¨If I told you a secret,
Could you keep it?

That I am scared to close my eyes,
Scared to sleep at all.

I am terrified of the horrors,
All the dreams and memories.

¨I hide from the darkness,
And shadows at night.

Not because I am one with the light,
But because I am scared of who I am inside.

What is it that runs through me,
Do we truly think I have control over it?"

ROGUE - having savage and/or destructive tendencies; a dishonest and/or unprincipled person; a person that behaves in a faulty and/or unpredictable way

As though a part in a tv show, a camera almost pans upwards, scaling the desk and soon the black leather clad man behind it. Director of SHIELD, Nicholas J. Fury stands, scanning his view of Washington D.C. out of his tinted office windows. Paranoia fills him with every hour that passes by, now a days he can reach out and grab a hold of the tension in the air. The very kind of tension that stills the world before all goes horribly wrong.

"Hill, have you ever heard of the Freefall Rogue?"

As if spinning on an axis, focus shifts to the face of Commander Maria Hill standing across from Fury in the darkened SHIELD office. A frown makes its way to her brow and she flinches at the sound of it as though slapped in the face despite the title being completely foreign to her.

"Definitely not, sir."

"And that is just the beginning of our problems, Hill. They are a literal ghost."

"Sir, I'm confused. Isn't that the name-."

"It is, Hill."

Her chin hits her chest in shock, Maria doesn't want to bring herself to believe the truth he's bringing before her. Forcing herself to move on, Hill meets Fury's eye, "you said this 'Freefall Rogue' was just the beginning of our problems?" Fury sighs, clicking his holo-screen to life, "I found the title while searching through old SHIELD files. They are a suspected asset of a very large problem if it even exists, but what I found most intriguing is the list of kills. They seem to be suspected of committing-" He pauses in his speech to pull up the records, Hill wants to walk out of the room as the files begin flashing onto the screen.

"Almost three hundred files on our records and they tally decently over five hundred kills, counting targets and collateral damage."

"That can't be humanly possible, can it? And without this asset ever reaching our radars?"

"I don't know anymore, Hill. What interested me the most though is this specific file," Fury clicks on one locked with a level ten and higher access only, "the death of Li Wei Wang. The file doesn't even state how he died because authorities and doctors alike couldn't agree between a suicide or assassination. This Freefall Rogue is credited with the kill on guesses and theories alone, but the rumor is that at the time Wang would have been working for the very same organization the Rogue does."

"Which means he tried to get out."

"Something either scared him off or he thought he finally had enough money to disappear, especially with the Stark scandal flying after him. The question is what was he doing for this organization? Or what had he done for them?"

"But why is this important? Why were you even looking into him?"

"Because I still can't leave her be. Something in me has started screaming that we're all wrong, and so I looked into everything connected to DNA again."

"Oh gods no."

Fury had read every last report about the asset. He watched the timelines cross over files and reports. Dates contradicted others, and some reports were near to gory to read at all.

But that is what made Fury wonder. Because after all these years? After everything in these past few months? Where was this ghost now, are they preparing to strike or had someone already been murdered at their hands? Oh, and how has SHIELD never been burned by them before?

Twenty-two years before that moment
a little girl was born.

Twenty-two years before that moment
a little girl died.

Twenty-two years before that moment
money was slid under a table
in too many directions to catch.

Twenty-two years before that moment
the last piece to a puzzle was placed,

and something incredible finally began.
