EP.38|You Thought You Could Get Away With, Didn’t You?

“Zeref…” A voice echoed in his dreams, Zeref looked around to see he was in a dark, zero light. “Zeref...” The voice echoed again. “You thought you could get away with, didn’t you?” The 4 ghost spirits asked, a girl and 3 boy.

“Go away…” Zeref muttered, fear filled his eyes. “You can’t be real… I’m dreaming again...this can’t be real…” Zeref said, scooting back from the ghost.

“So, you killed another one?” 1rst boy ghost asked. “Wh-What?” Zeref stuttered. “You killed her. You killed Freddie. And I thought you said you loved her? How could you?” The female ghost taunted.

“What are you talking about?” Zeref asked in shock. “I would never kill Freddie. I love her more than I’ve ever loved anything.” Zeref added, looking back at his shadow to see a man with an evil smile plastered on his face with a hole where his heart should be, holding a bloody knife.

“If that’s true…then why is her blood on your hands?” The 2nd male ghost asked.

“What…?” Zeref asked. “Look at your hands, Zeref.” The 3rd boy ghost echoed as Zeref slowly looked down to see they were tainted.

With blood.

He was in such a state of shock, he almost blacked out. His thoughts raced wild thinking the worst. “You KILLED her. She cried for help. You killed her anyways!” The female yelled.

“See? You’re just a killer! And that’s all you’ll ever be!” The 1rst boy ghost scolded, the words burning into Zeref’s brain. “But… I love her…” Zeref managed to say. “W-wasn’t that supposed to be enough?” Zeref added.

“Wasn’t that supposed to save her?!” Zeref yelled. “You knew from the start that nothing you can do will ever be enough.” The 2nd boy yelled back.

“And now, you’ve killed her! You’ve killed the only person who ever loved you back!” The 3rd boy laughed evilly. “No one will ever be safe.” The girl laughed also. “Especially not you.” The 1rst added.

“You’re just a wretched.”

“Evil.”

“Freak!” the ghosts yelled.

“Who would ever want to be loved by you, anyways? You’d only kill them. That’s all your good for!” The female yelled. “That’s not true…” Zeref muttered.

“This can’t be tru! I didn’t kill her! You’re lying to me!!” Zeref yelled. “Surely, I would've remember something about it if I did!!” Zeref added.

“Even if it wasn't true...do you even truly love her?” The 2nd boy asked. “Of course I do! Why else would I be having a horrible nightmare about her dying?!” Zeref scowled.

“But, she had a nightmare about you. Do you really think she love you?” The 3rd boy asked slyly.

Zeref didn’t know the answer to that question, did Freddie love him back? Why would she? After everything he’s done.

Nobody could ever love him. Right? But, the slim possibility of Freddie loving him back felt like hope to him. Hope that he hasn’t felt in a long time.

“You know you’re dangerous. You know you’re only going to end up killing her.”  The girl stated. “So why do you stay with her…?” The 1rst boy asked. “I…” Zeref struggled to answer.

“Do you want her dead?” The 2nd boy asked. “No, I don't!!” Zeref answered, worrying filled his eyes. Just even the thought of Freddie being dead scared the life out of him.

“Why are you holding her hostage?” The 3rd boy asked as Zeref’s looked away from them a bit.

“Why is she afraid of you?”

“Why do you scare her?”

“Why do you have dreams where she’s dead?”

“Stop, please…” Zeref whimpered. “Why, Zeref? Why do you obsess over her? Why do you keep her so close?” The girl ghost taunted.

“Stop...I...I…”

“Cause I love her!!”

Next thing he knew he was on his bedroom floor, kneeling, holding his head. His eyes filled with tears, his face covered in nervous sweat.

“Zeref! Calm down.” A calming voice said. Zeref looked up to see Freddie. Her eyes filled with worry. “Freddie…? I-is that really you…?” Zeref voice was shaky, Freddie nodded.

“Hey...wait…. Zeref, what’s wrong?” Freddie asked bringing Zeref into a hug. “Did...did you forget about me?” Zeref asked, resting his hands on her shoulder.

“Well, yeah, kinda but- wow, this boy named Davin and I had a lot of fun together. He’s a childhood friend. So I kinda...spaced out.” Freddie chuckled nervously.

“We played video games at his dorm room for a bit, and he was really bad at them. And then we went and got dinner together… and his family was so nice to me and it was just the most fun I’ve had in years!” Freddie smiled widely.

“I wish you could've been there, I-!” Freddie then noticed Zeref facing away from her, holding the side of his head with his hands. “Um...Zeref? Hey, what’s wrong…?” Freddie asked, nervously.

“Come on, buddy, it was an accident! I didn’t mean to forget!” Freddie flung her arms over his shoulders.

“Besides, look, you handled nine hours by yourself just fine!” Freddie pointed out. “The ghost… the nightmare…” Zeref muttered as he got up from the floor.

“The hallucinations, the nightmare…. All that…” Zeref glared at Freddie who was backing up slowly.

“And that’s all you can say to me? That I handled it “just fine”?” Zeref asked seriously, walking towards her. “Z-Zeref, come on, I just spaced out for a little while.” Freddie stuttered a little.

“I didn’t even know if you were dead or alive, o-or hurt somewhere! I was panicking! And you tell me you just forgot?” Zeref said, his eyes turning electric blue.

“Zeref, I-I-” Zeref then cut her off. “No! This isn't something I’m gonna ever let happen again!” Zeref yelled.

“Y-You have a lesson you need to learn!” Zeref then raised up his fist, pinning her to the wall.

“I-I don't wanna do this, but- I-I have to, okay?! This is how you learn! We’re not going through that one more time!” Zeref yelled as Freddie looked into his eyes, her eyes filled with fear and concern.

“So stay still! And s-stop looking at me like that!” Zeref yelled. “I...I hate it when you look at me like that…” Zeref said as he looked into her eyes once more.

“...stop… I-I hate it! Why do you have to look like that?!” Zeref covered hid his face in his hands.

Finally letting go of Freddie, he turned away from her. “Why? I don't know what’s going on! Why?! Oh gods, help me!” Zeref muttered. “Zeref…?” Freddie asked delicately.

“Zeref, maybe you should sit down for a bit...I think you’re having another...breakdown.” Freddie suggested. “Remember last time you were like this…?” Freddie reminded him.

“How could I even think of hurting something like you?!” Zeref gripped her shoulders. “Uh-!” Freddie said in shock.

“Just look at you! You’re so cute, a-and so nice to me! Hurting you would be unforgivable!” Freddie than began to blush.

“Come here! I’m so sorry! You just made a mistake, that’s all- I made stupid mistakes all the time. Punishing you for that- how could I?” Zeref pulled Freddie into a hug.

“Hey, I’ll go get some cookies. We can talk.” Zeref smiled as he went downstairs to get the cookies.

Freddie went into the bathroom to fix her hair, looking around for a brush she opened the drawer to not find a brush. But something she’s been searching for her entire life.
