The moment Star felt someone forcefully grab her wrist, she was swept off her feet. She had been pulled into a waltz by a boy her age with glistening hazel eyes that, even in the blood moon's red light, seemed to keep their sparkle. Star didn't notice, but her cheeks began to simmer into a plush red. Her eyes matched the handsome stranger's eyes with the same sparkle. Her mouth hung halfway open in awe.

"Star?" The stranger said in a stretched, mysterious, yet soothing voice. "Star?"

"How do you know my name?" She asked the boy with the brunette bunch of hair and rose red sombrero. He wore a Mexican, skull face-like mask with a thin mustache that kept his identity a secret. His suit was noticeably Spanish due to his golden shoulder pads and black tux. Along with the tux and sombrero, was a red, flowing tie. On his feet, two black, slick dress shoes.

The man in the mask took Star and spun her. Her dress went with her, soaring in a circular motion, following the twirl. They went along like this, waltzing along to the jazzy, yet upbeat, minor piano music. The mysteriously graceful stranger took Star and dipped her, bringing her quickly back up with a beautiful, sight-seeing pull. Star almost fell off her feet, trying to get back up after the dip. Her knees were weak and she knew it was because she couldn't stop her eyes from not retreating the stranger's. The whole time she couldn't help but wonder who the man behind the mask was. She just needed a peek.

When Star was pulled close to him once more, her eyes fell on the boy's lips that were curled into a smile. His lips were tempting and tender. She leaned in closer until she could feel the stranger's steady breath on her. She could tell that he was taken off guard by her sudden actions. With his lips laying on Star's, the stranger's eyes widened. Though, he didn't kiss back, Star still managed to connect her own lips with his. Her stomach flipped and flopped and her heart was awakened with a thump and then a beating. Everyone - all the monsters at the ball were watching and waiting. The moon even illuminated the scene above the couple on the dancefloor.

When she gave the boy space and broke away from him, she stared at his intensified eyes with pupils as bold and round as Mewni's moons. The stranger froze. Star inhaled the Underworld's air before making, yet, another move. She took her steady and careful hand and began to peel off the stranger's mask. As she lifted it, her heart stopped its joyful play. The stranger had a dark mole on his left cheek as well as rosey cheeks. That's when Star realized her unforgettable mistake.

She had kissed her best friend.

"Marco?!" She exclaimed, shame spreading across her face. Her smile had vanished and so did his. She couldn't even look at him anymore. She needed to hide. So, Star dropped her head in total embarrassment and trudged away. From beyond, the music cut out and the blood moon made itself as visible as ever.

"Wait! Star, stop!" Marco pleaded, holding out a hand to the girl with the blonde hair. "I can explain!" He continued on, raising his voice, hoping she would stop. The only thing that made Star stay was the impending border that appeared to lock her in, keeping her from running away from Marco.

"Nononono!" Another voice chimed in from the crowd. Everyone was being shoved out of the way by an easily-tempered boy with long horns and three eyes. The demon, Tom, made his way frantically to Star, who still stood at the border of the blood moon. She had her hands on the thick, red, impenetrable force, trying to break free from it. Tom banged and pounded hard, with all his might, but the border refused to even budge.

"Tom!" Star shouted. "Help me! Let me out!"

Fear struck Star with incredible power and before she knew it, she found her hands - her arms - no, her whole body - infested with glittering and shining tiny, red particles, one by one. "Star?" Marco said from behind with a shaky voice.

Star turned her back on Tom to see Marco, who was decorated with the same tingling particles. They simultaneously found the answer to the magic when turning their heads skywards at the blood moon ball's light. When Star met Marco's frightened eyes again, she ran towards them. Her arms were wide open and Marco's were, too. When they met in the middle, they embraced a bittersweet, warm hug, witnessing each other slowly disappear into nothing but a mist.

The blood moon had chosen them. It knew fate when it saw it and Star and Marco were bound to be together as one. They were the chosen ones. They were the ones who would be combined together as one. And for the last second, before they were taken away by the light of the moon like a magical disappearing act, they knew it was meant to be.
