"Look out, Donna!" We both shout a warning and point at the huge truck speeding towards her. When she looks up, she does the worst thing possible. She freezes like a deer caught in headlights. I cringe, sure I'm about to witness her body become a bloody mess, smeared all over the pavement. Horrified, I watch as three tons of steel careen towards her with enough momentum to take out a brick wall. Dylan responds so fast, I don't realize what's happening until I see him run across the road. He leaps out in front of the oncoming truck with amazing speed. Tackling Donna, he throws her to the ground and out of harm's way. I cringe hearing the driver slam on his brakes. The sound of screeching metal tears the air as the truck's massive bumper clips Dylan's foot. His left Nike flies into the air.

Recovering from my shock, I run across the street to see if they're both all right. I feel sick to my stomach. Why wasn't Donna hit by the garbage truck? In the premonition I had Saturday night at the Main Street Club, Donna's face was lacerated, her body mangled. She was dead. My head is spinning with disbelief. Could my premonitions be altered? Or used to change the outcome of things to come? What kind of power would that be?

My mother always told me the things we see disclosed to us by The Sight are bends in time. She said the visions are like headlights on a dark road, illuminating the night. Only ours are beyond the capacity of super beams. Everyone else only sees what's happening right now in their lives, but we can see hours, days, or even weeks ahead. I've never thought of this as an incredible advantage because I can't control this ominous, paranormal skill. Or call it up on demand. I can't concentrate on someone and see their future. I only get random, unpredictable, flashes of someone's life. Often these premonitions don't even make sense until after they occur. Right now I'm in a state of shock with what I've just witnessed. All this flashes through my mind as I run to Dylan and kneel down beside him. I'm shaking with nervous energy and worry. "Dylan, are you hurt?"
