10/2/3470,
Glitzern,

Scarlet's Apartment,

I watched as my abnormal silver hair fell in a feathery half circle around me. The quiet snip-snip of my mothers' no-nonsense black scissors keeping me focused, as she cut my once long, straight, hair, so that I looked more presentable for the ceremony.

My green eyes stared back at me in the mirror, almost cockily. I knew that mirrors were just my reflection, but I looked more defiant than I usually did. Instead of the meek, docile girl I knew I was, I looked stronger. Ready.

Once she was done, I swung my non-existent hair over my shoulder, and smiled. It now curled around my slightly pointed ears, a little below a pixie cut (sort of), in true Glitzern fashion. Of course, my mother never was the most conventional, to go for an actual pixie cut, nevermind go to the actual hairdressing salon, that was a two minute walk down the road.

For example, on ceremony day, most girl's wore dresses, or at least something formal that would be appropriate at a job interview. My mum, on the other hand, might as well of let me wear jeans and a poncho. Although, I had quite a bit more common sense than her.

I had put on a baby blue blouse, that had long, fluted sleeves. My trousers were black, with a scarlet stripe down each leg. They were flared slightly at the bottom, so they weren't skinny, and didn't stick to my legs. My outfit was plain, but it looked formal enough, and I would pass under the ceremony workers radar.

I didn't really like being noticed. I was more of an introvert. I just wanted to slip away into the shadows, even though my mum was walking me to the lab where the ceremony was being held. You had to be signed away with permission from a parent to undergo the serum in the ceremony.

The ceremony was something that all the over sixteen's had to partake in since 3307, one year into the war. Three years before people stopping G.E.M six-six-six's treachery. They made you pick out a piece of paper, with a number on. There was usually only about one thousand to two thousand kids, (in Glitzern, my home town, anyway) so it wasn't a really long ceremony. When you'd picked your number, the kid with the number six-six-six was taken away specially.

There were a lot of conspiracy theories about the six-six-sixes, as nobody remembered their faces. Everybody else then got injected with a serum that put you into a fear landscape. It was like hallucinations of dreaming extremely vividly. You see your fears, and conquer them. It makes everyone into a better person. Of course, my strange mum never got the serum. She some how avoided having the injection - which was almost impossible - and look where she is now. Kind of crazy.

I was hoping to get in there, get called a normal number that wasn't surrounded with creepy conspiracy theories, and get out. Of course, my life was never that easy, but I tried my best.

Eventually my Mother called to me. She really didn't like me going to the have the serum, but I insisted, and eventually she gave in. Her blonde hair was still curly as ever, but at least she tried to tug a brush through it. Mum's locks reached her waist which curved inwards. Infact, she was extremely pretty and curved in all the right places. She was wearing her jade green dress shirt with skin shade tights, but at least she'd made an effort. Probably just for my sake.

"Oh, Scar! You look so beautiful in blue!" She smiled.

"Thank you mum! Are we going now?" I asked.

"Just wait a minute... Ah ha!" She cried. Then she leant down and secured a scarlet moon necklace around my neck. It looked just like her moon pendant, except hers was navy blue. The pendant glittered, and I realised they were probably real garnets. "Something to remember me by, eh?" She said cryptically.

"Mum! I'll only be gone a couple of hours!" I protested, but, she quickly gave me a look that said, 'take the gift girl!'.

I quickly thanked her, whilst me and Mum tugged on our matching seal grey ankle boots. We then strode out of the door of our little apartment, our porcelain hands joined together, not knowing that Mum's cryptic words, weren't so cryptic after all...

If only I had listened. Thing's would've been so, so different. I honestly don't know if that was a good thing or not.

There you have it, chapter one! If you're enjoying it, it would be great if we got some votes, or you vocalised about it. Although, if you want to be a silent reader, you're still being amazing by stacking up those reads! Much love!
