Shri Ram got acquainted with Balaa Atibalaa vidya, teaching of Raj-Dharma, several divine astras and newer arts of warfare and also found a worthy life partner in form of Devi Sita.

Janak wasted no time to send a messanger to Dashrath to inform him about the marriage and seek his permission as well as presence at the wedding.

Dashrath agreed happily and reached the city of Mithila with his three wives and sons Bharat and Shatrughan along with the royal entourage.

The day they reached, the vanshavali of both the families of bride and groom were checked as per the traditions.

Shri Ram's Vanshavali started with Vivasvaan followed by Manu, Ikshvaku, Kukshi, Vikukshi, Baan, Anaranya, Prithu, Trishanku, Dhundhumara, Yuvaanashva, Maandhaat, Susandhi, Dhruvasandhi, Bharat, Asit, Sagar, Asamanja, Anshuman, Dilip, Bhagirath, Kakushtha, Raghu, Pravruddh, Shankhanad, Sudarshan, Agnivarna, Sheeghrag, Maru, Prashrushuk, Amabarish, Nahush, Yayati, Naabhaag, Aja and Dashrath.

While Devi Sita's vanshavali started with Nimi followed by Mithi, Udaayasu, Nandivardhan, Mahaveer, Brihadrath, Devraat, Suketu, Sudhriti, Drishtaketu, Yuvaanashva, Haryashva, Maru, Prateendhak, Keertirath, Devmeedh, Vibudh, Maheedrak, Kirtiraat, Mahaaromaa, Svarnaroma, Hrasvaroma and Janak (and his brother Kushadhwaj).

After this, the best dates for the marriage to take place started to be discussed.

"Aaj Maagh Nakshatra hai, aur 3 din baat Uttar Phalguni, jo vivah hetu atyant Shubh hai." Janak said.

"Uchit sujhaav hai Rajan. Vivah Uttar Phalguni Nakshatra mei hi hoga." Dashrath agreed.

"Aur yadi aapki aagya ho toh ek prastaav hai." Janak said.

"Kaisa prastaav Rajan ?" Dashrath asked.

"Maharaj, Veerya Shulka ke karan Sita ka vivah toh Ram se ho hi raha hai. Meri ek dusri putri bhi hai Urmila, jiske liye Lakshman se yogya var koi nahi. Aur mera chhota bhai jo Saankaashya pe raaj karta hai, uski bhi sushil 2 putriya hai, Mandavi aur Shrutkirti. Yadi unn dono ka vivah aapke putra Bharat aur Shatrughan se ho jaaye toh sabke saubhagya khul jaaye. Yadi aapko yeh swikarya hai Maharaj, toh inn sabka vivah ek saath Uttar Phalguni Nakshatra mei hi ho jaaye." Janak offered.

Dashrath looked at his queens Kaushalya, Kaikeyi and Sumitra, all of them nodded in agreement to the auspicious proposal.

"Maharaj Janak, aapne toh mujhe mere putro ke vivah ke chinta se ek kshan mei mukt kar diya." Dashrath agreed happily.

"Toh humare kul mei Gou-daan aur Til-daan ki prathayo ka palan kiya jata hai. Yadi aapki swikirti ho toh kal se hi yeh sabhi rasme shuru karwa de.

"प्रतिग्रहो दातृवश श्श्रृतमेतन्मया पुरा ।
यथा वक्ष्यसि धर्मज्ञ तत्करिष्यामहे वयम् ।" Dashrath said. (The taker is obliged to the giver, I have heard this wisdom before. Hence I will do as you say)
