Xavier's POV

I've always loved the burgundy, I never had a favorite color, which is true, burgundy is the color that suits me best. It's been a comfort in my life, a constant, from the blankets at the orphanage, to the lipstick worn by the previous gang leader's wife who treated me with kindness, to my favorite wines, to my car, and to my suits. The one time I hated the color was when it was spilling out of the Golden Girl because of a bullet I put in her heart.

Being a gang leader I'm not supposed to feel guilt, remorse, any attachment much less love; those feelings make a person weak and vulnerable, yet I find myself feeling those feelings towards Amber Marigold. I find myself texting her begging her to wake up promising to reveal myself, even though I know she'll probably hate me more than she already does if knows I'm the one who's been texting her all this time.

This wasn't the plan when I first started texting the three of them. I was supposed to get the boys to have a common goal of Amber, then act as the bad guy while helping them secretly to unite them so the South would be taken out after they were revealed as the real enemy, but I forgot about how Amber would change the plan. Beautiful both inside and out and surprising, she had us all falling for her without even trying, too selfless hurt anyone's feelings except her own. That's partly why she's in a coma I told her she had to choose between them. I knew the choice was going to be hard for her, but I knew how much she loved family and values family so I knew who she was going to pick to survive she wanted both boys to be with their families. I expected her to pick Owen to survive, but I didn't expect her to jump in front of the gun it spooked me and the gun went off.

Guilt has become a regular feeling since then, and according to my spy the same feeling has been taking control of Blake. According to my spy, who has now been promoted to the West's second-in-command due to both East and West's seconds dying at Isabella. Jack my spy has been West's hacker since Blake took over, it's no secret to him that Blake blames himself as he had done when his father and brother were killed and when his curly-headed inner gang member got shot at the Northern ball.

Lynch a curly-headed member of the West gang has woken up, but now everyone hopes and waits for Amber to wake up. As snow begins to fall and the winter months begin hope, a dangerous emotion in itself, begins to diminish the longer Amber stays asleep the less likely it will be that she wakes up.

It's almost poetic that winter started just after she fell into a coma. In winter the world grows dark and cold; I once told Amber "How dark the universe will be without you, Marigold." Now the world is dark and cold as if her warmth and light is what made the world warm and bright. The world froze over as Gold was frozen in a coma. It sounds like something out of a sonnet by William Shakespeare or Robert Frost.

Amber has to wake up not just because the world would be very dark without her but also the entire plan fall apart and backfire. Amber is the rightful Sterling heir and has the power to unite most the gangs in Tygerwell, but if she dies East and West will fall back into hating each other which is exactly what the Sounds wants, both boys will blame themselves and each other for her death and also blame me, they'll be after me and each other, distracted by fighting to avenge Amber that the South will easily take control.

Almost everyone who meets Amber seems to be drawn to her. Whether it be to her outward beauty, her refusal to conform, her kindness and inner beauty, her surprising nature, or her intellect and wit people are drawn to Amber Marigold. When I first saw her I was drawn to her outward beauty, when I was texting and watching her her kindness and inner beauty drew me to her, and when I interacted with her as the bad guy I was drawn to her intellect and wit as well as her refusal to conform and surprising nature.

I may have called her my weapon against the boys, but the truth is Amber Marigold is her own weapon capable of saving or destroying us all and it all depends on if she wakes up. The Frozen Gold must melt if there's any hope at all.
