Steven watched anxiously from the sidelines as Pearl and Sapphire cried desperately into each other's arms. Oh no, he thought, but not irritably. He look at Amethyst, plonked on Steven's bed,  who was no longer fiddling with the controls but staring at the sobbing duo on the floor.
"Uh," she began awkwardly. "Why don't you two take all this into the Temple..?" She signed in annoyance. "Steven and I are going to play some video games." Steven rushed forward and rested against Amethyst's shoulder.
"No no, it's okay!" he cried worriedly, lifting up his hand assuredly. "Don't worry Sapphire."
He looked more relaxed as he continued, coming up with a plan. "I'm going to go out and find Ruby."
"What?" Amethyst concluded rudely. Steven slid off of his bed.
"'I'll be right back with her in no time." And he left.
Amethyst sat upon Steven's bed, awkwardly staring at the loud sobbing gems in front of her. She came to a decision pretty quick. She looked at the door to leave.
"Yo Steven, wait up," she called out, hopping off the bed during a particularly painful bawl erupting from Pearl. "I'm coming too."

"I don't think Ruby used the warp pad," Steven concluded when Amethyst got closer to him. "She said she was running away, not warping away, and she's usually pretty literal." He clenched his fist in determination. "We just need to figure out which direction she ran in."
"So, how do we do that?"
"Uh.." Steven looked around. "Let's try putting ourselves in Ruby's shoes." Steven saw Amethyst clutch her chin in thought, before she suddenly began to glow and shift her shape into a likeness of Ruby. She laughed mischievously.
"Now what?" She droned.
"Amethyst," Steven pouted, hands on hips, "be serious." Amethyst scowled. "She could only have gone in one of two directions," Steven continued. "Either into town-" Amethyst's head followed Steven's finger as he pointed. "-or into the ocean."
Amethyst scratched her chin thoughtfully. "Hmmm..." she muttered.

Steven released his shiny pink bubble, dispirited, as Amethyst squeezed her wet hair. He scanned his options.
"Okay, so she wasn't underwater..." he wandered the beach a bit cluelessly. "Ruby?!" he called aloud. Amethyst repeated him, but in a much more bored manner. She stopped at a large white seashell that lay in the sand. She lifted the seashell up with her foot and peered into it.
"Ruby?" Amethyst said again. Steven walked towards her.
"I really don't think she's hiding under a seashell."
Amethyst gasped. An idea. "Maybe Ruby shapeshifted really small!" She raised an eyebrow. "You never know..."
Before Steven could comment, Amethyst's form began to look misshapen, she glowed again, but this time, shrunk even smaller. Soon, Steven was looking at a gem with tiny arms, legs and head sticking out of a hexagonal cut amethyst. Tiny amethyst climbed easily into the shell.

"What a spacious house!" Amethyst praised. She gasped. "I'll keep it." Steven picked up the shell with Amethyst in it.
"Amethyst," began Steven, "you know I love these great goofs but..." He sighed. "...I'm worried about Ruby. Can you stop messing around and turn back to normal?"
"You're the boss," replied Amethyst, and suddenly the shell snapped and she fell on top of Steven.
Steven sighed. "We need to think. Where would Ruby go if she ran away?"
He thought about it.

"Is there anyone in town that she knows?"
