A- it's alright , I already had lunch at home. Who is it?

' patient's name is Arjun '

Annika stopped then and there before moving inside her cabinet for the nurse who was following her back almost bumped with her from behind .

' sorry doctor '

A- but , arjun's appointment was scheduled for next week right?

' yes , but I guess he wants to talk '

She stood there and thought for some more time before gathering herself together. With everything happening around , she was in no mood to talk with him this day ,still,she has to ,professionalism.

A- fine , you please carry on , thanks.

' ok Doctor '

Arjun looked intimidated as soon as he knew she was inside . Annika felt that , she didn't seem to much care of it though. She just walked in casually and took her seat opposite to him . Checking on a few files which were kept on the table , she gradually started the conversation.

A- how are you feeling now ?

Ar- hmm? yeah , I'm fine . Annika , I wanted

A- your appointment was fixed earlier , it's on next Wednesday right ? What are you doing here today?

Arjun looked dejected when she spoke indifferently .

Ar- annika please don't do this , don't ignore me . I

Once again she started before he could finish and this time , she seemed annoyed .

A- look arjun , I'm worried for you yes ofcourse, you're sick and I'm worried . I can help you only as a doctor , nothing less nothing more . Don't expect anything else from me .

He seemed much sad and disappointed with her words . His voice broke .

Ar- I thought you were my friend .

A- friend right? Ok . If you really think you're my good friend, can you be a little honest arjun ?

He watched her dubiously while she looked highly in demand of something.

A- my personal life is in very much trouble because of you , so I wanted to know how . Tell me friend, what happened that day , what did you tell shivaay ? Why did you beat you ?

Arjun was taken aback on hearing her questions, she kept staring at him keenly .

A- be honest arjun , tell me !

Ar- ok yes , I said I love you . I said he only got you by luck because if I were here then , we both would have been together now . Whatever I said is true !

Annika was already surrounded with shock and guilt by the time he finished shouting . She was clearly able to sense Shivaay's feelings then . This must have been hard for him , and soon she remembered his different behaviour the next morning , on Charu's haldi function. Things got really bad this time, she sat holding her forehead .

A- please go .

Ar- annika

A- I can't, just please. Sorry , for me you're just my patient. Please understand that .

She emphasized this clearly but he wasn't compromised ,he was going to touch her hand which lied on the table but she immediately pulled it back and stood up .

A- don't you understand , just leave arjun !

Annika screamed in frustration showing the door to him , arjun felt extremely disheartened. He stood up and walked quietly .

A- one minute .

He stopped by the door and turned .

A- sorry arjun , I didn't mean to hurt you but please understand this , I don't love shivaay because we're married and he's a husband no ,I love him because ...I don't know I just do . Even if I wasn't married and even if you had approached me earlier, I don't think we...because I know for sure I wouldn't have had that feeling for you . So erase all these thoughts and concentrate on your life first , your treatment , that's more important right now .

She stressed her words to make him realize and he just had that faint smile covering his lips throughout . He left without saying anything.

Annika decided to go for it again , to call him .She grabbed the mobile from her bag and remained bewildered soon . Four calls from pinky aunty , maybe it was him !! She then remembered handing over her mobile to the child .

A- aaryan ki bache...!

She kept mumbling this and tried to dial for him but unfortunately her mobile shut down without charge.

A- urghh !!

A roar kind of squeal escaped from her throat, her mind was really frustrated right now but she wasn't ready to accept defeat yet . Gripping the mobile tight within her palm she ran downstairs towards the reception .

A- ankita

' yes doctor ?'

A- I want to make a call , now .

'Sorry mam the lines are busy , and we're waiting for an important call from the medical council , so ...'

A- kya yaar ....hamesha tho free rehthi hai and when I'm in an emergency aise react kar rahi ho jaise ham India Pakistan border mei military force chala rahe hain .

The receptionist chuckled hearing this .

' sorry about that mam, anything else you need ?'

A- please find me a charger, for this .

Shaking the mobile infornt of her face , annika demanded some immediate attention .

' that I can help you with, one sec '

Annika sighed out a breath of relief when she finally got the charger. She plugged it in then and there , deciding to wait .

The screen flashed on and came alive , she dialled for pinky at once . It rang thrice and soon someone picked up .

S- hello

A- hello shi

Before she could say anything, she already missed the mobile which fell on the floor when someone just bumped with her in hurry .

A- god damn !

S- hello , hello annika ?

The line was dead for him .

The person picked her mobile and passed it to her .

A- please don't run inside the hos

Her big brown eyes remained wide open without making a blink while she saw the person who stood before. Instant goosebumps flourished to capture every inch of her skin . She couldn't speak after witnessing something like this .

' I know , sorry '

Saying this , he walked past her towards the next block while annika stood there rooted to the ground , like a statue. She just couldn't believe her own eyes , immediately she remembered her conversation with the nurse .

' someone like him maybe '

Annika gulped again and again remembering these words , like him is different but exactly the same ? It wasn't him she knew that for sure, but did she just come across a man who looks exactly the same as shivaay ...? Is this some magic miracle going on here , annika was stunned.

She then followed the same direction as his which led her to the other block . Shock , confusion, curiosity, wonder , she experienced everything all the once so she really wanted to know who he is .

Annika stopped behind a pillar when she found him talking to some elder person , outside the scan room .

His father maybe , she thought .

And soon blasted the next thundestroke for her , her eyes became small and shrunk when she witnessed Shakthi along with the lookalike .

Shocking ,it was . Pretty bad thoughts remained hitting her mind , she diverted herself by looking everywhere but them , she couldn't do that for long because within few minutes someone else was there to get her attention . It was a lady this time who joined the duo .

Annika almost cringed and grew suspicious when she saw the lady holding shakthi's hand rightfully while speaking. Her mind was flooded with stupid thoughts. She didn't know what to do , something struck her head soon. Immediately she called a nurse who was passing by .

A- excuse me , I need your help .

' sure Doctor '

A- give me your number . Go stand near the scan room and I'll call you .

The nurse looked completely clueless .

' what ...are you , why ?'

A- please , just go stand near the door . Please I have only 10 % charge ,soon .

The nurse watched her weirdly but did approve and shared her number . Annika found no tower symbol showing up in her mobile , she immediately cracked it open to remove and fix the SIM card once .

Here shivaay had been trying for her all the while , a system voice saying the same phrase 'out of coverage' is what he could hear everytime and then when he got the line , engaged . Amazing, he was fed up .

A- yes yes there

The nurse acted upon annika's instructions and positioned herself near the trio .

' what now Doctor ? I have other work , atleast tell me what's going on ?'

A- please be quiet .

' why are you so much into rushing us out of here ? Let's wait for the scan report ,what if she has a fracture ?'

Sh - didn't you find any other hospital for treatment? My daughter- in- law works here !

He seemed tensed while answering the lookalike.

Annika was listening to everything keenly .

' see mom , he never cares. You realize this atleast now ? He cares only about his family'

Sh - beta please don't talk like that ,
you and your mother , even you both are my family.

Assuring this he tried to hold his shoulder but the younger man moved back and seemed angry. Then the lady spoke.

' aap bura math maniyega , I'll talk to him. He , he's just worried for me . We shouldn't have left Delhi, pata nahi jab se yahan aaye ham , something or the other keeps happening '

Soon the three went into the Doctor's room after being called . Annika hung up and thanked the nurse . The very next minute she heard her mobile ringing , pinky it showed. She quickly silenced it and dropped it in her pocket .

She couldn't talk to him now , after witnessing something disastrous. After hearing their conversation she felt really defeated for guessing it right before . Her uncle has an extra marital affair , another family .

Annika cursed herself for making it downstairs , she should've stayed in her room . She was just done with all these first time exclusive encounters, why is it only her everytime!

All she wanted was a happy life with shivaay, but after witnessing this , her peace was completely lost and she didn't like it at all . For once she just wanted to think of her , her love , her life.

Having other people's problems in her mind has made her weak enough , atleast for now she didn't mind turning blind eyes against this because her own life has things to be looked after certainly .Sorting and worrying for others is all enough , well , her job itself is just it but still people around her bring more trouble and she didn't want to let it get into her once again.

Let uncle do whatever he wants , she didn't mind ,she told herself . And immediately Shivaay's face came infront of her eyes , how will he even be able to take something like this.

He'll break , she cried .

Next day

M - I've been waiting since morning, clock deka ab ? 11 it is .

C - sorry maa, mein nahi ye stupid ,he stopped on the way for buying gifts . That too for whom ...? for you all .

She blamed hitting his elbow once .

Ad- aunty we're coming home as a couple like first time after the wedding, tho banta haina .

M - charu , I told you not to talk like that. Show some respect now atleast . He's your husband .

Ad - chodiye na aunty, I like her habit.

He winked at her saying this , charu looked away and blushed .

M - hmm... Adi , young dikthi hoon par itna bi young nahi hoon na, ki ye sab pehnoon .

Meena spoke with a mushy smile on her face after seeing some T shirts inside the gift box . Adi almost broke out in laughter after seeing her shy reaction while charu smacked her own head .

C- maa , it's for annika . She kept on ranting ki I tore all her clothes right isliye I bought these for her. We have planned to visit shivaay and annika this evening .

Meena bit her lips and kept the clothes back , embarrassed.

Ad- aunty please , who said you can't wear these in this age? Madhuri kabi bi ban sakthi hai aap ,you have it you aah !

He completed with a shout as charu pinched his lap hard .

M- hey one second , actually annika is here . She's been staying with us since your wedding.

As soon as he heard this Adi jumped up and marched towards the room shouting her name .

Ad - Annika .. your lovely jiju is here with bahut sara gifts for you ! annika...

He kept singing her name .

C- ab kahane hai vo ?

M - terrace pe , wait I'll get her .

C - nahi maa , we'll go see her . Akele kya kar rahi hai vo ...?

Adi signalled her to be very quiet with the steps , annika was found staring at the other side . Charu agreed and walked slowly making hardly any noise . When both were almost there , Adi positioned himself perfectly and palmed her eyes from behind. Annika jerked back a bit in shock.

But within seconds he pulled his hands back on sensing something. She quickly wiped her face and turned towards them .

C- kya yaar , itni jaldi kyun chod diya tumne ?

A- finally you guys are here ! Charu kuch laya ki nahi, sweets ? Maa has been distributing all the sweet boxes to everyone in the neighborhood ,muje kuch bacha nahi hai ghar pe . Shaadi ke ghar matlab , there should be no demand for snacks and savories atleast for a month par yahan tho week hi bahut weak hai .

C - hmm , as if . With you in house , week weak hi hoga . Mitai monster jo ho tum.

A- shut up , you know nothing. Adi dekna ...

She stopped on seeing him staring at his empty hands , he then slowly looked up at her .

Ad - what happened ?

A- yeah , there's no sweets at home and I'm really hungry .Come with me , ham dono

Ad - annika , what happened!

He held her elbow right away when she tried to move .

C- Adi , what is it?

Ad- that she has to tell us , why were you crying annika ?

A- mein ?... I am craving sweets par I'm not a kid to sit and cry for

Ad - annika please , stop pretending.

C - ro rahi thi tum ?

It was like a disease , when people tend to ask about it , it just happens . Annika has a control over her tears but when someone keeps pushing an impulse against it , she becomes helpless . Especially when situation comes into case where she actually does want to cry , it becomes uncontrollable .

Tears ran down her eyes .

A- idiots , can't you guys keep quiet for sometime. Ahh ...I can't stop it !

She wiped and wiped .

C - I'll ask shivaay .

Annika grabbed her mobile when she was about to dial for him.

A- don't act too smart .

C - so something has happened between you two .

A- mind your own business charu .

Ad - leave her , mujse tho baath kar sakthi ho na .

He asked with a pleading look on his face and annika couldn't help but smile between her tears . She immediately clung to hug him tightly and wept pressing her face on his shoulder. Adi rubbed her back slowly for charu just rolled her eyes watching it .

C- I'm sure she would've done something.

Ad - charu please .

Charu shook her head in disbelief and stood back leaning on the wall .

A- everything started with Arjun .

Ad - who is this arjun now ?

A- my patient...my classmate , but I didn't know it before . How can I know everything, that's not

Ad- annika begin and end , we can't understand riddles .

S- she has even called me yesterday, par pata nahi what happened then ...I've been trying since afternoon. And there's no response. Do all girls do this mom ?

P- shivaay I told you already ,

S- mom , she isn't staying at moon or something. She can atleast pick and say , I'm busy shivaay I'll call you back . I don't know mom , I haven't thought of this yet but I'm scared ki I would start thinking she's doing all this deliberately, to avoid me .

P- she can never do that .

A- I was in such a shock ki I didn't even realize what was happening . Cancer, he told .

C - see I told you, she's the one .

A- stop it charu , teek hai I agree I acted without hearing him out but he could've waited right ?

C- think annika ,he beat the hell out of arjun because he's crazy about you .

P- she can never even think of avoiding you because she's crazy about you .

S- then why isn't she here already , I obeyed you, you said give her time she'll understand.

P - it will happen . She started believing in you shivaay ,that's the cause for all this .

A- don't talk like I don't care about him charu ,pyaar karthi hoon mein bi usse .

Ad - you shouldn't have said that annika. If I saw some other man hugging and kissing charu , I'm sure mein bi aise hi react kartha .

A- mein bi insaan hi hoon na Adi . I was shocked, angry, and on the other side shivaay attacked my patient who's certainly fighting for his life, I didn't even realize what I was saying .

Annika was immediately irked by Charu's sarcastic smile.

A- charu if you're going to do this, leave!

C - you remember annika , shivaay always says I keep using you. And I think you just did the same with shivaay , you used him.

Annika was disturbed on hearing this , Adi signalled charu to stop .

P- she believes she can rely on you, for anything ,for everything. And I don't think it's her fault.

Shivaay listened to her quietly.

C- nahi Adi, I'm not accusing her or something. It's pretty natural for all of us to rely on someone . Well , it's crucial to have someone like that in life . And in my case I have annika , I depend on her pretty much for everything because since childhood she has made me believe it's ok to do that. Annika will help me out of this . Sadly for her , I couldn't reciprocate it , neither my parents could . And somewhere in between all this , she found shivaay very pleasing. Like a long time seeking came to an end when she got Shivaay's extreme care and love . She wanted to depend , to show how she can be when vulnerable, angry , she showed him that knowing he would hold .

P- you're responsiblity is to hold shivaay, hold for her . Someone has to stay calm , be that someone . Forgive , if not for your sake , do it for annika .

C- annika , you started to believe he would forgive you anytime ,for anything . That's because he made you believe in him. We all know how calm and clear you can act at situations . And still if you had behaved that way to shivaay alone ,you should realize how big this is .You learned to be selfish because of him annika .

P- if you think she's acting selfish , you should become the opposite , selfless . There's nothing wrong in doing that for your loved ones because one day they'll realize .

C- this is the impact his love holds in you . Selfless to selfish annika is because shivaay happened to you . You've become a self seeker sister .

Adi kept looking at charu as if some volcanic lava just flourished out of her mouth where as annika who stood beside him, remained frozen .

Whatever charu said is true , she knew . She did what she did because she believed her shivaay would tolerate all this for her, but the thing is she herself didn't actually realize she was being it . Annika felt so guilty right now .

She wanted to remember what would've ran in her mind then , during their fight . Her feelings , her anger , she was thinking of a list of her's alone . That itself shouted how much wrong she has done with him.

A while ago she was hesitant to face him , thinking of his thoughtless act , the fight, his ignorance and now a very much bigger than anything kind of thing - Shakthi's affair . But not anymore, she realized how big idiot she has been all along .

Leaving everything behind , she yearned for him now . Howmuchever huge and dangerous it is , problems can wait . she decided.

Being blindly dependent is being deeply in love 💘

Well most of you felt that annika was taking advantage of shivaay, and yes it did seem like that but it wasn't intentional. She didn't realize herself . HDMQ shows chapters of a selfless girl who loves everyone. But being selfish is a human act . Annika is not some saint, so this was to show where and how she becomes that. To have someone where she can show her extremes . But still, it's crucial that she realizes this because if not then ,Shivaay's gonna get hurt continuously . Let's see what happens further .

Trying to bring some twists and turns in the plot , will reveal much more in upcoming chapters . Just keep me posted if you all like it or not .
