Stella's POV

Why does Ceris want to talk to me? I wondered.

"You're probably wondering about what I'm going to say," Ceris said, and I nodded.

Ceris sighed. "I could always give you the long story," she said. "But I'm not sure you'll appreciate any more, so I'll give you the short version."

"Okay," I said, my heart was starting to feel heavy.

"The End has already been divided," Ceris said. "And I'm not sure how long I'll live. Hopefully, it'll be for another ten years, but Stella, you're going to rule the End one day."

"What are you saying?" I asked.

"I came here to bring you to the End," she told me. "I need to show you around so you'll know what to do when the time comes."

"Wait... you want me to leave my friends?" I asked.

"It's only temporary," Ceris said. "But yes, that's what I'm saying."

"Can't they come too?" I asked.

Ceris shook her head. "They haven't earned the right to yet."

"But what about Rain?" I pleaded. "Hasn't he earned it?"

"He has," Ceris told me. "However, it's not time for Rain to come. He's needed in the  Frostbourne. He'll help lead the Ender Watchers eventually, but you're going to rule the End."

"But Rain's a natural leader," I said. "You should have him rule the End! Not me!"

"You were already chosen before your birth," Ceris said. "So, whether you like it or not, you're going to rule the End. And you are coming back with me."

I sighed. "When are we leaving?" I asked.

"Tomorrow in the morning," she replied. "I can't stay away from my people for too long. Now, go talk to your friends."

"Alright, I'll come," I agreed, reluctantly. "But I want you to know that I don't like this one bit."

I know you don't," Ceris told me. "And I'm sorry, but that's just how it is."

I turned away, my heart throbbing as I tried not to cry.
