“I'm gonna head to the bank, Grills,” the girl called out. “Can you close up by your lonesome?”

The fire elemental nodded, and she grinned sharply, pulling her hair out of the high pony she usually kept it in. It fell in soft waves over her pointed ears. Walking out of the bar and into the back, she grabbed her bag and jacket and exited through the back entrance. Glancing both ways, she crossed the street to the opposite side walk and started walking in the direction of the bank. Faint calls behind her rang sharp in her ears.

“Hey, is that a human?!”

Flicking her eyes back, she pulled out her switchblade and held it close to her side. She didn't want to think about her magic. Running sounded behind her, and she swiveled.

“Listen, bu-” her eyes widened. In front of her stood a short skeleton wearing a suit.

He smiled at her, but it seemed harsh and cruel. “Heya, trash. Wrong side of town?”

Backing up, her mouth suddenly way too dry, she growled.

“Dirty way to play, numbskull,” she spat, “looking like a dead girl's mate.”

His eyes narrowed, pupils pointed at her knife. He took another step closer, and then she was running, dodging the waves of bones that flew up from the packed snow on the road. Suddenly there was another skeleton, walls of bones on either side.

She came to a stop.

“I work at Grillby’s, I'm not a human! He'll vouch for me, please!” Her eyes fell and then narrowed. “Don't make me hurt you.”

“That's rich,” piped up Sans, but no, it wasn't her Sans, it was this world’s. “considering it's two against one, you're a human, and Paps here is about to grab you.”

Eyes wide, she attempted to run, but strong arms darted under hers and locked her to the skeleton’s chest. She let out a scream as Sans summoned a bone and clubbed her across the head, sending her head lolling into blackness.
