Gehraiyan

When u r unable to hold your self and fall in an unending space......
Neither way back nor reaching anywhere
Just deep dark groove
Like a limbo.

When you start drinking to drown your pain but the pain learn how to swim.

When your sleep is not just sleep anymore
It's an escape

When the bravest thing you can do is continue to live when you want to die

Flashbacks in Italics.

She tossed restlessly on her bed, not knowing what to make of Dr.Shalini's words.

That something was wrong, something was up, was true.
She had noticed his increasingly lost demeanor, since the last few days.

Even though she or any of her friends weren't yet on talking terms with him.
For entirely different reasons.

Them because they believed Major Bhargav.
She because he had told her he killed her brother.

Yet, Dr. Shalini's words kept comming back to her.

Its...probably nothing..cadet.
I am...just worried about captain Rajveer.

Naina had stiffened at his name.
Shalini, who did not notice this, as she was absent mindely playing with her paperweight, continued.

Shalini : I...dont know what wrong...or if anything is wrong.
I mean...he insists its all fine.
But....

She looked at Naina.

Hes been here for sleeping pills 5 times in 2 days.

I know he has had trouble sleeping since a long time, so I wasn't worried initially.
But I think its becoming too much, even by his standards.

Finally, unable to take it any more, she decided she had to do it.
She had to speak with him.

Especially after what Abhimanyu had explained to her today, about what happened not being his fault.

.....

It took him a whole of 30 seconds to register that it was Naina who was standing there, having barged into his room without knocking as usual.

He was sitting on the the sofa, the table and himself drowning in files and papers.

He hadn't immediately looked up, when she entered, so engrossed was he, in his perusal.

Then, suddenly feeling someone's presence, he looked up, and had been surprised to see her standing there.

He opened his mouth to speak, then shut it again, not knowing what to say, when his eyes fell on two Id cards lying on his laptop bag near him.

Raj : Wo...Um...Cadet Singh..

Main...main tumsehi milna chahta tha.

Naina stared at him, unable to comprehend why he wanted to meet her, or why he was oblivious to the fact that it was almost midnight.

Raj continued, still in a distracted way though.

Raj (his tone apologetic) : Wo......

Main...batane hi wala tha...

Actually it recently got a date so....wakt nahi mila...

She looked at him confused.

He picked up an Id and extended his hand to her.

She took it, suprised to see it had her name on it.

Raj : Naveen ke case ki hearing, parso hai.

I have taken permission for you to attend.

He stopped speaking again, not knowing what else to say.

Naina just stared at him.

Hearing?

Naveen's case?

Naina : Aapne...aapne mujhe...bataya kyu nai?

Aur...does this mean...you have enough proofs?...

How can you reopen the case?

Raj, who had gone back to studing the documents, looked up.

He hadn't heard half of what she said.

Raj : Huh?

Sorry.

Sorry I was distracted...tum kya keh rahi thi?

She was staring at him.

Dark circles beneath his eyes, pale skin, tired bloodshot eyes.

Naina (her tone accusatory) : Does this mean you got the red box??

And if you did, why did you not tell me?

Raj, still distracted, did not appear to have grasped the hostility in her tone.

He replied to her normally, as if nothing was wrong between them.

As if the past few days, her rudeness, her attempting to kill him, never happened.

Raj : Nahi...I did not find the redbox.....I..er..found some other evidence...

(He did not meet her eyes while saying this)

Naina : You mean, you found evidence against Gehlot too?

(He had shared this piece of information with her, previously, that he suspected Gehlot of beqing involved)

Raj avoided her question.

Raj : Um....wo...main zara busy hoon...tumse ye sab baad me baat karta hu.....

He went back to fervently studying the documents he had around him, arranging each in a neat pile as he finished each.

She stood there, then after a while, seeing that Raj was completely engrossed in his work, decided to leave, still angry on him for not sharing details with her.

She reached the door, then stopped and turned to look at him, for some reason.

He looked far more worried than she had ever seen him.

Shalini's words came back to her.

She looked up, to him absentmindedly pressing his forehead with one hand, holding a file in the other.

Having nothing else to say, she left, all the while feeling something somewhere was terribly wrong.
