The two of them stared at the floor. The stones kept moving to reveal a hidden staircase under the stone floor.

                                                          ---------------------------------------

"A hidden staircase?" Sophie gasped.

"How in the world is there a hidden staircase in a Neverseen prison?" Ruy wondered, "And why did I never know about it?"

"Maybe they didn't trust you enough," Sophie suggested.

"Nope, that can't be true!" Ruy replied, "But why would there be a hidden staircase in a prison? The Neverseen are smart, they wouldn't do that!"

"The Neverseen probably don't know about the staircase," Sophie said, thoughtfully. "We should speak quieter if there are guards listening."

"Ok, let's go check it out!" Ruy exclaimed.

"Nope, not let's go check it out. I will go check it out!" Sophie argued.

"I am for sure coming with you." Ruy protested. "Who knows what's down there?"

"Nope!" Sophie told him.

"But-" Ruy started.

But Sophie interrupted him, "Just look at yourself!"

Sophie glanced at Ruy's legs.

"What?" Ruy asked, trying to act surprised.

"You know what," Sophie told him, glaring.

"I don't care! It doesn't hurt!" Ruy lied.

"You are such a bad lier!" Sophie glared at him, "STAY HERE!"

Her final command worked. Ruy didn't protest after that.

"Good! I will be back in 10 minutes. If I am not back then you have my permission to come down here yourself!" Sophie told him.

Sophie left before Ruy could say a word.

Sophie walked down the staircase. It was narrow and dark. She stumbled and fell many times. (Keefe isn't here to catch her, I'm sad)

She walked and walked, and down and down went the staircase. Sophie fell again, for the 28th time.

"Here catch this." Ruy said from the top of the staircase, throwing down a small pocket flashlight.

"Thanks, Ruy!" Sophie called up to him, watching the flashlight.

Even with the flashlight, Sophie fell three more times.

                                                        Time Skip - 10 Minutes

Sophie reached the bottom of the staircase. There was a huge dusty old room filled with bookshelves. There were many books but they were torn and scattered.

Suddenly the lights turned on by themselves.Sophie screamed and dropped the flashlight.

"Okay, now I am definitely coming down. Don't stop me from doing so!" Ruy called, his voice was very faint now that Sophie reached the bottom.

Sophie didn't stop him now but she did want him, "The space is very tight and cramped. Plus it's a very long and tiring walk until here."

"Well, I'm still coming down!" Ruy told her.

Sophie sighed as she picked up the flashlight and put it in her pocket. She knew this was going to be very important, so she didn't stop Ruy. But she was worried. His leg was in horrible condition. It would be so hard to come down. He needed to go to Elwin right after this. That is, if they manage to get out of the prison somehow.

Well, that was stuff to worry about later. Sophie pushed those thoughts away and put them in a 'things to worry about later' box.

She ran over to the bookshelves and started looking through the books. There were many books about skills, like Telekinesis, Blinking, Body Temperature Regulation, Darkness Vision, Breath Control, Levitating. Those books could be helpful for them to learn. Sophie grabbed the best book that showed how to use skills and put it in a box in the corner of the room. She could take the box back when they were leaving.

"I'm here!" Ruy said, making Sophie jump. "Wow!"

"Yeah, there are so many books here. Just put the ones we need to take back in the box. How did you get here so fast?" Sophie asked.

Ruy shrugged.

"Okay, then. Let's get to work. Be careful with your leg," Sophie told him.

Ruy nodded.

Sophie and Ruy looked through the books and didn't find anything very useful. They had just found some books about abilities, Elvin culture and Elvin foods.

"I'm getting bored!" Ruy said, yawning. "I'm tired."

"Looking through books is boring." Sophie agreed. They had probably spent around four hours looking for important information from the books.

"Why don't we go back now?" Ruy asked.

"Let's leave. There is nothing important here. Just random books." Sophie said, bringing the box of books with her to leave.

Sophie's stomach growled.

She saw Ruy staring at her,"What?" she asked.

"Nothing, I'm hungry too," Ruy answered. "Mallowmelt would taste good right now!"

Sophie's stomach growled again, "Shut up, Ruy! You're making me more hungry!" Sophie wacked his arm playfully without dropping the books.

"Why don't we leave the box of books here? We can get it later. It would be hard to carry it all the way up to the prison. And plus, the Neverseen would get suspicious." Ruy told her.

"Okay!" Sophie dropped the box of books in the end of the room and started climbing up the staircase.

Ruy followed her. "Where is the flashlight I gave you?"

"Here," Sophie said, handing him the flashlight from her pocket.

Ruy light their way back up and they slowly walked up the stairs. After 10 steps, Sophie fell.

Ruy sighed, "You fall everywhere. Didn't someone teach the moonlark how to walk?"

"I can walk just fine." Sophie replied, rolling her eyes. (No, you can't Sophie)

"No, you can't! You will fall in 10 more steps." Ruy predicted.

And just as Ruy predicted, Sophie fell in 10 steps.

"Told you so!" Ruy pumped his fist in the air. "Even I can walk without falling."

"Shut up!" Sophie glared at him, and punched him hard in the arm.

"What was that for?" Ruy asked, rubbing his arm.

"You know what that was for!"

"But you punch hard." Ruy whined.

Sophie sighed and they walked up and up the stairs in silence thinking about many things.

                                                       Time Skip - 10 Minutes

They finally reached the top after what it felt like walking for hours.

"What?" Ruy asked, looking up.

"What?" Sophie asked, confused.

"Look," Ruy pointed.

"What?" Sophie asked Ruy.

"The door we came through is closed!" Ruy told her. "Didn't you see that?"

"Oh, I didn't" Sophie felt dum about not realizing that. "How do we get out now?"

"How do I know? I'm not the moonlark," Ruy asked.

"Well, aren't you going to help me come up with an idea," Sophie glared. "Stop playing around."

"My job is to play around while the Moonlark comes up with an idea," Ruy jokes.

"Don't call me that!" Sophie snapped.

"Okay, Moonlark!" Ruy replied.

Sophie sighed, what was she going to do with Ruy?

"Nothing, you can't do anything about me! Getting rid of me is too hard." Ruy laughed.

It took her a second to realize that she had said that out loud. Sophie sighed. It was so hard for her to come up with ideas to escape when Ruy was laughing so loud.

"I'm trying here!" Sophie said to him.

"Okay, okay! I'll stop." Ruy told her.

"You better," Sophie mumbled.

There was no way to get out unless there was a way to open the door. How were they going to do that?

"Do you have any ideas to get the door to open again?" Sophie asked him, "What did we do the first time to get it to open?"

"How do I know?" Ruy told her, smiling.

"Not funny," Sophie told him, trying not to smile.

"It is funny," Ruy told her.

"What is?" Sophie asked.

"The way you get mad at me," Ruy answered.

Ugh! Not this all over again, Sophie thought.
