Winged Beast

i was meant to be
a winged beast

i have always been meant
to be born with wings
and
sometimes
i feel their weight
upon my back...
but then,
inevitably
inescapably
i feel their
absence—
and my heart
aches
like it can feel
that i'm missing a part of me
