Samson's POV

It was six forty-seven in the morning. Today was Friday, and Mother 'Nature decided to bless us with her rain (although for me, it was a curse).

It was raining heavily, which made me contemplate whether to go to school or not. I then decided on skipping school today but mum said a big 'no' to that when I told her.

"So how would I go to school under this heavy rain?" I whined. I really didn't want to go to school 'cause I felt there was no need. After Tuesday, Anita and I never spoke for once. In fact, she'd changed seat with Ola, and it was really perplexing to the class not only to Ola, but no one cared to ask why. Even though they'd asked, I wouldn't have answered them.

So since that day, school had been lonely and boring for me. I was always sad in classes.

"Take an umbrella." She replied in a duh tone.

"But...but it's too small to cover all of me. I mean, my bag pack would get wet and drench my notebooks."

"Really Samson?" She folded her arms and pouted her lip at me. "Are you looking for an excuse just to skip school today?"

"No!" I replied firmly, whereas, I was sure looking for an excuse to skip school today. "But mum...it wouldn't cost us anything if I just don't go to school today. Besides, it's raining heavily, and I might catch a cold." I made sure I sounded so convincing.

She paused before speaking again. "You wouldn't buy me with that. Now before I close and open my eyes, I don't want to see you here again."

"Mummy na...!"

"Get out of here my friend! Iwu ewu."

I made a closed mouth hiss before walking out with the umbrella that was placed behind the door.

"Now who can tell me the types of algae we have?" I heard our biology teacher's voice say in the class. Shit! I'm late.

The journey to the school was very rough. You don't even want me to get started with that.

I got to the school very late. I wasn't with a wristwatch but I knew full well that I was late. Also, the umbrella didn't contain me. I was literally dripping, and I didn't know how I would enter the class.

"Who's at the door?" My heart skipped at the instant I heard her say, and immediately I hid behind the wall. What am I going to do? "I said, who's at the door?" She raised her voice a bit, making my heart pound heavily. I could sense that right now the class was dead silent, and all attention would be drawn to the door.

After much contemplation, I sighed before walking out of my hidden position to show my face to the class. "Goo...good morning ma."

"Why were you hiding, huh?" I didn't answer. My head was just bowed to the ground. "And what happened to you? Did you walk in the rain?"

"Not really. I just-"

"Did you not carry an umbrella with you?" She cut me off. "From what I can see, you're with an umbrella, so why did you get drenched like this?"

"Nothing ma." I simply said.

"Come in anyways. I'm going to pardon you today 'cause I know it's raining heavily, but next time I wouldn't. I mean, your mates that came early don't have two heads."

"Thank you ma." I walked in stiffly, and shivering a bit.

"Don't you think he looks hot in this wet state?" I heard someone murmur to her sit partner.

"He sure does." The perversive sit partner replied eyeing me.

I scowled at them both and made my way to my seat.

"Good morning." I murmured to my new sit partner, Ola. I guess he didn't hear me 'cause he didn't reply.

My eyes then met Anita's back view, and I rolled my eyes at the sight. I kept rolling my eyes at the class, wishing I could just leave and never return.

"What's the matter Samson?" The biology teacher asked me, making all heads at the front snap at me, except Anita's. "Why are you rolling your eyes?"

"Erm...some...something entered my eyes." I blatantly lied.

"Okay." She continued with the class.

Anita's POV

Classes today were going on smoothly, and now it was time for break. Ola, Susan and I were excited to go out for break today 'cause we already had plans for it. The only sad thing was that it rained. I despise rain honestly.

We cheerfully made our way to the food vendor. We bought snacks and went to our usual spot to devour what we bought.

"Ehen...Anita, I've been meaning to ask, why did you change sits with Ola?" Susan asked seconds after we sat down on the bench.

I wasn't taken aback neither was I expecting the question. But I knew for sure that one day, soon to be precise, that one of them would ask the question.

"Well..." Thinking of what to say. "It's not bad to try out new things." I shrugged nonchalantly.

She gave me a skeptical look but decided to wing it off.

"So yes Ola, you said you were going to tell us about your–"

"Hey Anita!" Someone interrupted. "I thought I might find you hear. I've been looking for you everywhere."

I furrowed my eyebrows and sneaked a peek at Susan and Ola before facing her again. "What's the problem?"

"The principal has been looking for you. Anyways, he said I should tell you and Samson to meet him in his office."

My heart skipped a bit. "Why?" I asked in a bit of fright.

"Don't know." She shrugged and turned to leave but I stopped her in her pace.

"Wait wait wait..." I stood up to hold her hand. "Have you told Samson too?"

"No. Tell him yourself biko." She ran off after.

"What?" I turned to look at my friends. "So she expects me to go and meet him? Why didn't she just meet him first, instead of coming to me?"

"What's there? Just go to meet him, Samson, principal is calling us now. Then you walk out." Susan said.

"I wonder o." Ola added. "It's not that hard."

I rolled my eyes at them and sat down back. After a little pause, I said. "Or, can one of you please help me call him."

"No! Never." Ola scrunched his face. "Both of you have to go together, so you have to go call him yourself. Besides, time's ticking." He grinned afterwards.

I rolled my eyes at him, and sighed heavily. I stood up abruptly and walked fast to where I thought I could find him– the class.

I went in and immediately went out when I saw that he was actually in the class reading, alone. I pitied him instantly. He didn't have friends. I inhaled and exhaled before walking in again. "Uhm..." He raised his head up at the sound of my voice. "Principal is calling both of us." I said and turned to leave but he stood me to a halt.

"Wait, why?"

"Don't know. Just let's go now." I quickly walked out.

As I was walking to the principal's office, I heard him say. "Wait, wait for me!"

He ran to me and held my hand, breathing heavily. "Ah! Why walking so fast though? Chai!"

"Can we go already?" I didn't even glance at him.

"Yeah, we can." He said dryly. Okay, his tone of voice slapped me hard on the face. I didn't expect him to sound that way, but what do I care?

We walked silently to his office,  leaving a huge gap in between us. It was very awkward, trust me.

We finally got to the principal's office. "Good morning Sir." We both greeted him.

"How are you both doing?"

"We are fine sir."

"Well, straight to the point, I called you guys here just to inform you that it's tomorrow we are leaving for South Africa. So when you get home today, tell your parents about it and arrange your luggage. Remember, it's a week trip. Lest I forget, the time you're to be here tomorrow is 8am prompt. Please don't be late. You may dismiss now."

"Thank you sir." We both left the office quietly.

As I wanted to path ways with Samson, he held my hand, hence stopping me. My heart did a stunt.

"Can we just forget whatever happened and move on?" He said calmly.

I turned to gaze at him. Firstly, I removed my hand from his hold before speaking. "I've moved on, and I think you should too."

He sighed. "Like, can we be friends again?"

"Not sure that can ever happen." Okay, he looked sad instantly, and I felt bad. Oh gosh! I felt bad!

He concealed the sad look with a sad smile. "I'm...I'm sorry for disturbing. See you tomorrow."

"Hmm."

We both departed ways. Okay, why was I feeling terrible now? My gosh! I'm not feeling myself. I want help. In fact, I need help!
