The more I write and edit my characters in the Mutation series, the more I realize about them.

Most of this refers to their sexualities, since I didn't know much about that when I first wrote the series aside from girls liking boys and boys liking girls. Now, with the blessing of having more LGBT+ friends and noticing the lack of representation in books, I want to help.

And yes, there are people who will hate me because HOW DARE I, a straight, cis, white woman, write about ANYTHING other than what I am.

It's called being an author and you can shut up :)

ANYWHO. I've been doing a lot of thinking on this and I want to mention it to y'all because I feel like it :)

In terms of "most complicated" sexuality, that's most likely Diaval. He is greysexual, demiromantic (and yes, technically heterosexual as well because he isn't attracted to men). To clarify for those who don't know what that means, it means that he only occasionally feels sexual attraction and he has to know someone very well before developing romantic feelings for them. Part of that stems from the fact that he had a pretty traumatic childhood that makes it very hard for him to feel/understand true, romantic love. He is VERY good at familial and platonic love, but romance and sex are like "what?"

Dakota is also pretty close to being grey/demi. She just doesn't care about labels whatsoever and would rather keep people guessing.

Zilla, of course, is my ace character. She experiences no sexual attraction whatsoever, but romantic feelings are definitely present.

Eustace and Harry are my gaybies and I regret not a thing about them. Eustace basically always knew he was gay. Harry thought he was straight, then thought he was bi, and then...WHOOP, he figured out that he was gay as hell. Good job, Harry, I'm proud of you.

Destiny, Taylor, Annalise, Melanie, Dean, Copeland, Asher, Lukas, Elisabeth, Kelly, Ruby, and plenty of other characters are straight. That's a given. They like the opposite gender, that's all. Nothing special here.

Sarina is actually bi! Obviously she's dating a dude and she's very happy with that dude, but she isn't opposed to women at all. I don't think I've ever mentioned that...whoops? P.S. She totally thinks Taylor is cute and approves Raphael's taste in women.

Tiki is gay. Sorry to all you #Tikiland shippers, but Tiki ain't about that life anymore. P.S. IMMA GIVE HIM A BOYFRIEND JUST YOU WAIT.

Mitch figures out that he's pansexual in Legacy after being questioning for a while. Nixie is a big help in that since she talks to him a lot about what he's feeling and they're very open with each other.

Nixie is a trans girl :) I'm hoping to do that right!

Yeah, I'm having a lot of fun with this :) It's really cool to have diverse characters and I'm gonna try really hard to give them all the respect that they deserve!
