides during the feud between the Light Kingdom and the Dark Kingdom. The King and Queen intend to keep it that way but some royals have other ideas.

Economics and Resources
Thanks to the cavernous mountains and frozen lakes, the Winter Kingdom's most valued resources are ice, minerals and ores. With their climate and landscape, farming and agriculture is limited to their community and rarely included among outside trades. Most goods are traded and sold within the Kingdom and to travelling merchants as they don't rely on other Kingdoms for resources.

Hierarchy and Class
Despite the value of community there is still a class divide between the people due to harsh climates and limited resources. Royalty is the highest class, followed by the nobility and upper-class, then the middle- and working-class, and lastly the lower-class. The royals do their best to assure resources are available for as many of their citizens as they can. However, those so far low in the lower-class tend to be loners, stuck in unreachable parts of the Kingdom or avoiding towns and cities and villages, and fending for themselves.

Culture

General
While strict, prickly and icy on the outside, the Winter Kingdom is full of vibrant and spiritual culture. Community and working together is an important value that many citizens try to uphold. They believe they are stronger together than they are apart, and while cold to outsiders, would rarely let another Winter Citizen down.
Hair is an important part of the Winter Kingdom's culture. It's a sign of wisdom; for royals a sign of their title. People only cut their hair in honour of those who have passed, cutting small strands to leave at graves or hunting sites. Short hair is often seen as a sign someone has dishonoured their family or community. To have one's hair cut, not by choice, could be just as painful as losing a limb to some.
Modesty isn't typically a concern for most Winter Citizens. They may dress for warmth and practicality but a little skin never scares anyone. Public bathhouses are the common place people go for hygienic purposes.

Kingdom Colours and Values

Colours: Blue, silver and white.
Values: Community, strength, and wisdom.

Snow Weavers

Snow Weavers were the first people of the Winter Kingdom, before, one could say, the Winter Kingdom even existed. Some believe they're from the Fae Realm, but no one is sure of their origins. Royals are believed to be descendants of Snow Weavers due to their white hair. But since they were nearly wiped out during the civil war it's been difficult to learn of any culture or history. They were said to use ancient winter magic and were some of the most powerful beings.

Art and Entertainment

Art isn't sparse around the Winter Kingdom but it isn't encouraged or celebrated the way other Kingdoms do. While ice sculptures and statues dot towns and villages, and nobles hold balls and dances, most entertainment reflects the values of community and strength.

The Arts Festival
Once a year, for a week, the Winter Kingdom takes its time to celebrate the beauty of the art in their kingdom. There are theatre and music performances in the streets, sculpting competitions, galleries and displays opened, balls held by nobles and open to all. But the most important events of the week are the ballet and figure skating. With two categories for the upper class and the commoners, people pick representatives from their family to compete in the two events.

The Dance of the Dead
While some see it as a day of mourning, the Winter citizens see it as a day to celebrate those who have come before them. The Dance of the Dead is a day spent reminiscing those people have lost through love and community. There are markets and competitions throughout the day. And at night, in the capital city the palace gates are open to all, and everyone comes together for the final dance.

The Winter Hunt
The Winter Hunt happens once a year. While hunting is a typical activity to source meat and food, the hunt occurs after the dark sun shift ends, and groups gather to find the awakening animals. Most are careful and respectful of the creatures they kill, leaving and taking enough to keep balance. In the early morning and the nightly return they pray for permission and forgiveness. For every animal they kill they must cut off a strand of their hair to honour its life.

The Winter Feast
Once a year, the Winter Kingdom hosts what is known as the Winter Feast. It is generally celebrated throughout the entire kingdom not long after the Hunts. It's a night to commemorate their strength and let themselves gorge on their winnings before preparing their resources for the next year. People come together with meals they've prepared and share with friends, family and communities.

The Winter Markets
Once every three months, to prepare but also to celebrate the sun shifts, the Winter Kingdom holds large markets in the capital city. Merchants and traders from all over set up shop for a week. There are dances and performances, competitions of strength, and displays of fine wares.

The Winter Tournament
Tournaments to show strength and power are popular among the Winter Kingdom. Many small ones show up throughout the year over the kingdom. But the one to look out for is the Winter Tournament. It's the tournament of the year. The royals spend most of their time training for this event. The royal and nobles all pick a representative of their family to compete in the tournament. They are put into an arena where they fight against one another and simulated creatures. The last one standing is the winner. However, there is a point system based on 'kills' in case something goes wrong. During this tournament there are markets and other small-scale events for commoners to participate in.

Magic
The most common form of magic in the Winter Kingdom is winter magic. Most people are born with the power to manipulate ice, water and snow. Others who have elemental magic can learn winter magic. Though fire elemental magic is banned due to the detrimental impact it can have on most winter citizens. Other forms of magic are not unwelcome but it is common for other magic users to be questioned and put under arrest if the King and Queen see fit.

Fashion

Due to the harsh climate, and for practical reasons related to resources, the most common pieces of clothing in the Kingdom include furs, coats, gloves, cloaks, long pants, jackets and thick boots. These are worn among every class.
Nobility and the upper class will be seen at formal events in long dresses and suits. Such outfits tend to be decked out with glitter, gems and sequins to replicate ice and snow.
Royalty are a little bit different. They can be easily identifiable through their hair as only royals or descendants of Snow Weavers have pure white hair. Their skin has also grown thicker over the centuries to adapt to the weather. Because of this their fashion stands out more. They stick to the fancier side of gowns and suits to show off their wealth and titles but being less affected by the weather they tend to show off a bit more skin.
Gems and jewellery are big accessories that get traded among the Kingdom.
